Chapter 1097: Ilvermorny’s Successor - The Horcrux Killer!

One week after the depressing, deplorable, and dreadful matter of the Dark Lord killing a Hogwarts Professor, the wizarding world found itself facing another unbelievable and unimaginable piece of news.

Darcie Malfoy — the Dark Princess of Diagon Alley — the fifth-year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry — the pure-blood prodigy — had done the unthinkable.

From the pages of history, she had pulled out a legacy, making it her own.

The Wand of Salazar Slytherin!

And that itself made people question the authenticity of the feat, as many learned individuals knew of the story behind the Snakewood tree at Ilvermorny.

But when the same School of Magic came forward, it washed away all doubts.

With a public statement, Ilvermorny, or, specifically, the Headmistress — Theodore Whitethorn — accomplished many tasks at once.

First, Ilvermorny acknowledged Dumbledore’s earlier claims, accepting the invitation to the Intercontinental Tournament of Magic.

Second, the American School of Magic accepted the matter regarding Salazar Slytherin’s Wand, instantly forcing many high-level wizards and witches to Apparate to Hogwarts to have a closer look at the mythical object.

However, it was the third matter that Headmistress Theodore announced that attracted the most attention, raising eyebrows.

Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry accepted Harry Potter and Darcie Malfoy as students, giving them free access to the School’s tutelage, library, and secrets.

If that were all, it wouldn’t have reached the farthest corners of the world.

Along with accepting the two as students, Headmistress Theodore also declared one more thing — a successor!

Stepping over experience, seniority, and tradition, the clever old witch declared that, after graduating, Darcie Malfoy would immediately become a Professor of Dark Arts at the School and would be the next Headmistress of Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!

And, with that, Headmistress Theodore had gone too far, attracting ire.

First, no matter how much of a prodigy Darcie was, she was but a child. Even if she was in her fifth year at Hogwarts, she was still only thirteen years old, which meant by the time she graduated, she would be fifteen.

Fifteen...

A Professor of a renowned School of Magic, and of a subject as sensitive as the Dark Arts, at the age of fifteen...

As if that wasn’t enough, second, no one could deny that Darcie Malfoy was not as famous among the older generation of the wizarding community as she was among the younger.

It was largely because of the rumors of her having some relation to the Dark Lord.

Then, pouring oil on that fire was the matter of her Magical Suitcase — the dark object that had remained a home for Lord Yellow Warlock for who knew how many years... living, breathing, and scheming right under their noses.

And it was all because of none other than Darcie Malfoy.

If it hadn’t been for her family status, she wouldn’t even have been allowed to possess that Magical Suitcase.

So, yes.

The people in power didn’t want to see Darcie seated at the same table as them, especially when she didn’t have a single gray hair on her head.

It was especially so after the gathering of the most prominent magical forces in Europe under the leadership of Lord Black Phoenix, making the same people feel even more important and indispensable than they had been before.

It was only that... Ilvermorny didn’t care.

Citing their independence from the British Ministry of Magic, Headmistress Theodore didn’t hesitate to go as far as to let the Daily Prophet interview her, openly praising Darcie’s incredible feat of resurrecting Slytherin’s legacy.

Seated in his office, Lord Black Phoenix read that article, his lips curling in obvious amusement.

The door to the office flew open, then.

It was Professor McGonagall.

Even before the Head of Gryffindor House could say a single word, Dumbledore left his chair, seeing the excitement on her face.

"She woke up..." McGonagall declared. "Darcie woke up."

Thrilled, Dumbledore didn’t even bother to walk and directly Apparated to the infirmary.

Black flames crackled in the middle of the infirmary, drawing gasps from Madam Pomfrey.

As Dumbledore walked out of those flames, his dark eyes landed directly on the girl on the bed, her back resting against the bedpost.

"Professor..." Darcie began, pushing herself even straighter.

Dumbledore raised his hand, asking her not to move. "How do you feel?"

"Well, I will tell you how she feels!" Madam Pomfrey intervened brusquely. "She hasn’t even been awake for one minute, and you are already here, Headmaster. I need to make sure that the tree hasn’t inflicted her with any hidden curse or something. A great wizard or not, I refuse to believe Slytherin was any better than all the rest of them when it comes to being selfish... Why would he leave that damned creature at the School, otherwise?"

Dumbledore’s and Darcie’s eyes met, their lips twitching.

They couldn’t blame Madam Pomfrey, though.

The only legacy Salazar Slytherin had left behind for Hogwarts, despite being a founding member, was the Basilisk, which had almost killed many students last year.

"I am fine..." Darcie explained.

"Oh... you are?" Madam Pomfrey asked. Then, she looked at Dumbledore. "Are you going to give her my job now, Headmaster?"

Lord Black Phoenix threw up his hands, realizing his mistake.

In a way, Pomfrey was right. He shouldn’t have let his excitement carry him here instead of giving the girl more time to rest. But... the matter...

"A few words, Madam," Dumbledore begged, humbling himself. "Then I will leave her to you."

Madam Pomfrey drew a deep breath and nodded.

"Alright..." she said, turning around. "I will be back in a few minutes."

Dumbledore walked a few steps closer to Darcie’s bed, smiling, observing the girl.

"Magnificent," he praised. "I had full trust that between you and Harry, one of you would create a miracle. I was not wrong."

Darcie took the praise with a small nod, without blushing.

"Why?" she asked.

"Excuse me?"

Darcie looked at Lord Black Phoenix. "Why is Salazar Slytherin’s Wand so important to you, Professor?"

Dumbledore’s smile flickered.

Then, instantly, it returned, broader than ever.

"So... you realized," he said, shaking his head almost in relief. Then, with a sigh, he drew a deep breath and looked at the brilliant witch again. "Tell me, Darcie...

"... Have you ever heard of... a Horcrux?"
