Chapter 181: The Man Who Sold The Devil
If the enemy is hunting you, give thanks. It means there is still something inside of you some would have to kill.
But right now Zane was hunting his enemy.
And the one who was being hunted didn’t even consider Zane as his enemy. He considered Zane as nothing for the matter.
The enemy in question was the Flamekeeper Horum who had the relic with him.
It would be hard to find him but Zane had already made up his mind.
He stretched his neck left and right and gave one last order.
"Let’s hunt the Priest."
Everyone nodded.
All of them climbed the stairs to leave the basement.
"Wait." Zane said.
They stopped.
"Come back." He said.
They obliged.
Everyone was again in front of Zane.
"Don’t go out all at once. Leave a ten minute gap between each other. So many people coming out of one house will be suspicious."
They nodded.
They keep nodding but don’t understand a thing.
Zane sighed and wished for patience to handle all of them.
"How will we talk to you if we find something?" One man asked.
"We have no choice but to choose a common location to exchange news. We can’t send letters because no one will know where others are. What a pain."
"We need something like this." Jammy said, tossing a crystal towards Zane.
Zane caught it and nodded.
"Yes. If only we had this, we could communicate. The Enforcers also have these things. But unfortunately, we don’t have it- Wait- the hell? How do you have it? Where did you get this? Why are you only showing it now?"
Jammy scratched his head. "I forgot."
"You forgot? You have something that I have only seen in the hands of people bigger than me and you forgot about it?"
Jammy held one of his ears.
"I am sorry, alright. And I did give it to you now, didn’t I? So I don’t see what you are so angry about."
Zane paused.
He stared at the crystal and now that he thought about it, Jammy did give it before anything major could happen.
"Alright. Fine. How did you find it?" Zane asked.
Jammy smiled. "It belonged to Vehran."
Zane’s brows rose.
"The Warden’s? You stole his crystal?"
"Well, it fell around the wall when I pushed him. And since he is dead, I took it."
"Er... Not a fan of disturbing but... who is Vehran?" Tesla asked.
Everyone else had the same question.
Zane had filled them in on the most part but he hadn’t gone to details.
Nevertheless, he shared the details about Vehran to them.
He told them he was the warden who asked for a bribe and he was the first one to see Zane. He was also the one who called all the Wardens and made them go after him.
It didn’t take long for Zane to share the details as he finally focused on Jammy again.
"So Vehran is dead?" Zane asked.
Jammy nodded. "Yes."
"You killed him? Was that lightning because of you?"
Jammy gave another nod. "Yes. That lightning was because of me and he died because of it. He also wanted to go after you but since he was the one responsible for the chaos, I had to kill him for my mental peace."
He can really summon lightning. That’s a handy skill. How is he a gutterborn if he has such a Skill?
Gutterborns don’t awaken high tier skills because they have low Soul Resonance. Their lifestyle didn’t allow them to have higher tiers unlike the Halocrats and the other rich people who got everything they needed since they were born.
At least, that’s what people were taught.
So there must be a huge drawback for Jammy to use his skill. If not, then Jammy couldn’t be a gutterborn.
"So you can summon lightning, huh. How does it work? What is the drawback?" Draxus asked.
Well done.
Zane wanted to ask the same question but he was hesitating. Because he wouldn’t like someone asking about his Skills as well.
But Xavier removed that fear from Zane and now he would get the answer without even asking for it himself.
Jammy took a puff of his cigar and eyed Draxus.
Draxus and Zane waited patiently.
For Zane, Jammy’s answer would reveal if Jammy had somehow gotten an overpowered skill with no drawbacks or it had drawbacks that would restrict its continuous uses.
Unlike Zane though, Draxus just wanted to know about it curiously. He had no special reason.
Jammy parted his lips and Zane gulped.
Here it comes.
"My Skill’s weakness or let’s just say my only weakness is..."
Jammy paused and with utmost seriousness, he revealed the weakness while staring at Draxus.
"Your mom."
"..."
"I will kill you." Draxus jumped on to Jammy.
Everyone laughed at the answer but Zane frowned.
"How is Draxus’ mom the weakness of your Skill?"
They stopped fighting.
Both of them turned their heads at Zane with eyes that ridiculed him.
"Oh. It was a joke. I get it."
Zane laughed as well and it was the fakest laugh.
"I am not even angry anymore." Draxus let go of Jammy’s collar.
He stood behind Hena again and Jammy was never really angry anyway. He was past that age now.
Everything turned to normal and Zane ignited the topic again.
"You don’t have to tell us the conditions of your Skill if you don’t want to. Just tell me this, you took Vehran’s crystal after killing him?"
"Yes. If he was alive, he wouldn’t have let me take it anyway."
Zane nodded. "Why did you take it?"
"For easy money." Jammy said.
"Money? You were planning to sell the crystal?"
"No. It was something else."
"What?"
Jammy sighed. "The Communication crystals were given to each Wardens by the Bronzers family. Do you know why?"
"Yes. To share my location as soon as they see me."
"And in return, they were supposed to get rewards." Jammy said.
Zane frowned.
"What are you getting at—Don’t tell me."
The janitor smiled.
"Yes. I leaked your information."
