Chapter 190: Wrapped In Gold, Rotten Within

You can’t polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter.

That’s what Zane intended to do.

They were in Seb’s. The shop was for clothes and everyone wanted to know why.

But Hena took the initiative and asked the gutterborn about it.

Zane let out a sigh and moved closer to her ears.

Then in a low voice and hot breath, he revealed his purpose.

"We are here to become gilded trash."

He said it with a smile but Hena’s reaction wasn’t what he expected.

"What even is that? And you are too close."

Zane shifted a little from her.

"You were too close too."

"I did not do that."

"You did it a few seconds ago."

"I was asking for the mission. That doesn’t count."

Zane opened his mouth but closed it.

He stopped talking.

He clenched his fist and let them go the next second.

He saw no point.

Hena used her own logic and more than that, he felt a little sad.

Of course she would not like me being too close. Why did I embarrass myself?

He shook his head.

"Hello?" Hena spoke. "You still there?"

Zane sighed.

Get it together. What are you even mad for?

He shook his head and looked at Hena.

"Just do what I say. No need to be a detective."

He straight out ordered her what to do.

Hena raised her brows but then she shrugged.

"Sure."

She stopped talking.

Is he sad about the ’too close’ bit? I never said I had problems with it though.

Hena had only said Zane was too close to her, she didn’t make any kinds of faces or push him away.

Also, she had been close with many boys while she fought them and destroyed them. If anything, touch and closeness didn’t bother her at all from anyone.

Nevertheless, she let Zane be and the shopkeeper came back from the back of the shop as well.

But his face wasn’t visible.

And no one questioned it as well.

Because the man simply did his job.

Zane had asked for clothes and the man brought them.

On both his hands, his head, and shoulder, he came back with many pairs of clothes and all of them were shining. Just like Zane wanted and had seen rich people wear.

The man placed all the clothes on the counter and he had brought all types of clothes.

Even for the girl Hena.

Zane looked at his team.

"Pick whatever you want. We are buying all of them. We will wear them here as well."

"What?"

Everyone exclaimed. Including the shopkeeper.

"Why are you shouting?" Zane asked Seb.

Seb laughed awkwardly. "It’s just... why though? Who are you? Are you running away from something?"

Tesla’s heart skipped a beat.

Xavier was ready to fight.

Draxus pulled Hena behind.

Jammy was busy checking clothes.

And Zane, he glared at the shopkeeper.

"Do you think we are runaways? You are lucky Leon isn’t with us." He said.

Seb’s eyes widened.

"Sir Leon? Leon Bronzers?"

"Who else?" Zane scoffed.

"You know sir Leon?" Seb asked, leaning towards Zane.

"Know? He is my friend. Where do you think I am going right now?"

Seb gulped. "Are you going to his house?"

Zane laughed. "Exactly. We have spent all day looking for that filth and now we have to report to Leon of our findings. But we can’t go to him with such dirty clothes. But if you don’t want to sell then I will just go to him like this and tell him everything you did."

Zane turned towards the exit and just as he took one step...

"No. Wait. I am sorry. You can buy whatever you want. I will even give you a discount. Don’t rat me out, sir. I have kids at home."

Seb bowed his head in front of Zane.

If not for the counter between him and Zane, Seb would have touched his forehead on the ground for Zane.

"Don’t bow. Fine. I forgive you. We will buy from here. And no discount. That would be a shame on the Bronzers’ name." Zane said with utmost conviction.

Seb nodded like a chicken.

"Certainly. Pick whatever you like. And if I may ask, since you are so worried about the Bronzers’ name, you must be a Scepter under their family, right, sir?"

"Why, yes. Of course." Zane lied perfectly.

But Hena’s brows twitch.

She knew the next question.

"Which family do you belong to, sir?" Seb asked.

Zane didn’t get flustered. "The Bronzers family. I just said that."

"No. I mean your family. The family which is Scepter of the Bronzers. Your family name."

"Oh. That.."

Shit.

Zane had no idea what to say.

He could not take any name. If the shopkeeper happened to know the families, he would instantly figure out Zane’s made up name.

"Simmers." Hena said.

"Yes. The Simmers family." Zane doubled down on it, watching Seb’s expressions carefully.

"Oh. The Simmers. Yes. I know them." Seb replied, laughing.

Zane heaved a sigh of relief while glancing at Hena.

He gave her a gratitude filled nod and Hena shook her head.

"Enough questions. Shut up now." Zane scolded Seb.

"Yes, sir." Seb obliged.

He went silent and Zane picked his clothes.

"Where should I change?" He asked.

The shopkeeper pointed to his right.

Zane looked and there were only a horde of clothes in a good height.

He expected a room but the horde of clothes worked well enough for privacy.

He picked a set of clothes and went there.

In ten seconds, he came out from behind the wall of clothes and was welcomed with wide eyes.

He wore a black shirt again but this time the material was shining and decorations with golden color had been done on it too.

His pants were black too but they were of different quality as well.

A golden chain hung from his pocket with one end tied to the area where belts were supposed to go.

Zane walked to the counter, not caring about the looks he received from everyone else.

After Zane, Jammy went to dress and the man came out with the same attire but with different clothes.

Tesla and Draxus did the same and now only Hena was left.

Zane rolled his eyes and grabbed a dress for the girl.

He tossed it to her.

"Wear this."

And to keep up his act of a Scepter who was also rich, he continued saying:

"You might be able to look good in this at least."
