He made a call by the roadside, and after a while, someone who looked like a waiter emerged from a nearby storefront, carrying stuff in their hand, and stood next to the car, knocking on the window.

Jane Sampson peered outside suspiciously, only to see James Black lower the car window and bring something in from outdoors.
