Chapter 820: Let Rampant And Uncontrolled
Ariana Haellight could be sitting on a branch of a tree as she stared at the Qualifiers Ranking with an expressionless gaze. She was looking at Asher’s points, which were so close to two million that she doubted such a score was even possible to acquire on the second day. After all, Asher had only been ahead of her by four thousand (4,000) points; now he was over a million points ahead.
’A Positive Zone?’ she thought to herself.
But as she thought of that, she shook her head. To her, such a Positive Zone seemed outrageous. She was sure many other students had stumbled upon various Positive Zones, but none of them had seen their points skyrocket this much.
A smile couldn’t help but break across her lips as her mind went back to the time her eyes met Asher’s, and the time they had met outside while she was waiting for her car.
’It seems I might have stumbled upon someone who can keep up with me,’ Arianna thought silently as her gaze remained on the Qualifier Round Ranking.
It wasn’t that she looked down on anyone; it was simply that she was too strong and talented for other people to challenge or even keep up with.
’Wargrave,’ she thought to herself. She knew much about them; after all, her father talked about them so much that she had eventually asked her mother about it.
She looked at the third rank, which was held by another Wargrave. Although she had never met one before, she finally understood that her father might not have been exaggerating all those times he talked about them.
’I hope I would be able to fight either of them,’ Arianna thought to herself as she ate an apple with a smile.
Personally, she wasn’t bothered that she was in second place or that Asher was ahead of her by so many points. To her, as long as she was within the top fifty, then it didn’t matter what rank she landed at when the fourth day ended. After all, it wasn’t like there was a reward for those who held the top ten ranks or anything like that.
’I wonder if I would encounter any Zones,’ her thoughts shifted as her eyes moved from the ranking, the heads-up display vanishing. Until now, she hadn’t encountered a single Zone, although she had encountered various students, some who attacked and some who avoided her.
As Arianna was in thought and calmly eating her apple, the trees before her shot sideways with battering force as the earth shook as though an earthquake was coming; a Monster was incoming.
Arianna remained where she was. The moment the Monster came into view, it was a Rhinoceros Monster, and it charged straight at her.
Arianna’s amber-gold eyes left whatever direction they were focused on at the moment and simply glanced at the Monster that was charging at her. The moment she looked at it, it exploded with gut-wrenching ease as brown blood splattered into the air, limbs torn apart, the hard body that made it appear like an impregnable defence shredded apart, limbs and organs floating through the air before they hit the ground with various thuds.
She had done nothing more than glance at it.
Arianna finished eating the fruit she held and jumped down from the branch she sat on, then began to walk forward in a random direction. Although she was taking the Qualifier Round with ease, it didn’t mean she planned to play around and lose the Inter-Empire Competition. No, she intended to win that.
Her steps disappeared into the forest as any living thing that appeared before her that wasn’t Human was erased the moment she gazed at it. They were simply too weak to make her draw the twin short swords that hung by her sides. The forest remained calm around her, yet every creature hidden within seemed to instinctively avoid her path, as though sensing a danger they could neither comprehend nor resist.
At another direction, Isaac Wrath Chillstorm could be seen sitting on a throne made of corpses, his body drenched entirely in blood as he had just finished another round of massacre at this moment.
’How is this even possible?’ he thought to himself as he stared at the ranking.
He was in fourth place, which was a good ranking. Those who were ahead of him weren’t too far ahead, and he could close the distance during the last two days.
’Over a million,’ he thought to himself. ’What is the Inter-Empire Competition doing? Is this bracelet glitching?’ he wondered.
Of course, he had always noticed Asher’s skyrocketing points and the boy constantly holding the first rank since he stepped into the rankings, with his own brother holding third place.
’Sigh... it seems even the warnings Mom and Dad gave me about the Wargraves were still a bit of an understatement,’ he thought to himself as he shook his head with a sigh.
Although he had said the bracelet was probably malfunctioning, he didn’t truly believe that, as there was simply no way that was possible.
’Malrik Wargrave, the First Sun,’ his thoughts shifted. ’Can I even get to such a level if I can’t even defeat the First Sun, the Ninth Sun, and Arianna Haellight?’ he thought to himself.
When Isaac was little, his mother had practically told him that he was the most talented person the Thalvorn Empire had ever seen, and that he was as talented as the man known as the Bloodline Eraser.
Naturally, he had developed a liking for the man, Malrik Wargrave, and had aimed to surpass him. But staring at the ranking, it seemed it wouldn’t be so easy.
’Hmm...’ Isaac hummed as his thoughts remained on Malrik. ’Too bad I couldn’t meet him when we were at the gala,’ he mused to himself.
With a shake of his head, he rose to his feet as he walked down the stairs of corpses below him, his Astra Energy flickering around him as the blood on him vanished, his body becoming dry and neat once more.
Even so, his gaze lingered on the rankings for a few moments longer, as though trying to understand how someone could create such an overwhelming gap in points within a single day.
At another location, seated on a mountain, was Thalric Wargrave. He sat with a smile on his face as his sabre floated beside him. How could he not smile? His brother was dominating the rankings, and he felt happy about it.
’It seems I might have to try harder to take second place,’ he thought to himself, as the Wargraves were supposed to be second to no one. He and his brother were meant to be first and second place. Everyone else could be below them.
’Twelve thousand points,’ he thought to himself, as that was how many points he needed to surpass Arianna Haellight at the moment.
’If I spread my Decay throughout this wasteland and wiped it out once and for all, I could gain twice as much as that with ease,’ Thalric thought to himself.
Although it sounded impossible, he could do it. All he had to do was let his Decay run rampant and uncontrolled, and it would erase everything off the map. Trees, land, mountains, it didn’t matter what it was.
’Alas, I don’t want to mistakenly kill any students,’ he sighed as he shook his head.
Although one might argue that students would have time to destroy their bracelets if the Decay threatened them, in reality, they wouldn’t, as his Decay Affinity was simply too potent.
’But the Thalvorn Empire and those who organized the Inter-Empire Competition are responsible for the safety of students,’ he thought to himself, the idea occurring to him. If students were decaying, shouldn’t they be able to save them? Besides, if the students were eliminated, it simply meant more points for him.
The more he thought about it, the more reasonable the idea appeared in his mind, and a faint smile gradually spread across his face.
And with that, Thalric Wargrave rose to his feet, and the next instant, eighty percent of his Astra Energy erupted into the sky with detonating madness as the wind howled in his ears, his hair dancing wildly as he prepared to simply Decay everything.
No one shall be above the Wargraves. Only the Wargraves were allowed to be better than each other.
