Chapter 501: Schemes And Plots

Laz was on the phone with Dani for a while, going back and forth.

"Yeah. I told you that. Of course I kept my cover. This is better than anything your people got so why the hell are you trying to order me around? Do you think that doing it your way will work? I don’t care. Just give them the info and tell me what you find. Yeah. Bye," Laz hung up the phone and sat down as Jill brought him a glass of scotch.

"I hate this stuff..." Laz said, drinking it down in one swig.

"That’s because you’re neither old nor refined," Jill commented back and took a sip of whatever red colored drink she poured for herself.

"You’re not old enough to drink," Laz said, his head still draped over the back of the chair.

"You going to stop me?" Jill asked with an evil smirk.

"Nope, just pointing it out. I would hate for you to go down the wrong path an all."

"Right. That’s your concern."

"Yep. That it is."

"You should be nicer to Dani, she’s just doing her job."

Dani was the agent Laz was going through for this. While the Hearn Corporation was helping him with this via their satellite store, they also wanted contact with him and updates, especially if he wanted them to keep helping him.

Laz knew having a crew to call on and people to help was indispensable. That was something he realized after working with the elves. After all, going from being the Queen’s favorite to being just regular old Laz again was enough to show him how extra hands was beneficial.

The biggest problem was that the giant company had to protect their ass at every turn so while they could offer help, they couldn’t just stand out and do it.

Calls to Dani on the cell she had given him was a must but he didn’t think they should being giving their ’advice’ on how to complete this mission or even what the mission was going to be.

Laz didn’t have a clear goal in mind, but ever since witnessing what was happening to Jennia, his feelings towards the place went from curiosity to downright rage. She wasn’t someone important in his life, but seeing her trapped and abused like that made things flare up in him he didn’t even know he felt.

As for why he had those feelings, he could only connect it to his grandpa, but it wasn’t like he had a shrink to go work things out with. So for now, he could only let those feeling inside stir.

"I could just burn the fucking place to the ground?" Laz said, for the hundredth time.

"And I remind you how even you said it would be impossible to keep everyone who is trapped there safe if you did," Jill replied with a sigh.

"Did you just sigh at me?" Laz asked, still not lifting his head.

"You’re strong. And caring. And exceptional... So I sometimes forget this very important fact until you remind me..." Jill said, taking another sip of her drink.

"What’s that?"

"You’re a man..."

"..."

"..."

"What if I just destroy that main office building? Then everyone could free themselves in the process?"

"ARRGGGG! NO! THE SELF DESTRUCT ON THE COLLARS!!!!"

"Right. Right... That’s why I shelved that idea earlier."

Jill started rubbing her head in frustration.

...

"Hello. I’m your customer care consultant for today. My name is Janelle, how can I help you?"

"Kilo Foxtrot Alpha 447692," Dani said, double checking the monitors in place around the store from her office.

"Registered. Line Secured. Please give the nature of your report."

"Regarding target of interest number 1."

"TARGET NUMBER !?" Came Janelle’s response, obviously quite surprised.

"Yes."

"Hang on. Transferring you to priority office."

The line went dead for a minute before another female voice picked up the phone.

"This is Mary. Please go ahead."

Dani gave all of the information she had collected about Laz including who he was with, what he was doing, his overall state and health and any thing else that seemed either relevant or irrelevant, including what he was wearing down to what his current appearance was. Although there would be pictures and a video sent, everything had to be communicated by word of mouth the ensure the accuracy of the details.

"Thank you. We will be sending additional support to your area including a trained agent to help conduct all operations. Since you have the link with the person, you will continue to be his primary means of contact but will in turn report as well to the field agent. She should be there by tonight at the latest. If anything further develops before that, call back and they will transfer you directly to my line. Thank you agent Dani and good job!"

The line went dead at this announcement and Dani hung up the phone. Although she trusted the security set up in place, the fact that it involved Laz wasn’t something she ever thought she would be involved with when she read the initial list all those years ago. As for what he had done down in Colorado, even she had a hard time believing that. But the report that came in did so first hand and no information would be sent verified if it wasn’t.

What this all meant was that she was now handling the most wanted awakened in the country, both by her employer and the government. And what’s more, his current intentions involved sneaking into one of the most dangerous places in the country for their kind right now.

’Fuck. He’s stubborn as shit. But I guess, considering his record, he’s allowed to be. There are only a hand full of people who are allowed to use the resources of the corporation but aren’t employees and he tops the list. Even if he wanted to sell the main office building, they would probably let him. This is either going to be the biggest mission of my life... or get me killed. And nothing in his profile suggests that it will be anything otherwise,’ Dani thought, piecing through the file once again.

She had already read it dozens of times, but she was reading it again and staring at the collection of his pictures.

Looking at a picture was nothing like meeting the man in real life.

’Sure. The picture makes him look handsome. But it isn’t until you’re in his presence that you can feel just how special he is...or how powerful. God.... just the smell when I was close to him that one time... ah. Fuck it... I need this right now,’ Dani said, blowing up the movie that showed him facing the god that had risen back in Colorado on to her computer screen and letting the short, twenty seven second clip play. It was like watching an actual David versus Goliath, except they weren’t just words written thousands of years ago.

Dani couldn’t help but touch herself again as she watched the short video play out.

...

"Is she going to be ok?" A woman in a bright orange jumpsuit said as she looked over Jennia’s wounds.

"She’s tough. It will take more than this to break her," Replied another as the help Jennia lay down in bed, her body still a mess of injuries, but healing slowly.

"I can’t believe that she got herself sent in there just to experience this just because they lower the inhibitor when they are done so that she can heal properly," the first woman said, wrapping a blanket around Jennia’s body.

"It was her idea and it was the best one we had. There is no telling when we will be sent somewhere and never return. Before that happens, we need to succeed in this. Otherwise our only option is to wait until death. Now she did her part, it’s time for us to do ours," the second woman said, taking out a clay jar and a couple fresh bandages.

"It’s so great that after freezing a few of her toes off, they give us fresh bandages to treat them with," the first woman said sarcastically.

"She’ll heal on her own. These are actually so that others don’t see what happened and get scared," the second woman shot back before taking Jennia’s fingers on her right hand and rubbing them along the top of the jar as the tiny jagged pieces inside of the upper neck did the trick, breaking open the skin and allowing blood to run freely into the jar.

"If only it didn’t have to be blood with energy in it, or if we didn’t have these stupid collars, could have already opened the lock on her majesties tomb and freed her.

"Nothing we can do but take this one step at a time. The day she rises is the day we are free once again."

"The day she rises is the day we are freed," The second woman responded as thought it was a quote they both lived by.

After enough time had passed and enough blood had been collected, the second woman bound up Jennia’s hands and delivered it to another short, brown haired girl waiting outside the cell.

"Long live her majesty," the second woman said and bowed, along with the first.

"Long live her majesty," said the short prison guard waiting outside the doors.
