Chapter 244

~Octavia~

The human mind is a fascinating thing when it snaps.

I sat back comfortably in my chair, silently studying the precise moment Bella’s carefully constructed reality shattered into a thousand jagged pieces. The blood completely drained from her face. Her eyes, which had been manic and wide with triumphant malice just a second ago, were now darting erratically around my office as if searching for a hidden exit from her own nightmare.

"Y-You’re lying," she stammered, her voice dropping an octave, losing its sharp edge as she gripped the edge of my desk to steady her trembling hands. "You’re just trying to save face. You didn’t know. Franklin wouldn’t... he wouldn’t tell you something like this!... he doesn’t even know. You’re bluffing!"

A soft, genuine laugh escaped my lips. I adjusted my posture, resting my elbows on the desk and steepling my fingers.

How pathetic, my internal monologue mused. She genuinely believed she was the only intelligent woman in this building.

"Bella, please," I murmured, my voice dripping with an effortless, calm condescension. "Do you truly think my husband operates on your level? Franklin doesn’t hide things from me, least of all a desperate, transparent attempt at extortion from his unhinged ex-fiancée. We are a team. We have been monitoring your little countdown since the moment your fixer, Rodrigo, pinged our servers from Europe."

Bella’s teeth clenched so hard I could hear the friction. She tried to swallow, desperately trying to claw back any semblance of her lost dignity, her posture stiffening as she forced a wild, defiant sneer onto her lips.

"It doesn’t matter if you know!" she shrieked, her voice turning shrill as she gestured wildly toward the sweeping glass windows, where the bright flashes of the paparazzi outside were still lighting up the afternoon sky. "It changes nothing! The media already has the files! The public has the paternity reports! The Flemington stock is crashing right now, and your precious grandfather has the documents in his hands! The old man values legacy over everything, Octavia! He will ruin you both for trying to bury a Flemington heir! The world believes me!"

I didn’t answer right away. I let her words hang in the air, completely unbothered by the media circus raging on the streets below. My grandfather-in-law was a man of absolute integrity; he didn’t care about the desperate, fabricated traps of a parasite. He cared about our family’s true peace.

Slowly, without breaking eye contact with her, I reached down and unlocked the top drawer of my desk.

"You talk quite a lot about what the world believes, Bella," I said softly.

I reached inside, my fingers sliding over the crisp, glossy texture of the photo paper I had printed out just an hour after my lunch break. I pulled them out, holding them facedown, watching the sudden, sharp spike of anxiety hit Bella’s eyes. Then, with a casual, flick of my wrist, I tossed the printed copies onto the desk, right next to her fake prenatal reports.

They slid across the dark wood, stopping perfectly face-up under the bright desk lamp.

The silence that followed was absolute.

Bella’s breath hitched violently. She looked down at the paper, and for the second time in less than five minutes, she froze completely.

The two photographs were clean. The first shot perfectly framed the executive boardroom table from yesterday, with Bella bent flat over the table, her eyes closed in ecstatic pleasure. The second shot was a wider angle, capturing the unmistakable, sharp profile of William holding her hips, aggressively locking her down against the table.

I told you they would be useful, my internal monologue whispered with an icy, predatory satisfaction. I felt absolutely zero pity for the woman standing across from me. None. She had come into my sanctuary intending to completely destroy my life, my marriage, and my peace while I was already dealing with my father’s fragile health. She deserved every single ounce of the psychological torture I was about to inflict on her.

"What... what is this?" Bella whispered, her voice cracking completely as she stared at her own face on the glossy paper.

"I believe the technical term is irrefutable evidence of corporate misconduct," I replied, leaning forward, my gaze locking onto her like a vice. "I took those yesterday afternoon right after my lunch break. You see, I went to set up the boardroom early, and I stumbled upon your little... corporate merger. You and William truly have no shame, do you?"

Bella’s chest heaved as she processed the pictures. Her mind was frantically scrambling, working double-time to build a defense wall. She shook her head violently, a crazed, crackly laugh escaping her throat as she tried to force a look of regained confidence back onto her face.

"This proves nothing!" she hissed, her fingers clawing at the air as she pointed a trembling finger at the photos. "So what if I’m sleeping with William? That doesn’t change the timeline, Octavia! The baby inside my womb is Franklin’s! It was conceived around the exact same time he and I were together before he threw me away for you! A couple of photos of me with another man doesn’t change a DNA test! The truth will come out, and when it does, Franklin will still be the father!"

I let out a slow, deeply amused sigh, shaking my head at her sheer delusion.

"Oh, Bella. You really are a special kind of stupid," I said, my voice completely untroubled. "Go ahead and cling to that lie if it helps you sleep at night. The truth will come out, and quite frankly, I am entirely certain that child doesn’t have a single drop of Flemington blood in its veins. But even if you want to play the game, look at what you’re holding in your hands."

I tapped the glossy photograph of her and William with the tip of my silver pen.

"Even if you scream to the high heavens that the child is Franklin’s, I now have irrefutable, undeniable proof of exactly who you have been sleeping with, even during the exact same period you claim you were exclusively with my husband. You are a fraud, Bella. You are a blackmailer who is actively sleeping with a hostile corporate competitor while trying to extort an empire."

Bella opened her mouth to screech another frantic defense, but before a single sound could leave her throat, I slammed my hand flat against the desk.

The sharp crack echoed through the room like a gunshot, instantly silencing her.

I stood up slowly, my movements deliberate, smooth, and terrifyingly calm. I leaned across the desk, closing the physical distance between us until we were mere inches apart. I looked deep into her frantic, bloodshot eyes, stripping away every ounce of my usual polite corporate demeanor. When I spoke, I lowered my voice to a sharp, quiet whisper, a tone filled with so much dark, concentrated venom that it physically made her flinch backward.

"Listen to me very carefully, you pathetic little snake," I breathed, my words cutting through the air like a razor blade. "You thought you could come into my house, threaten my family, and play a high-stakes game with my husband’s legacy? Did you honestly believe I was just some fragile, helpless bystander you could easily push out of the way?"

Bella’s lower lip trembled, her throat bobbing as she tried to pull away, but my gaze held her completely paralyzed.

"Don’t you ever forget who I am," I whispered, the darkness in my eyes completely consuming her. "I am not the woman you can manipulate. I am not the target of your cheap, transactional schemes. I am the wife of Franklin Flemington, and in this game of chess, I am always, always one step higher than you."

I held her gaze for one final, suffocating second, watching the absolute terror take root in her soul.

"Now," I said, my voice instantly snapping back into a cold, polite corporate tone as I stood up straight and smoothed down my blazer. "Get the hell out of my office before I have security drag you through the lobby in front of the very paparazzi you invited."
