Chapter 287: Luis Arrived At Selvas City!
Luis secretly arrived in Selvas City along with Jack, bringing four trusted B-Rank awakeners from the Suarez Guild; Lard, Barry, Den, and Mark.
They weren’t the strongest members of the guild, but each of them was talented, experienced, and more than capable of fulfilling their responsibilities. Besides, most of the operation wouldn’t require them to take action personally.
The majority of the work would be left to the Night Hawkers. That was exactly what Luis was paying them for.
The meeting place had already been decided beforehand.
Mirano Oceana Hotel.
More specifically, a private balcony room connected to the restaurant inside the hotel. It overlooked the city while offering enough privacy for them to speak freely without worrying about unnecessary attention.
Only after arriving did Luis discover that Cobert was already seated inside the room. Beside him sat a thick-eyebrowed man with an ordinary appearance, quietly enjoying a cup of tea while waiting.
"Yo, Cobert, you’re already here. Sorry for making you wait."
Luis greeted him cheerfully, showing his usual enthusiasm.
Instead of the listless response he had expected, Cobert let out a cold snort. His sharp eyes, accompanied by those familiar heavy dark circles, stared directly at Luis with obvious resentment.
Luis immediately sensed that something wasn’t right.
"What’s wrong? Don’t tell me you suddenly want to increase the mission fee. Let me tell you first, the deal is already settled. Even if I have money, you can’t just take advantage of me because of our brotherhood."
*Bang!*
Cobert slammed his palm against the table before standing up.
"Fuck! Who the heck cares about that!"
The sudden outburst immediately caused the atmosphere inside the room to tighten.
Jack’s eyes sharpened. Almost instinctively, his hand had already reached for the sword inside his mana bracelet.
Across the table, Grizz calmly picked up the knife and fork lying beside his plate, his steady gaze never leaving Jack.
Neither of them made another move.
Yet just this simple action was enough for both sides to sense each other’s aura.
Jack’s eyes narrowed slightly as his pupils contracted.
He couldn’t help feeling surprised.
The man opposite him...
Actually gave him a sense of danger?
How was that possible?!
Jack himself was already an A-Rank awakener.
Did that mean the man sitting opposite him was also at the same level?
Another King Rank?
Why had he never heard of such a person before?
Didn’t the intelligence report state that the Night Hawkers only had a handful of low-rank awakeners, with B-Rank being their strongest force?
Then where exactly had this King Rank popped out from?
’Damn those people in the intelligence department. What are they even doing?’
A flood of thoughts crossed Jack’s mind within that single moment.
When he first heard that the young master intended to entrust such an important operation to an underground organization hiding in the shadows, he had felt Luis was placing far too much trust in his academy friend.
Fortunately, he had insisted on accompanying him. No matter what happened later, he would serve as the final layer of insurance.
Who would have thought these rats hiding in the shadows had concealed themselves so deeply?
Jack’s gaze quietly shifted toward Cobert from the corner of his eye.
As the leader of such an organization... This young man definitely wasn’t simple.
Meanwhile, Luis paid no attention to the silent confrontation had just taken place beside him.
Instead, he was still puzzled by Cobert’s unusual reaction.
’What’s wrong with this guy? Haven’t I teased him plenty of times before? He’d usually just be fuming quietly without saying anything. Why is he so angry this time when I did nothing?’
Without showing the slightest urgency, Luis calmly pulled out a chair and sat down.
"If you’ve got something to say, then just say it. Can’t we negotiate peacefully? Why let a little money affect our friendship?"
Cobert narrowed his eyes.
"Why do you keep thinking I want to increase the mission fee?"
Luis blinked, "Hmm... don’t you?"
"I don’t!"
"Then why are you angry?" Luis spread his hands helplessly.
"If you don’t tell me, how would I know? I’m not a psychic." He shrugged before casually adding,
"Nor am I an expert in mind-reading techniques like Professor Hina."
As he spoke, he picked up the knife and fork before cutting himself a piece of steak, and taking a bite.
A slight frown appeared on his face.
"It’s already cold."
Tiny sparks flickered between his fingers.
The current quietly flowed through the fork before gently heating the steak without damaging it in the slightest.
Luis took another bite. His eyes brightened. "Hmm... now it’s better."
Cobert simply stared at him in silence. After several seconds, he finally asked,
"Who booked the hotel room for us?"
Luis tilted his head in confusion.
"One of my subordinates. I asked them to reserve the best available room for you. Is there a problem?"
"...Your subordinate..."
Cobert closed his eyes for a moment before letting out a long sigh.
"Never mind."
The anger on his face disappeared as quickly as it had appeared.
He slumped back into his chair, returning to his usual listless self.
With a casual wave of his hand, he signaled Grizz to relax.
Grizz quietly placed the knife and fork back onto the table.
Seeing that, Jack also released the hilt of his sword.
The tense atmosphere instantly faded.
Luis remained completely confused.
He silently took another bite of steak before asking through telepathy.
{Lily, what’s wrong with him?}
{I don’t know the exact reason, Masted. But judging from your conversation, if I had to guess... it should be related to the room that was booked.}
{The room? What’s special about it?}
{It’s the Presidential Honeymoon Love Suite.}
*Cough!*
Luis nearly choked on the steak.
He hurriedly grabbed the glass of water while pounding his chest with his fist.
"Young Master, are you alright?"
"*Cough*... I’m fine."
Luis waved his hand while trying to suppress himself from laughing out loud. The corners of his lips twitched uncontrollably.
