Chapter 113: Source of Misunderstanding

Rika prepared my bath with tears still coming out of her eyes. "Why are you still crying?" I asked while giggling as I get into the bathtub. "It’s over, I’m back already."

"B-But the miss suffered for a whole day and a half. I can’t even imagine the fear you must have felt."

Fear? Actually, I felt quite comfortable that it was scary. "That person didn’t hurt me, I’m fine." I tried reassuring Rika, but she was lost in her own imagination.

"You should have seen the young master’s face when he arrived back in the manor without the miss," Rika said as she shook her head. "It was terrifying. His eyes looked like he was about to go berserk, and he immediately told sir Kenji to search for the miss."

My forehead creased. "Did you see right?" Oh, maybe Night was panicking because he’ll get punished by grandpa Kenta.

"If it wasn’t for the tracking app on the miss’s phone, sir Kenji will have had a hard time finding your location."

"Come again?" There’s a tracking app on my phone!? "When did they put—" Oh, when Asahi took my phone after I received weird messages last time. That must be when they placed a tracking app.

"Will the miss stay in her room for now? Or will she spend the night with the young master?"

Hmm, I haven’t thanked him yet, so maybe I’ll go to our room. "I’ll go to our room after I eat dinner," I said and Rika agreed.

’Why am I acting normal after being abducted? I know I shouldn’t get used to such events, but I should be at least afraid.’

Why am I not afraid? Was it because Z wasn’t like how I thought he would be? Because he didn’t treat me with violence, instead he was just like a friend. He reminds me of someone, but I don’t remember who.

After dinner with Shiho, I walked in the hallway towards Night and my room. It was tough calming Shiho down because of what happened. She kept telling me that she doesn’t want to lose anyone anymore, just like what Night said earlier.

’Who are they talking about?’

Was it their mother? That reminds me, I don’t really know the cause of their mother’s death. Am I even allowed to know? I’ll be leaving soon anyway.

I arrived in front of the door to our room, but I felt awkward. Should I knock? Night didn’t eat dinner with me and Kaoru said that he was in the room so he’s probably still inside.

’I’ll just enter. Whatever.’

I thought as I opened the sliding door and saw that no one was inside. That’s until I heard the sound of water in the bathroom. Is he taking a shower? I guess he is.

With that, I went to my desk and placed my laptop, and started working on some assignments. It’s been hectic because of the school festival, and next month I need to win the semifinals of the swimming competition.

There’ll be not enough time for me to work on my lessons if not now. Even though I should be feeling scared for my life right now. I have too many things to do right now so I don’t have time for that.

I stopped writing after I thought of that. Am I continuously changing? Is this good for me? Or is it bad?

’I don’t really know. But if I could adapt to situations like this, isn’t this better?’ I sighed as I placed my head on the desk and stared at the window near the bed.

"I feel lazy."

"It’s amazing that you’re studying after being kidnapped." I stood up due to surprise, almost causing the chair to fall to the ground if it wasn’t for Night’s quick reflex.

"Are you that surprised?" He chuckled but quickly winced causing me to touch his face with both of my hands.

"What happened to you?" I asked as I stared at his bruised cheek. I don’t remember Z punching Night in the face. "D-Did grandpa Kenta slapped you?" I bit my lower lip as I looked down. If that’s indeed the case, I’ll feel so bad for him.

I felt Night’s hand on my chin as he made me look up at his face. "Stop biting your lips. It’ll bleed." He said with a gentle tone, but I kept doing it.

"W-Why did he slap you? It wasn’t your fault."

His hand ruffled my hair and caught me off guard. "This is normal. It was my mistake. I couldn’t protect you." He said. "I deserved this, so don’t feel bad." How did he know that I’m feeling bad? I hate him so why would I feel bad?

"Hey."

The way he talks to me changed... it’s more... gentle. "Stop talking like that."

"Talking like what?"

"Like you care about me."

Night sighed. "We’re still going to talk about this? After my confession?" He chuckled making me frown. He’s the one who can’t admit that he still has feelings for Tomoe. Until he’s able to admit that, I won’t believe him.

"About Tomoe..." Night said making me look at him with all my attention.

"What about her?"

Before he could answer, we heard a knock on the door.

’Again!?’ I thought as I felt frustrated because of the continuous disturbance.

"Young master, I have brought your medicine." I heard Kenji say. Now I can’t totally complain since it’s important. But what? Medicine? For what?

"Are you sick?" I turned to Night.

Night accepted what Kenji brought as he drank it with the water. "Not really." He said. That reminds me, he was sick too when I first came here. Is Night a sickly person?

"I remember you always have trouble sleeping before." That’s what Kenji and Rika told me, although I usually don’t pay attention to them. "I’m sorry. It’s all my—"

Night squeezed my cheeks making me unable to finish what I was saying. "I told you, this is normal." He said. "Don’t you want to rest now?"

Changing the topic, he leads me to the bed while caressing my hair. "Should I comb your hair for you?"

What’s with that? "It’s fine, but do you even know how to?"

Night scoffed. "What’s hard with combing hair?" He said as we sat on the bed and he pulled me closer to him making my eyes go wide.

"I’ll do it gently." Night said as he started combing my hair. His hands were clumsy but it was gentle, it reminds me of the first time my father tied my hair for me.

Mom was bedridden at that time because she had a bad cold, even though my nanny said that she’ll be tying my hair, my dad suggested doing it.

In the end, I went to school with uneven twin tails. I was only in elementary school back then so I guess it was fine. Seeing my father panic was a sight to see since he’s always calm and composed in front of us.

"Are you sure you’re doing it right? You’re only combing the edge." I said while chuckling.

"I’m trying to get rid of the entangled part first." He said. There’s no way there’s an entangled part on my hair since I already combed it before. And I have the smoothest and silky hair.

"Your hair’s pretty. Unlike Shiho’s." Night said.

"Shiho’s hair looks pretty though." It’s nice and wavy, unlike mine, straight and boring. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

I heard Night clicking his tongue which made me look at him. "Don’t suddenly turn around." He said as he forced my head to look in front again. "When Shiho was younger, her hair looks worse than Hagrid’s." I chuckled after hearing that.

"Wouldn’t that make her look adorable?"

"Yes, she is adorable."

That was the first time I talked with Night calmly and normally. It’s as if we’ve been talking like that before, even though we haven’t.

"What about Tomoe? Did you also comb her beautiful wavy hair?" I couldn’t help but ask that. This is the chance to learn about his feelings towards Tomoe.

"Why would I?"

I quickly turned to him after he said that.

"Ah! Why did you look at me? Now your hair’s all entangled again." He said with frustration but I turned around to face him properly. "What? You don’t want me to comb your hair anymore?"

I shook my head. "Not that." I gulped as I looked him in the eye. "You... you liked Tomoe too, right?"

I saw how Night raised an eyebrow. "She’s my cousin. I don’t particularly like her or some sort."

"That’s not what I meant!" Night tilted his head.

’He looks cute when he’s that confused.’ I immediately shook my head because of that thought.

"I meant... romantically. Since the two of you kissed."

Night’s face turned pale as he dropped the comb he was holding. "Night?" I called his name. Did I say something wrong for him to react like that?

"You saw me kissing Tomoe?"

I nodded. "Last time, in the garden when Tomoe first arrived here." As if blood left Night’s face, he turned pale and quiet.

’What happened to him?’
