Chapter 920: Give Away [Free Bonus Chapter]
A few hours passed as Asher never stopped moving, his mind, body, and soul completely in sync as nothing broke his immersion and concentration. It was as though he had entered the Zone State, yet he hadn’t.
Soon, his body came to a stop, his sword pointed forward, his upper body on full display as he had taken off his shirt before the training began. His perfectly toned abs, chest, and back were covered in sweat as he slowly tried to regulate his breathing.
His eyes fluttered open as he stood upright, returning to a normal stance, a smile unable to stay off his face. He had made undeniable and substantial progress, and if he kept at it... he would level up, in a sense.
’Sigh... too bad there isn’t a training chamber. I would have loved to train my rapier techniques too,’ he thought to himself as he walked toward the corner of the room where the nightstand stood. Picking up a small hand towel, he wiped the sweat from his face before sitting on the bed in thought.
If he trained any Stanza from Song Of Virelass, then the hotel would be scorched out of existence, with numerous students dying in the process.
His gaze rose toward the glass window before him. The sky had already grown dark, and while many fans were beginning to return to their homes, quite a number still remained gathered outside.
’Since I’m done with training, I should place an order for a nice meal, then hit the shower. The food should arrive just as I walk out of the bathroom,’ Asher thought to himself as he planned to simply eat and sleep his exhaustion away.
He rose to his feet and placed a call to the kitchen department. Astra Energy pulsed through his veins as he returned everything within the room to its original position as though he had never moved any of it in the first place.
Taking off his clothes, he stepped into the shower and walked out a quarter of an hour later with a peaceful expression, as though he had just enjoyed the best bath of his life. The moment he put on the white Gentle Hotel robe that was provided every single day, the bell to his room chimed. Opening the door, he found a member of the kitchen staff pushing a food trolley, as Asher had ordered quite the variety of dishes.
Asher allowed the man to enter, and the staff placed the food upon the table as Asher sat down before it, ready to begin eating. He picked up a spoon and placed a spoonful of rice into his mouth.
The moment he completed the motion, the kitchen staff immediately sprang into action. A teleportation scroll appeared in his hand, and he tore it apart without hesitation. A bright light erupted from the scroll, rapidly expanding to envelop both himself and Asher while simultaneously sealing the room to nullify every form of teleportation except the one generated by the scroll itself.
Asher arched an eyebrow, and the next moment, both he and the kitchen staff vanished. But in the very next split second, Asher reappeared in another part of his room, specifically on the chair where a dagger marked with Position Marker rested.
Asher sat in silence as though waiting for the assassin to return. He knew the teleportation scroll had been intended to transport them somewhere prepared for his execution or interrogation. Although Space had been restricted, Position Marker could bypass all spatial restrictions.
He had anticipated something like this happening sooner or later. He knew of the Sinvairas. He knew of The Maddened organization. He also knew that the four Empires were constantly at one another’s throats. It had only been a matter of time before one of those factions decided to make a move on his life.
Besides, Asher had never been caught off guard. He already knew the kitchen staff member was an imposter. After all, when the man entered his room, he made absolutely no sound with his footsteps, which was abnormal. Every genuine Gentle Hotel staff member who had entered his room up until this point had always made at least some noise while walking.
But the assassin hadn’t considered that particular detail. His own deeply ingrained habit had betrayed him. Aside from that, every other aspect of his disguise had been practically flawless.
The assassin teleported back into Asher’s room using another scroll.
"I never thought you would return on your own. You’ve seen my power during my battle with Arianna Haellight, and from what I can see, you’re only at the Radiant Firmstar Life Rank. What makes you think you can take me on?" Asher asked, slightly amused as he remained seated on his chair.
He didn’t rush. This was simply another form of entertainment before he retired for the night.
The assassin smiled before speaking, his body twitching as he removed his disguise, revealing that he had murdered the real kitchen staff member and assumed his identity.
"Although I might have failed to catch you and bring you to my prepared burial ground, your biggest mistake was eating that rice. Even though you took only a spoonful, it is enough to tear apart your internal organs. After all, there is a reason I waited until you took that bite before making my move," the man replied with confidence, certain that Asher’s strength was already rapidly plummeting.
However, he knew he had to act quickly. Although he didn’t know how Asher had ignored the spatial restriction, he decided to put that matter aside for the moment.
Asher simply raised one hand. The spoonful of rice he had seemingly eaten appeared in his palm, having never actually been swallowed. Only a fool would have done so. The instant the rice entered his mouth, he had transferred it into his System Inventory because he had already suspected that the food was poisoned. After all, poisoning was one of the oldest methods in an assassin’s arsenal.
The assassin’s eyes widened in shock, but before he could even blink, Asher was already before him. His body floated effortlessly above the ground as he unleashed a powerful high kick toward the assassin’s temple, the hotel loafers covering his feet crashing into the man’s head with explosive force.
The assassin’s body shot violently sideways, but before he could collide with the wall and crash into the next room, Asher appeared directly in his path and drove a punch into his ribs. The assassin was launched in the opposite direction, but once again, Asher was already waiting. Before the assassin could smash into the shelves lining the wall, Asher caught him by the head with one hand, effortlessly halting all of his momentum.
"Do better in your next life," Asher said, his tone filled with amusement.
With that, brilliant white flames erupted to life as he burned the assassin alive while simultaneously surrounding the room with an Astra Energy barrier to seal away every one of the man’s agonized screams. Throughout the brief fight, the assassin hadn’t been capable of following even a single one of Asher’s movements. How could he? Although he shared the same Life Rank as Arianna, the gap between their combat prowess was as vast as heaven and earth.
As the assassin was burned into nothingness, leaving not even a trace of ash behind, Asher casually incinerated the rest of the food upon the table before replacing it with Lyra’s cooking from his System Inventory. He then proceeded to enjoy a delicious meal as though absolutely nothing had happened.
He smiled, already anticipating the next assassination attempt. He wasn’t worried about losing sleep. He would still sleep like a baby. After all, he would simply leave his defense to a Photon Clone and his Omni Perception.
