Chapter 1100: Severing The Space - Diffindo!

A RUMBLE crawled over the earth as the dense forest surrounding the Gaunt Shack came alive the moment Dumbledore and Darcie took another step.

Dark branches, as sharp as blades, came rushing toward them from all directions, aiming to puncture right through them.

Dumbledore had already warned Darcie that if this place held another Horcrux, then it might have deadly charms and curses placed by Voldemort.

Ironically, the mere activation of such a deadly charm was also a confirmation.

Darcie’s thick winter robe flapped against the wind as it came alive, the Lethifold easily defending her back.

"Can we not Apparate directly to the Shack, Professor?" she asked casually.

The Headmaster was flicking his wand left and right, blasting the avalanche of branches and trees.

However, with one look, Darcie could tell that it was only a matter of time before this avalanche became a sea, drowning both of them.

She looked over her shoulder and heard loud snaps as Lilith swatted away the branches attacking her. Her eyes narrowed. Forget spying the trail they had used to arrive here; she could barely see through the wall of trees becoming taller and taller.

Darcie’s eyes circled as the Headmaster fought off the wooden spears and swords.

This wall of trees was everywhere, trapping them within.

The moment this wall stopped gaining height...

"Anti-Disapparition Jinx," Lord Black Phoenix said, realizing their grim situation, too. "You... can go past that, perhaps... But, no. Let’s not leave your safety to chance."

"Well..." Darcie said, bringing her gaze back forward. "We must reach the Shack soon, Professor. From the looks of it, I don’t think Voldemort liked gardening..."

Dumbledore chuckled at the dark humor.

"That’s one thing you share with Mr. Black," he said, instantly making Darcie’s lips twist in disgust. "Well-placed quips."

The grand wizard had just finished his sentence when the rising of the wooden walls came to a sudden halt.

With that, the wooden spears and swords attacking them paused, too.

An odd silence lingered in the surroundings.

Not even the wind could be heard anymore.

Darcie and Dumbledore’s brows furrowed instantly, not falling for the menacing illusion of safety.

Then, it happened.

With a small rustling sound, the branches moved.

They didn’t move toward them, but circled the two intruders.

Slowly but surely, the loudness of the rustling intensified, becoming a thunderous roar.

It was like someone had put the two of them in the eye of a massive cyclone, with sharp, deadly branches serving as the wind.

And, slowly, the eye... began closing.

Darcie and Dumbledore’s hearts skipped a beat.

Neither of them was foolish enough to use fire at this moment, falling right into Voldemort’s ingenious trick and turning the wooden cyclone into a fiery one.

Which left them only one way forward...

A way that neither of them could have carved out for themselves if they had come here alone before going through the changes.

For Dumbledore, it was the change of becoming Lord Black Phoenix.

For Darcie, it was the change of gaining Salazar Slytherin’s Wand.

"Ready?" Dumbledore asked, pointing his wand forward. "We will get only one chance."

Darcie took a deep breath in reply, her green eyes flashing black as she pointed both her wands forward, their tips almost touching each other.

Then, together, the Headmaster and student fired one of the simplest, but also one of the most powerful versions of that spell this world had ever witnessed... yet.

"DIFFINDO!"

The Severing Charm was one of the most basic spells out there, taught in almost all years, and used by everyone.

Darcie couldn’t count on her hand how many times she had used the spell to collect leaves and portions of vines in Herbology classes.

It was simple to learn and simpler to use.

And it did exactly what the caster wanted — cut.

When Lord Black Phoenix and Darcie Malfoy cast the same spell, though, something extraordinary happened.

A great hum rumbled out of them, out of their wands.

It was nowhere near as grand as the rumble that had started all this.

However, unlike the rustling of branches, this low rumble carried the crack of lightning, a venomous hiss, and a fiery cry.

Together, they warped the space.

The magic took form as it left the three wands, as if the space itself had folded, becoming a blade.

And the moment Darcie and Dumbledore gawked at that spatial blade, it vanished out of their sight... shooting forward.

A crunch entered their ears as if someone had cut something using massive scissors.

Instantly, despite the direction the spell had taken, the cyclone of wooden blades was sliced apart into the tiniest of pieces.

In the distance, the same happened to the walls, too.

Wooden splinters rained in Darcie and Dumbledore’s surroundings, the two of them still looking around at the strange, but horrendous and insanely powerful result of their spells, stunned.

"I think..." Dumbledore said, looking forward.

Darcie nodded, looking in the same direction. "... we overdid it."

Because the Gaunt Shack, for which they had come here to begin with, couldn’t be seen anywhere, either.

If it weren’t for the pile of filthy wood in the middle of a finger-sized sea of wooden pieces, then they might have even thought that Voldemort had placed a Portkey-like Charm on the entire Shack.

Letting out a breath and looking at his wand, which wasn’t trembling anymore, Dumbledore walked forward, his every step turning the wooden splinters into powder.

Darcie patted Lilith behind him before following in his footsteps.

As they neared the destroyed Shack, Dumbledore’s eyes burned with black fire, and he waved his wand again.

The entire Shack exploded, making Darcie’s eyes widen.

Then, the tens of thousands of pieces collapsed, arranging themselves in a well-structured manner as if they remembered where they used to be... all these years.

In only moments, the Gaunt Shack stood back in its place.

But, unlike the normal case of repairing something with the Reparo spell, the Shack still carried thin cracks, like scars, Darcie noticed.

With a creak, the door, with a snake nailed to it, opened.

Dumbledore looked back over his shoulder.

Darcie looked up.

Then, nodding, they stepped into the darkness of the Shack.
