Chapter 162: The Void Gave Him Back

It’s no good going on living in the ashes of a dead happiness.

But for Zane, the ash was the last hope.

He was in the unknown and the only thing around him other than darkness was a flame of ash.

If he wanted to at least know what would happen, if not his exit, he had to interact with the ash.

Therefore, he touched it.

He grabbed the ash in his fist.

Whiteness flashed in front of his eyes.

Even though he didn’t want to, his eyes went shut on their own.

The very next second though, noises entered his ears.

He shot open his eyes and he was welcomed with...

"Fuck! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"

A shout.

But the shout did nothing to Zane as he was in front of someone he didn’t ever think was possible.

"What the hell, man?"

It was Xavier.

He was in front of Xavier.

Xavier was in front of him.

Seeing the man, Zane broke into a smile.

He touched Xavier’s shoulder and his smile widened.

It was real.

He wasn’t dreaming.

He escaped the void.

He looked around and he was inside Xavier’s house.

The blue plastic cover was still around it.

"Answer me!" Xavier shouted.

Zane shook his head and came back to the moment.

"Yes. I am her—"

[ Ding! ]

The system returned as well.

And not alone.

It brought something with it.

[ Convergence Increased By 20% ]

[ Vessel Capacity Increased By 20% ]

[ All Stats Increased By 20% ]

[ Information Unlocked For The Key Of Oblivion! ]

His brows shot up.

He read the notifications and he didn’t know what changed.

He just went inside darkness and saw some images.

"You are acting weird. Is everything alright?" Draxus asked.

He was also there. So was Hena.

All eyes stared at Zane and the man sighed.

"Right. So how did I appear right in front of you? Is that it?" Zane asked.

"Yes."

Zane nodded.

He tried to make an answer.

At most, he knew how he really ended up in front of Xavier.

He touched that ash flame.

Xavier was his Ashbearer and that was the only thing that made sense.

If that wasn’t right then there was no way to explain how he ended up in front of Xavier when he was kilometers away from him in the Blue Rose street.

Nevertheless, he couldn’t tell all of this to Xavier so he used his brain and came up with something.

"I simply used one of my Skills."

That was what he came up with.

Xavier frowned.

"You have teleportation skill? You have awakened three Gleam tier skills if I remember right."

"Yes."

"And one of those skills is teleportation?"

"Not really."

Xavier held his hair.

"What are you talking about?"

I would like to know that too.

Zane inhaled and this time, he spoke slowly.

"Since the skills I have are Gleam tier, they aren’t too strong. One Skill allows me to sense danger. One Skill allows my body to move on its own and survive. And the third skill is teleportation. But I can’t use it on my own. It activates itself randomly. It works on its own. I have no power over it. Today, it worked."

That was the best Zane could think of.

Only the teleportation part was a lie.

Everyone heard him and they nodded.

Xavier squinted his eyes but then he smiled.

"Whatever. It worked at the right time. You survived that Warden."

Zane returned the smile.

He looked around.

Only Draxus, Xavier, and Hena were there.

They were standing outside the basement but Zane felt the loss of one person.

"Where is Jammy?" He asked.

"He was with you, right?" Hena said.

Zane shook his head.

"After you left, the Warden removed my scarf, saw my face, recognized me and then called the other wardens and revealed my identity to them as well. So all the Wardens in the area had gathered. They trapped me and Jammy. But since the wardens wanted only me, I made them run after me and Jammy was free to leave."

Xavier’s eyes widened.

"All that happened? Even after your perfect plan?"

Zane opened his mouth but when Xavier mentioned the plan, he remembered something.

He clenched his jaw.

"What kind of noise did you make in front of that warden?"

"... I was doing the same thing as you."

"No. You were overacting. Who cries like that? I was able to act because I am used to begging people. Not you. You almost got us caught."

Xavier lowered his head.

Zane rubbed his brows and caught Draxus laughing.

"What?" He asked.

Draxus stopped laughing.

"It’s just.. I remembered the sound he made. It was Auuu!"

"Pfftt.."

Hena snickered.

Xavier did the same.

Zane shook his head and ended up laughing as well.

"What’s so funny?"

Another voice chimed in.

A new one.

Zane turned around and his heart finally found peace.

"You are here." He said.

Jammy looked up and his eyes bulged.

"You? You arrived earlier than me? How?"

Zane sighed.

"Long story."

"I am not interested then."

Jammy refused to hear the story and joined everyone else.

Zane didn’t mind as the janitor acted his usual self.

But he did remember what he saw outside Hena’s mansion.

"I saw lightning falling over you. Are you alright?" Zane asked.

Brows shot up.

Everyone looked at Jammy.

"Yeah. It was nothing. My lighter wasn’t working so I used lightning instead."

"... You summoned lighting to light your cigar?" Xavier asked.

"Yes. Is that weird?"

"Weird doesn’t even come close. And forget that, how can you summon lightning?"

"Just like how you can increase the size of your limbs."

Xavier’s mouth went agape.

"You mean to say you have a skill to call lighting?"

"More or less."

"How can you be so nonchalant about it?" Draxus chimed in.

Jammy sighed.

"I am a middle aged man addicted to smoking. Nothing makes me excited anymore. Now stop talking and do what we have gone out for."

"What?" Xavier asked.

Jammy rolled his eyes.

A curse came to his tongue but Zane raised his hand.

Jammy swallowed the curse and Zane answered Xavier their next mission.

"It’s time to buy weapons."
