Chapter 1138: Chapter 595: Extra—Alice Robinson’s Heart-Wrenching Cries Outside the Operating Room

He seemed to have been contemplating for an eternity.

Unbeknownst to him, she was holding her breath the entire time, her heart racing.

Finally, he bent down, extended his hand, and quite gentlemanly uttered in English, "May I?"

She smiled brightly, though her eyes were brimming with tears, and placed her hand in his palm.

Beneath the hazy yellow crystal fringe lamp, he embraced her, her hand resting on his shoulder, as they quietly danced, gazing deeply at each other.

She didn’t realize she was so helpless...

As he held her and they wandered in the music, her tears suddenly became uncontrollable, falling drop by drop.

Thankfully, she leaned against his shoulder just in time...

He felt her trembling body and softly asked, "What’s wrong?"

She shook her head, not daring to look up at him, her vision blurred by tears.

"Alice..."

"I’m fine... just hold me... hold me like this and dance with me until the end of the song, okay?" she choked out.

His hand gently rested on her frail spine, his voice hoarse, "Okay."

The music quietly faded away...

With her eyes closed, she leaned against his embrace...

As the song ended, he gently caressed her damp cheeks, "Tell me, why are you crying?"

Her eyes were red and swollen, with remnants of tears at the corner, "I heard you talking with Director Turner on the phone yesterday, that you’re preparing for surgery soon."

"I was just about to tell you."

She looked at him, her vision blurred.

He stroked her delicate, fair face, speaking softly, "The recent pain isn’t even alleviated by painkillers... as a doctor, I know this means the situation has worsened."

Alice bit her lip, "I know..."

He gazed into her inflamed eyes, gently wiping away the tear stains from the corners, his voice raspy, "Will you stay by my side?"

Alice rushed into his arms, nodding vigorously.

He kissed her forehead, holding her tight, "No matter what the final outcome is... promise me, live well."

Alice shook her head forcefully, tears spilling from her eyes, "You’ll be okay, brother... you definitely will be okay..."

His expression was solemn, "You must promise me, live well."

Chester’s surgery time had already been decided, it’s tomorrow.

When Lawyer Xin walked out of the study, he nodded at Alice.

Alice politely gave Lawyer Xin a slight smile, then walked into the study.

Chester’s condition wasn’t great, leaning against the leather chair back, his complexion was somewhat poor.

"Brother..."

Upon hearing her voice, he straightened his body.

Alice walked behind him, gently massaging his temples, "Is it hurting again?"

He pulled her hand, gently caressing, "I’m fine."

Alice cupped his face, "And you say you’re fine, your complexion looks so bad."

He forced a smile, "Probably the painkillers are expired."

Even at this moment, he still had the mood to joke.

"Alright, stop frowning... aren’t you making something for me to eat?"

Alice confessed, "The fried rice got burnt and it’s already cold."

"Don’t you know fried rice tastes best when cold?"

Chester pulled Alice’s hand and walked out of the study.

In the dining room, Alice said sheepishly, "I’ve been learning from Aunt Lily for a few days, but I still can’t get it right, all burnt."

"That’s not burnt, the color’s just right."

He picked up a spoonful and ate it, exaggeratedly praised, "Better than Aunt Lily’s cooking."

She had just tasted it, knew it was burnt and not delicious, and now seeing him enjoying it so much, she felt a twinge of distress.

During these over a month together, he had really treated her well.

If it hadn’t been for that inadvertent discovery in the diary the other day, she might really have believed the days ahead were real...

But his kindness was never the layer she thought it was.

She stood and came to his side, picking up the plate, "Don’t eat, brother... it’s bad, let me make another one for you."

"No need, I said the taste is fine."

He put down the plate and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

She slowly sat down on the chair, watched him intently.

Noticing her gaze, he held up the spoon, looked at her, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

She smiled softly, "Because you’re good-looking." Because I know this might be the last day I look at you like this in my life.

"Mischievous."

"By the way, brother, what did Lawyer Xin come to discuss with you?" she asked curiously.

Chester put down the spoon, seriously said, "The outcome of tomorrow’s surgery is unknown, I want to arrange things for the future."
