Chapter 248: ~ 248

Chapter 248

~Octavia~

The heavy, soundproof glass doors of the elite Kiara’s atelier shut out the relentless, flashing chaos of Manhattan’s media storm, burying us in a world of clothing luxury.

To escape the suffocating headlines, Franklin had bought out the entire building for the evening. There were no flashing cameras here, no invasive questions from paparazzi, and no nervous glances from people.

Franklin sat on a plush, charcoal velvet armchair in the center of the private dressing suite. His long legs were casually crossed, his tailored trousers immaculate, and his dark midnight-blue vest hugged his broad chest perfectly.

I stepped out onto the low circular podium, smoothing down the fabric of the custom gown the designer had spent the last hour adjusting.

It was an exquisite, deep emerald-green silk column dress, draping effortlessly over my frame. The fabric caught the light with every breath I took, but what made it truly breathtaking was how beautifully it cradled the unmistakable, soft curve of my growing baby bump.

Franklin froze. The tumbler of scotch paused halfway to his lips, his dark, mesmerizing eyes locking onto me with a possessive, breathtaking hunger that made my pulse instantly quicken.

He set the glass down on the side table. His eyes never leaving mine. He stood up, his towering, imposing frame filling the elegant room as he walked toward the podium. He didn’t even reach for his cane; his focus was entirely, entirely on me.

"You are absolutely breathtaking, Octavia," he murmured, his deep baritone rough with an emotion so raw it made my throat tighten.

He stepped onto the podium, his large, warm hands gently sliding around my waist from behind. He pulled my back flush against his broad chest, his chin resting softly on my shoulder. I leaned back into his overwhelming warmth, a long, sigh of pure relief escaping my lips as his fingers slowly splayed over the front of the emerald silk, cradling our unborn child with a tenderness that belonged only to us.

In this quiet, hidden sanctuary, the frantic stock market dips, and Bella’s toxic media campaign completely ceased to exist.

"I love the family we are building, sweetheart," Franklin whispered against the sensitive skin of my neck, his hot breath sending a delicious, comforting shiver straight down my spine. "Every single day, seeing you like this... it reminds me exactly what I am fighting for. You and our baby are my entire world. Nothing else matters."

I turned slightly in his embrace, wrapping my arms securely around his neck, looking deep into the dark, protective depths of his gaze. "We are building an empire for them, Franklin. And no one is strong enough to tear down what we’ve made."

He smiled, a beautiful, genuine expression that reached his eyes, before leaning down to capture my lips in a deep, lingering kiss. It tasted like scotch, warmth, and a promise. For a few perfect minutes, we completely forgot about the storm outside.

Eventually, the buzz of my phone broke us apart. It was Franklin’s assistant, sending over the finalized VIP guest list and seating charts for the annual Flemington Winter Gala, which was now exactly three days away.

Wrapped securely in Franklin’s arms on the velvet sofa, we pulled up the digital documents. The board was still panicking, but our positions were locked.

"Look at the corporate proxy passes," I murmured, my finger tracing a specific, encrypted ticket that had bypassed the standard public relations screening. "Miranda pulled a few strings with her luxury wellness conglomerate. She slipped an unlisted, high-tier entry pass into the system."

Franklin’s jaw instantly tightened, the fierce, cold CEO returning in a flash. His dark eyes narrowed onto the digital screen. "She’s routing it to Bella. Bella thinks she’s going to use our own annual gala to make a public scene and force a corporate settlement." He reached for his phone, his voice dropping into a lethal hiss. "I’m calling security now. I want her blacklisted from the entire grid. She won’t even make it past the lobby."

"No, Franklin. Wait," I said, as I caught his hand, stopping him.

Franklin looked down at me, his brow furrowing with a protective concern. "Octavia, she is unhinged. She shouldn’t be anywhere near you, especially in a room full of international press."

"Let her think she has forced our hand, my love," I purred, leaning close to kiss his locked jawline. "If we ban her, she plays the victim to the media from the sidewalk. But if she walks into our house, thinking she has won... she climbs straight to the highest point of her own lies. Let her celebrate for three more days. Let her feel smug. Because the moment she steps onto that ballroom floor, the trap snaps shut, and her public execution will be absolute."

Franklin stared at me for a beat, a dark, incredibly proud chuckle escaping his chest as he shook his head in sheer awe. "You are terrifyingly brilliant, Mrs. Flemington. Approved. Let the invitation be hand-delivered."

Later that afternoon, the blissful peace of the day vanished as I stepped into the high-pressure environment of the executive suite at JeffTech. We were holding a private, closed-door board meeting for a massive new technological project, and the atmosphere in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife.

The directors and investors were entirely on their toes, their eyes shifting nervously every time someone’s phone vibrated, clearly distracted by the brewing Flemington family scandal. Miranda sat across the long glass table, looking immaculate in a sharp, tailored cream blazer, her expression an unreadable, icy mask of high-society poise.

But I didn’t let any of it affect me. Throughout the grueling two-hour presentation, I maintained total, absolute control of the room. I answered every financial query with lethal precision, delivered my projections flawlessly, and treated the murmurs of the scandal with a cold, aristocratic indifference that completely silenced the gossiping board members.

When the meeting finally adjourned, the tension in the room dissipated into frantic whispers as the directors quickly filed out to check their stock portfolios.

Feeling the exhaustion of the long day settling into my bones, I excused myself to use the private executive restroom down the secluded, VIP hallway. The corridor was entirely empty.

As I walked down the hall, the sharp, furious sound of a muffled, hushed voice suddenly cut through the silence.

I paused, my heels making no sound against the thick plush rug. The noise was coming from a partially open door of a private holding conference room just ahead.

"You are moving too fast, you foolish girl!"

It was Miranda. Her usual calm, composure was completely gone, replaced by a dangerous, trembling rage that made the hairs on the back of my neck instantly stand up.

I stepped back into the deep shadows of the hallway, my breath catching in my throat as I listened intently through the crack in the door.

"The Flemingtons aren’t amateurs!" Miranda hissed into her phone, her footsteps pacing frantically across the hardwood floor inside. "Franklin has his legal teams locked down, and Octavia didn’t even flinch with everything! If you ruin my leverage with your hysterical public stunts before the gala, I will cut your offshore funding completely!"

A heavy, suffocating silence filled my lungs as Miranda let out a sharp, venomous breath, her next words delivered with a terrifying, cold finality that shattered everything I thought I knew about this war.

"I don’t care that you’re my stepsister, Bella, you will play this hand exactly how I dictate, or I will stand back and let Octavia destroy you myself."

I froze in the dim shadows of the hallway, my blood running completely cold as the words echoed through my mind like a physical blow.

Stepsister.

The entire puzzle, the backing that a trashy, desperate girl like Bella could never have secured on her own instantly clicked.

This wasn’t just a bitter, obsessed ex-girlfriend trying to crawl her way back into Franklin’s life. This was an organized, deeply rooted family syndicate running a targeted execution against my husband’s legacy.

Oh my freaking God!
