Chapter 188: Even The Wind Cannot Know
An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come.
Zane, however, had the idea of invasion. And it’s time has come.
He had created two groups of people and both of them had their designated work.
So Draxus asked about their work and Zane in the most non-chalant way possible, revealed their job.
"We will invade the church where I first met Horum."
"What did you say?" Draxus asked again.
"You heard me." Zane won’t repeat himself.
"Are you out of your mind? We can’t just invade a church. Especially when it’s not the time of prayer."
Draxus was against the idea and Zane looked at Hena.
"Your bodyguard is a coward."
"That’s-"
Draxus paused.
He kicked the floor.
Punched the wall.
And then said:
"Fine. Let’s invade it."
"... Sure."
I will just pretend I didn’t see him doing all that.
"Is everyone okay with it?" Zane asked others.
Xavier patted his chest. "I will invade the Crowns if you ask me. A church is nothing."
"Let’s do it. It is already evening. The last prayer of the day is around the corner anyway." Jammy agreed.
Hena shrugged. "I am in."
"As long as I don’t die." Tesla accepted in his own way.
"What about me, brother?" Milo asked.
She was still on the table.
But she hopped onto Zane’s back.
"I am sorry, Milo. I can’t take you with me. It’s dangerous."
Zane put her back down on the floor.
"But I don’t want to be alone." Milo said, her voice already turned meek.
Zane came to her eye level.
"You will stay with the uncle and aunty residing above. I will be back soon. If I roam with you there is a chance bad people will recognize me. I will get hurt or worse you will get hurt. I don’t want that. So please try to understand."
Milo took a heavy breath.
"Okay. I don’t want you to get hurt."
Zane smiled.
"And don’t leave the house under any circumstances. Unless it’s me, do not leave the house. Even if anyone calls you in my voice, do not answer. Say nothing. I will say the codeword first. If the person calling you does not say the codeword it means it isn’t me.
So what I am saying is, if someone called you in my voice or in anyone else’s voice do not answer. Say nothing. You will only answer when you hear the codeword. Got it?"
"Did he just explain the same thing in different ways?" Xavier whispered to Tesla.
"He did." Tesla nodded.
"That’s just his protectiveness for his sister." Hena chimed in.
"I can hear all of you."
"My bad." Tesla shut his mouth.
"Do you understand?" Zane asked Milo once more.
Milo laughed. "You think so much, brother. I will be fine. I have learned my lesson."
Zane pulled her cheeks.
"You are such a smart girl."
Milo laughed harder.
"The same codeword as before, right? The silly mi-"
"Don’t say it." Zane stopped her. His voice stern. "No one should hear about it. It’s a secret. Got it? Share it with no one."
"Okay. If you say so." Milo agreed.
"Come on, it’s just us here. I want to know the codeword too." Tesla said.
Zane glanced at him.
"No. I don’t want even the wind to hear it. If it leaked, anyone can use it to get to Milo. I will die before revealing it."
Tesla gulped.
"Alright sorry. Why are you treating me so roughly though? I appointed you as my salesman, not the other way around."
"Oh. Right. You did give me a job. Fine. I quit. I am not in need for money anymore."
"What? At least let me fire you. I am the boss here."
"Shut up."
"Why? At least give me a written resignation. And I also gave you an advance, remember?"
"Here."
Zane tossed some coins to Tesla.
Tesla caught them.
"About resignation," Zane added. "Where do you want it?"
"Huh?" Tesla didn’t get it.
"Do you want it on your face or on your groin?"
"Ah. I see. It’s a threat. I don’t want it. Live happily ever after quitting."
Zane nodded and focused on Milo again.
"Tesla uncle is funny." Milo said.
Zane nodded.
"Forget about him. Promise me you will not do anything stupid. Don’t use too much strength. Don’t run. Do nothing. Talk to uncle and aunty, stay with them, tell them whatever you need. Just don’t... get in trouble."
"I will not. Don’t worry so much. Let’s just go."
Zane slowly nodded.
He stood up and turned to Xavier.
"Please tell your uncle and aunty to look after her. She can’t work too much. Don’t make her do work. Treat her like she is their daughter."
"Yes. That’s a given. Even if I don’t tell them, they will still take good care of her." Xavier said.
"No. Please tell them. They have to know."
"Yes. Yes. Calm down. Nothing will happen to her."
Xavier patted Zane’s shoulder.
"Let’s go."
Milo held Zane’s finger and walked towards the exit.
But Xavier ran first and left the basement before anyone else.
No one minded it.
Zane and Milo reached the stairs and everyone else was behind them.
Then, they began climbing.
Slowly.
Easy.
Turtle pace.
"No wonder he left early." Draxus remarked.
Hena gave him a glare and he shut his mouth.
Jammy said nothing and walked behind everyone. In the last.
Soon, Hena also started to lose her patience.
She held herself back just for Milo’s sake.
Tesla said nothing as he didn’t mind the slow pace.
They were crossing two steps in twelve seconds.
Hena’s fist clenched.
"Alright. That’s enoug-"
The stairs ended.
Zane and Milo left the basement.
Hena’s anger couldn’t find an outlet but after coming out, her anger vanished anyway.
"Wear your masks." Zane said.
They did.
The same masks they wore when they brought weapons.
"Hey, Milo. Come here. Uncle aunty would love to have you." Xavier shouted from upstairs, outside the bedroom.
Zane clenched his jaw.
"You come down here. She will not climb all those stairs. Take her to them."
"Right."
Xavier jumped from the stairs to the hall and held Milo.
He then climbed the stairs again, opened the bedroom, went inside, came out without Milo, jumped down again and joined the group.
"So where to?" He asked while wearing his mask.
Everyone snapped out of his performance through his voice. Including Zane.
"Yes. Right. Since we are invading the church without considering the time, we have to do something extraordinary."
Everyone turned serious.
Something extraordinary meant dangerous.
They were ready for it.
Zane eyed them all and in his heavy grim voice, he said:
"We will go buy some clothes."
"Motherfuc—"
