Chapter 545: Revenge Is Best Served Cold?
There wasn’t much to say after that as everyone was thinking their own things.
"If you need anything... just ask. Alright?" Lessa said finally, waking up from her plans.
"I’m not going to drag you two into my problems. Believe me when I say you want no part of it or me. Even just me being here could be a problem in the future," Laz argued back. He didn’t want his karma to affect these two. After all, he didn’t have many normal friends that he could actually spend time with so it was nice that at least these two still counted among them.
He wasn’t going to risk that.
"Look baby," Lessa started to say, putting a hand on Laz’s arm.
"I’m not sure you realize this, but just being who I am is a problem. Maybe not to the extent you’re going through... but obviously being a woman born in a man’s body hasn’t been easy for me. At least these days I have some options, not like it was in the past. You’ve never brought it up nor looked at me differently because of it either. Sure, we haven’t seen each other much even when you were around back then, but even meeting us again... I didn’t sense any sort of hesitation or revulsion from you, something I normally see a lot of in this line of work. And as for Leo here... do you already know about him?" Lessa asked, looking over at Leo who paled a little bit.
Laz looked over at his friend and sighed before nodding. He didn’t know it before, but ever since he became stronger, some things are much easier to figure out now.
Amira and Brittany looked a bit confused while Leo himself just sighed.
"Unlike me who can have it removed, it’s much harder for him to actually be given a penis. It’s not impossible anymore... but it’s so crazy expensive that actually having it done is still almost impossible," Lessa explained.
The way Amira and Brittany’s mouths hung open was comical to an abnormal degree.
"It’s not like I try to hide it, if I’m being honest. But most of the time it doesn’t really come up either, no pun intended. And I’m not even sure I want a penis if I’m being real here. It’s not like I can’t please a woman as it is... it’s just... I don’t know..."
"To have two twins born into the wrong bodies... If there is a god, he must be one cruel bastard...." Lessa added on to her brother’s words.
"And you knew and didn’t say anything?" Leo then asked, turning to Laz.
"What did you want me to say? What did you want me to point out? You’re my bro and that’s enough for me. Don’t matter what you got or don’t got in your pants in the end. Sides, I’ve got more than enough for everyone..."
The side gallery of Amira and Brittany both started choking out of nowhere at Laz’s little joke, causing Laz, Leo and Lessa to laugh.
"Guess they agree with that statement huh?" Lessa said between breaths.
"Seems like it yeah. Makes me curious now... but not that curious... DON’T YOU DARE DROP YOUR PANTS IN FRONT OF MY SISTER!!!" Leo yelled at Laz who was standing up and unzipping.
Laz looked at Leo who glared back at him before they both started laughing.
"Not like I said no honey..." Lessa whispered underneath her breath.
"Anyway. Thank you both for a wonderful evening but it seems our guests are leaving," Laz said turning and looking to his left, as though he could see through the wall.
"You can tell that?" Leo asked, looking in the same direction.
"Yeah. Also... looks like there is someone in there who is no longer moving either..."
"FUCK! I’m not covering his ass anymore...." Lessa then said between clinched teeth.
"No... I hate to say it, but this is a good thing I think. Do what you can but hold on to that poor woman. At the very least, her family should be able to wrangle some compensation out of this..." Laz then said with a sigh.
"What ever happened to you saying you wouldn’t ignore what was right in front of you?" Amira asked, speaking up for the first time since Leo and Lessa had arrived.
"She was dead anyway. When I looked in their earlier, her body was already in the midst of breaking down, combination of neglect and drug use from what I can see. I might be able to save someone who wasn’t so far gone... but I’m not god. And if I did make a scene right then... things might have gotten quite a bit harder going forward, both for us and for them. You can hate me if you want, gods know I do quite a bit every day. But taking out that bastard for good will save countless others in the future. That is the only solace I can offer that poor soul, something I’ve had to accept more than once. One day though... one day... I will be able to save everyone I want and no one will be able to stop me. That is my goal in the end...." Laz admitted, turning to face Amira.
Is one person’s death worth the lives of all the people who could be saved as a result? There are arguments on both sides of that debate and perhaps both of them are right.
Perhaps neither of them are.
But Laz didn’t weigh things like that, nor did he care. For him, he would just do what his heart told him to. At least that way he wouldn’t be drowned in grief and regret.
"So wait... you said when we first came in you noticed that right?" Brittany asked.
"Yeah."
"So then how long before she died?"
"Before the show even started if I’m being honest."
"So what.... they..."
"Yeah. They took turns fucking a dead girl on the floor of the room...." Laz confirmed, even if he didn’t want to...
"That’s so... fucked up...." Amira squeaked, barely able to speak the words in her mind.
"It’s... his thing.... from what I heard...." Lessa said, a bit reluctantly.
"His thing?"
"When he wants to destroy a family... It’s bad enough for a family when a young daughter gets raped. But at least there is still a chance as long as she is alive for her safe return. And maybe there is even the chance to be healed in the future. But imagine if videos go around of that same daughter being raped after having been killed? What people will think? What the family will think? Can you imagine what that does to the parents? That bastard does. It’s one of the many reasons people fear him, not just his backing or his daddy. The idea’s he gets are just that.... repulsive," Lessa explained, holding back tears. It was easy to tell that she didn’t want any part in any of this... but she had her own struggles and worries. And for her own part, she did her best to make sure the body was always returned in as good of a condition as possible.
It was the only thing she was allowed to do.
Laz could feel the waves of anger... of sheer rage coming from Amira and Brittany at this latest development. After all, Lessa and Leo were just normal people. How could they even begin to go against some high ranking chosen like Robert. Even now, the only thing they could do was play their part knowing that it could be them on the floor the next time.
Laz put a hand on Amira and Brittany’s hand and sent a small shot of energy, just a whisp of black flame into their bodies. The flame treated their rage like water, but instead of smoldering it, it just burned it out of them. Just enough for them to calm themselves down.
"Relax for now. Calm your minds. This is far from over..." Laz advised.
Despite the tiny bit of energy dong it’s work, both women were still enflamed in rage.
"How can you just be so... uncaring..." Brittany asked, looking at Laz in the eyes.
"Let me teach you something. Something I only learned the hard way. You ever hear that expression that revenge is a dish best served cold?" Laz asked, returning her glare.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Brittany responded, ready to go make a scene even if Laz wasn’t going to.
The strong hand on her shoulder stopped her.
"Listen first. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" Laz said in a yell that was barely more than a whisper.
"Yes daddy..." Brittany said, subconsciously.
"You will have your revenge. And I promise you, you will love it. But when it’s done, I want you to be done with it to. When fire and anger consume you, something like revenge just isn’t enough. Instead of putting out the flames, it just ignites them more. When that happens, the revenge becomes worthless and no matter what you do in the future, there will always be that regret. But cold revenge... that will fill you for a long time. Maybe you won’t believe me now... but I promise you will in the future," Laz explained as carefully as possible.
Brittany continued to glare at him before taking a deep breath and settling down. It seemed the flame had more of an impact on Amira... but then again Brittany’s anger was just that stronger in the first place anyway.
"So now what?" Brittany asked.
"Now... we get ready to move. They are leaving after all. Time to see where they have chosen as their final resting place," Laz said with a smirk, getting up.
"Did you just say revenge is a dish best served cold?" Brittany asked with a half smile, wondering just where his head was at.
"Well. Yes... but lukewarm will be cold enough, don’t you think?"
