Chapter 129: Love Is Weird
"W-What are you saying?" I pulled Ryzen to keep some distance from Night and his classmates.
"But you like Night Fuentes right? Was I wrong?"
"I-I mean you’re not... but you’re also not correct."
I looked at Night and when he glanced in our direction, I immediately turned around and made Ryzen do the same.
"Uh, what are we doing?"
"J-Just stay put." I don’t want him to see me like this. ’If I admit that I still like him, I might act stupid.’
"Night, can’t we just form a study group in your house?" I heard Bethany’s voice which made me peek at them, and as usual, she was clinging to Night’s arm. "Don’t you think it’ll be easier for everyone if Night teaches us?"
I pulled Ryzen to hide behind a pillar while looking at Night and his female classmates. "Why are we hiding? Is this how you usually stalk Night?"
"Shhh!"
Ryzen raised his hands in defeat. "If I may ask a question, I thought Night and Noelle are close buddies now? Since Night asked Noelle on a date." He looked in the direction of Night and his classmates. "I think if you want to talk to him, he’ll definitely entertain you. He looks bored with his classmate though."
When I looked at Night, he does look bored. He doesn’t look like that when he’s with me. ’Wait! Why am I competing with Bethany? I shouldn’t be thinking like this.’ I took a deep breath as I slowly followed Night and his classmates from behind. Ryzen didn’t ask any more questions and just followed me.
"Why are we following them?"
"Shhh."
We reached the advanced class’s building and I didn’t expect that I’ll be setting foot here again. "Night, what do you say? Don’t you want to have a study session with us?" I hear Bethany’s voice echoing through the hallway. Her shrill voice makes my ears hurt. "It’ll be fun."
"Shut up." I froze and stopped Ryzen from following them when Night said that. The girls that were following Night around were also surprised by what he said, most especially Bethany. "Your voice makes my ears hurt."
Ryzen and I looked at each other because clearly, we heard those words.
"B-But Night, I thought you didn’t hate me being around you—"
Night stared at Bethany, there were no emotions in his eyes as if he was looking at something that doesn’t concern him. ’That’s the way he looked at me before.’
"Stop bothering me and leave me alone." His voice sounds different than when he’s talking to me. "I didn’t bother saying this but you all are annoying." After saying that, Night walked away, leaving his fan girls dumbfounded and heartbroken.
"Well, that was mean," Ryzen said as he was about to comfort those girls like the kind guy he is, but I stopped him. "Should I just leave them be?"
I nodded. "It’s their fault for annoying him anyway." It’s not like Night would say such things if he’s not pushed to the edge. "He doesn’t usually do that, so maybe he got really irritated by them."
"You have a point. Then, shall we go back to the classroom? Kaoru might be waiting for you." I nodded.
When I arrived back in the classroom, Kaoru was sweating buckets and he kneeled in front of me. "M-Milady, where did you go?" He asked while panting. Did he run somewhere?
"I’ll go first okay," Ryzen said as he picked up his bag and left. ’Did he hear Kaoru calling me ’milady’? I think he just ignored it.’ I sighed.
"What happened to you?"
There were already tears coming out of Kaoru’s eyes. "I was so worried about the lady. When I came back, you were gone but your bag was still there. That’s why I tried to search everywhere for you and even contacted Kenji about it." He continuously said without a break.
"I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I helped Ryzen bring back the paintings to the art room." I said as I patted Kaoru’s head. "Let’s go home now. I need to study." Kaoru took a deep breath as he brought my bag with him. We walked towards the car and Kenji was waiting there with a look of relief on his face.
"I thought the lady was missing?" Kenji said as he sighed in relief. "I’m glad you’re safe. If you weren’t, I wouldn’t get the end of the young master’s scolding." He said as he opened the car door with a smile. I don’t know if he’s being serious but I just ignored it.
We got home quick because there was no traffic so we arrived fast. "Young miss, welcome home." Rika greeted me with a smile. "I have news for the miss." She said which made me tilt my head. Rika pulled me to my room and I just looked at Kaoru while I shrug since I don’t know what was going on?
"What’s going on? Is this good news?"
"No!" My eyes widened after hearing Rika raise her voice. "I-I apologize for raising my voice like that, b-but I feel really scared." She said. What’s making her feel scared?
"Why? What happened?"
"Lady Tomoe’s coming back to the Philippines."
’Oh no.’
Even I felt like raising my voice because of that. ’I thought Shiho and the others will be coming back to Japan soon. I didn’t expect that Tomoe will be the one coming back here.’
This is getting worse, what if Night realizes that he doesn’t really like me when Tomoe comes back here? What if he realizes that it’s really Tomoe that he likes and not me? ’It scares me to think about it.’
"What if lady Tomoe starts bullying the miss again?" So that’s why Rika was panicking. It makes me feel relieved that someone’s genuinely worrying about me like this. "I’m afraid that the lady’s attendant might be mean towards the miss again."
I patted Rika’s head. "You don’t have to worry about that. Do I look like I’m someone easy to be bullied?" Rika shook her head. "That’s right. You don’t have to worry about me, I’m more worried about you."
"W-Why, young miss? I won’t do anything that’ll humiliate the young miss."
I laughed. What does she mean by humiliating? "It’s not like that. Didn’t you get hurt before because of me? I don’t want that to happen again so if you hear them talking bad about me, just tell it to me and don’t get into a fight."
Rika nodded. "Okay, that’s that. I still have other problems to tend to." I changed into my casual clothes and told Rika that I’ll be going to the room that I share with Night.
After what happened to us yesterday, I couldn’t look him in the eye this morning. I feel too ashamed, but since I’ll be facing this head-on, there’s no time for embarrassment. When the examinations are over, and I made sure that I pass, I’ll confess to him again. If he rejects me, I can move on peacefully.
I won’t run away anymore.
I went inside the room and saw that it was empty. ’Night’s still at school? I wonder what happened after he told his classmates off like that.’ I sighed as I placed my books on the desk and lay my body on the bed. It’s tiring even though I didn’t use my body that much today.
’I guess using my brain too much can cause tiredness too.’
If the final examination is not tomorrow, I’ll just sleep and laze around, but I can’t do that. All I have to do is review all I’ve learned from my teachers and Night.
"Are you asleep?" I rolled to my side and looked in the direction of the door. Night just arrived and he’s still wearing his uniform. ’He’s really liking this room more than his own room huh?’ I thought as I got up from the bed.
"If you want to sleep we can just go to sleep."
"Do I look smart enough to relax just like you?"
"No." Well, that was a quick answer. "But I know you worked hard enough to deserve a good sleep."
Night is not the type to lie about something, so maybe what he said was the truth. "But I can’t relax yet," I said as I get off the bed. "I’ll relax after I finished the exams."
"Then are you going to overexert yourself every time you need to pass something?" His tone was firm and it caught me off guard. "I don’t want to see you losing consciousness because of fatigue." That reminds me, it was Night who helped me when I passed out after finishing my special examination.
"Were you worried about me that time?"
"I was more annoyed."
I guess he was. "I won’t pass out this time so don’t be annoyed."
"I’m more worried now."
I turned around to hide my face from him because I might look like an idiot smiling from ear to ear.
’Why is it like this? Just yesterday I was trying to control myself, but now that I admit that I still do like Night, I feel like I’ll fall for him all over again.’
I placed my hands on my cheeks. ’Love is so weird.’
