Chapter 166: The Weapon Chose Me
Where there is loyalty, weapons are of no use.
Xavier was hundred percent loyal to Zane. That wasn’t a surprise for him.
But Jammy was ninety nine percent loyal to him.
The janitor came out of nowhere in this equation. Zane only met him yesterday.
Either the man was quick to trust or he simply knew Zane beforehand.
Nevertheless, seeing such loyalty, it made him wonder:
He doesn’t want to marry me, right?
Then he laughed at his own thoughts.
Jokes apart, I chose the right person as my Ashbearer. But he also uses an Alias. What’s wrong with sharing the real name?
He decided to ask about it later as he looked away from Jammy and darted his eyes at his third Ashbearer.
Hena Myreth.
The forgotten Crown.
The traitor.
Her loyalty to Zane was eighty nine percent and considering how he talked to her, eighty nine percent was a good number.
He would have not made her his Ashbearer but now that he had decided to trust her it was better to keep her closer.
Her being under him was safer if she ever tried to betray Zane.
I better keep checking her loyalty.
[ You made her an Ashbearer to keep an eye on her? ]
Yes. Who knows when she decides to act like the Halocrats. It’s better to be safe.
[ At least you are using your mind now. ]
I always look out for ways I can die and survive from it. It’s a habit now.
The system didn’t reply and Zane would have stayed silent as well now that the shop was coming closer.
But then another question came to his mind.
Do you know anything about Zarkovian? The whisper I told you about.
He waited for an answer but the system replied with nothing.
So you know but won’t tell me. I see.
The system only chose silence when it didn’t want Zane to know about something.
[ I also choose silence when I have nothing to say. I don’t like to lie and make up things. ]
Zane frowned.
So you don’t know about Zarkovian?
Silence.
You know about Zarkovian?
Silence.
Zane bit his lip.
I will deal with you later.
They stopped walking.
All five of them were in front of Fang Carts.
The door was made of glass and even from outside Zane could see weapons inside.
Zane took a deep breath and acting like a regular customer, he pushed open the door.
The bell tied to the door tinkered as heads moved towards Zane’s group.
There were customers already present inside the shop and a bald muscular man sat behind the counter.
He greeted them with a smile and gestured for them to enter.
He didn’t leave the counter as he didn’t need to.
The weapons were on display all over the shop.
Rows of shelves decorated the shop with the arsenal and many weapons were hung to the ceiling of the shop.
The smell of iron danced around mixed with a fragrance Zane didn’t know but liked.
Zane was in the front and the others followed behind.
He went to the counter and the bald man smiled.
"What are you looking for, sir?"
"I will find it myself." Zane replied, his tone cold.
The bald man went silent and Zane went to the first row of the shelves.
Xavier and Jammy also busied themselves.
Hena and Draxus casually strolled around as they already had a sword with themselves.
What should I get? Any ideas?
Zane had shelves on both his sides.
Knives, daggers, swords, halberds, hammers, scythes, chained swords, and many other weapons Zane didn’t know the names of.
[ Something that is easier to carry and effective. Now that money isn’t the issue. ]
Right. But I will buy two.
[ Why? ]
You already know.
[ Oh. ]
The system went silent after that and Zane surfed around.
He touched some weapons and he didn’t go for fancy stuff. The cool stuff.
He wanted something that could give him a chance of fighting. If anything, the weapon should kill on first strike.
He moved to the next row of the shelves.
Swords were in huge quantity and then spears and then Maces, Warhammers, crossbows, flails.
All of this is too generic.
Zane clicked his tongue and came out of the row he was looking around.
He roamed his eyes around the shop once more and the last row caught his gaze.
No customers were there.
They acted as if it didn’t exist.
Didn’t know rows would be exposed to discrimination too.
He laughed and went right there.
As he entered, all heads flunked towards him but Zane was accustomed to receiving gazes. It didn’t bother him. If Milo was with him then it would have been a different story.
But apart from the other customers, Xavier and the others also watched Zane.
Hena looked at Draxus.
Draxus sighed.
"Let him do what he wants. Who are we to stop someone?"
Hena glared at him.
Draxus raised his hands.
"It’s not my fault he didn’t know about it."
Hena opened her mouth but Xavier chimed in.
"I’ll tell him. Don’t fight."
Draxus mouthed thank you to Xavier silently and Hena shrugged.
Xavier went to that last row and found Zane looking around.
"That’s not the best place to find stuff." He said.
Zane turned around, facing Xavier.
"Why?"
"Why?" Xavier seemed shocked. "Spiders have created their colonies here. Dust has made its bed on the goods. This row contains discarded weapons, genius."
"... I see now."
"Now you see? Didn’t you find it weird the lack of customers here?"
"I thought they were simply ignoring it."
"They were ignoring for a reason."
"Yes. Now I know. I thought they were ignoring it just like they ignore me. Without any concrete reason."
Xavier sighed.
"You have too much sympathy for discarded things, Zane. Stop looking at yourself in them."
Zane smiled.
He began to understand me now.
"Let’s go now." Xavier said.
Zane nodded.
"Yes. My work is done here."
Xavier frowned and before he could ask something, Zane bent to pick up something.
"I found my weapon."
