Chapter 246: ~ 246

Chapter 246

~Octavia~

The penthouse was silent. I could see the distant, tiny flashes of news vans parked blocks away, and my personal tablet was still buzzing, I did not even bother to read anything.

But inside our home, the atmosphere was thick with the scent of rich cedarwood and vanilla, a new scented candle Olga had gotten.

I had already showered, washing away the lingering, toxic energy of Bella’s presence from my skin. Now, dressed in a soft, silk emerald-green robe that draped loosely over my growing bump, I stood by the glass, holding a mug of warm chamomile tea. I wasn’t afraid. I wasn’t even anxious.

Franklin stepped into the penthouse, his tall, imposing frame framed by the soft hallway lights. He looked utterly exhausted, the sharp, rigid line of his jaw tight with the residual tension of the day’s war. His dark midnight-blue tie was slightly loosened. The fierce, lethal aura he carried as the CEO of the Flemington Group was still vibrating around him like a shield.

But the very second his dark eyes found me standing by the fire, his entire demeanor shifted. The cold, impenetrable armor melted away, replaced by a raw, profound vulnerability that he only ever showed to me.

I set my mug down on the side table and walked toward him, my bare feet making no sound against the hardwood. I didn’t say a word. I wrapped my arms securely around his neck.

Franklin let out a low, ragged breath, a sound of pure, unadulterated relief. His powerful arms immediately wrapped around my waist, pulling me so flush against his chest that I could feel the frantic, heavy thudding of his heart beneath his tailored vest. He buried his face into the crook of my neck, inhaling deeply, drawing in my scent as if it were the only oxygen that could sustain him after a day in hell.

"Octavia," he murmured against my skin, his deep baritone rough, laced with a fierce, possessive desperation. His large hands pressed firmly into the small of my back, holding me so tightly it was as if he were trying to merge our physical bodies into one. "Tell me you’re okay. Tell me she didn’t stress you."

"I am perfectly fine, my love," I whispered, my fingers running gently through the thick, dark hair at the back of his neck. I pulled back just enough to look into his eyes, my heart swelling with a warmth so intense it felt entirely separate from the cold war we were fighting. "Bella didn’t touch me. In fact, I believe she left my office questioning her own sanity."

Franklin’s eyes darkened with an intense, wicked pride, but the shadows of worry still lingered in his gaze. He reached up, his thumb gently tracing the soft contour of my cheekbone, his touch incredibly tender, a stark contrast to the man who had threatened to burn down empires just an hour ago.

"I went to the hospital," he said softly, his voice cracking slightly with a heavy emotion he rarely allowed himself to feel. He led me over to the velvet sofa by the fire, pulling me down onto his lap, refusing to let go of me for even a fraction of a second. I curled against him, resting my head on his broad shoulder as his fingers intertwined with mine over my stomach. "Your father... he saw the tabloids, Octavia. He couldn’t bear to see you suffer through another public humiliation."

I closed my eyes, a soft, emotional ache tugging at my chest at the thought of my father’s protective love.

"And what did you tell him, Franklin?" I asked quietly, tracing the lines of his palm with my fingertips.

Franklin tilted my chin up, forcing me to look into the absolute, terrifying depth of his devotion. The sheer amount of love in his eyes was blinding, a brilliant, consuming fire that made everything else outside this penthouse completely irrelevant.

"I swore a sacred vow to him, Octavia," Franklin whispered, his lips brushing against mine, his breath hot and intoxicating. "I told him that you are my wife, my soul, and the mother of my true legacy. I told him that you aren’t a victim to be shielded, you are the executioner. But I also promised him that I would personally destroy anyone who even attempts to breathe in your direction. If anyone tries to cause you a single drop of pain, I will burn their entire world to ashes."

A breathless, deeply moved gasp escaped my lips. The raw, primal intensity of his love didn’t frighten me; it intoxicated me. It grounded me in a way nothing else could.

"I am not afraid of the fire, Franklin," I murmured, leaning in to press my lips against his. "Not as long as I am standing in it with you."

The kiss began with a gentle, burning reverence, a silent confirmation of the ironclad covenant between us. But as Franklin’s hands slid up my thighs, parting the silk of my robe to touch the bare, warm skin beneath, the kiss deepened into something raw, passionate, and utterly consuming.

He tasted like scotch, fire, and a fierce, possessive hunger that belonged entirely to me. His tongue tangled with mine, claiming me over and over again in the quiet room, erasing the noise of the media, the threat of Bella, and the stress of the world until there was nothing left but the heat of our skin and the rhythm of our breathing.

When he finally pulled away, his breathing was heavy, his forehead resting against mine as his hand gently caressed the slight, beautiful curve of my abdomen.

"We are a team, Franklin," I whispered, my voice thick with a soft, loving calm. "Behind closed doors, we are one. Bella thinks she is breaking us apart, but she has only succeeded in locking us closer together."

Franklin smiled, a beautiful, genuine sound escaping his chest as he kissed the tip of my nose. "You are terrifyingly brilliant, Mrs. Flemington."

"I learned from the best," I purred, shifting slightly on his lap to reach for my laptop on the coffee table.

We opened the screen, the bright glow illuminating our faces as the secure data feed from Detective Tate flashed into view.

On the screen, a series of red blinking lights highlighted a sequence of foreign bank accounts.

"Look," I murmured, pointing to the financial ledger. "William just initiated the first major wire transfer from his logistics shell company into the offshore account Bella provided. He thinks the media blast has completely paralyzed you, and he’s moving in to fund the final phase of her takeover strategy."

Franklin’s arm tightened around my waist. The predatory CEO had returned, but his heart was entirely at peace.

"They’re walking straight into the grand extortion trap," Franklin stated, his deep voice smooth and utterly confident. "Tate is logging the transaction in real-time. By tomorrow morning, the financial paper trail will legally tie William’s fraud directly to Bella’s media extortion campaign."

"Let them transfer every single dollar," I said, leaning back against his chest, feeling the absolute safety of his embrace. "Let Bella celebrate her false victory for one more night. Let her dream about a crown that will never belong to her."

Franklin shut the laptop with a definitive snap, tossing it onto the opposite side of the sofa. He gathered me back into his arms, lifting me effortlessly as he stood up from the couch, carrying me toward our master bedroom, away from the digital screens and the corporate numbers.

"No more business tonight, sweetheart," he whispered against my ear, his lips trailing down my neck, sparking a delicious, warm shiver down my spine. "Tonight, there is only you, me, and the future we are building."

As he laid me down onto the soft silk sheets of our bed, pulling the covers over us and holding me close against his heart, I looked out at the distant city lights. The storm was still raging outside, but inside our sanctuary, wrapped in the arms of the man who would burn the world for me, I had never felt more completely, utterly invincible.
