Chapter 2427: Chapter 2435: After Much Thought

"What did I say? I didn’t say anything!" Peter Gingery quickly grabbed Jane Sampson’s luggage and sprinted into the room.

It was like he was running for his life.

Jane Sampson stood there, feeling both amused and helpless, watching Peter Gingery’s back for a few seconds before walking over to Old Master Black.

"Grandfather." Jane Sampson directly linked arms with Old Master Black, "You look especially energetic. Did you just come back from the cemetery?"

"You’re the smartest, nothing can be hidden from you." Old Master Black chuckled and tapped Jane Sampson’s nose, "I heard you came running back late at night a few days ago to console James Black? You young folks really know how to be romantic."

Jane Sampson stuck out her tongue, thinking Old Master Black was about to start lecturing her, but unexpectedly, he just mentioned it and said no more.

Once the two got inside the door, Peter Gingery handed Jane Sampson a glass of juice, "Aunt just made this, have some."

"In this weather, it’s too cold for girls to drink this." Old Master Black took it and placed it next, "You go and help Jane fetch a bowl of red bean soup from the kitchen, it’s better for girls. Aunt just cooked some."

"Girls really are troublesome." Peter Gingery grumbled but obediently headed into the kitchen.

"If you find girls troublesome, then don’t get married in the future. And if you do get married, don’t have a daughter—just have a boy as annoying as you." Old Master Black tapped his walking stick on the ground a few times in irritation.

After Peter Gingery disappeared from sight, Old Master Black led Jane Sampson to sit on the sofa.

"From what Peter mentioned just now, it seems you all know about those two kids’ situation?" Old Master Black was genuinely a bit surprised, "I thought you and Peter had forgotten about Grandpa Green. My old friend can finally return to the hometown he missed his entire life."

"I had heard my grandfather say before that when Grandpa Green passed away, he regretted not remembering and not being able to return to his roots. Was it my uncle who held the urn when Grandpa Green passed away?" Jane Sampson asked.

"Yes, he was sort of your uncle’s teacher. It’s only right that your uncle saw him off for the last time," Old Master Black said, "Back when we were in the guard team, he looked after me a lot."

"Jane, after thinking it over, I can’t ignore the matters of those two kids. They’re direct descendants of Grandpa Green, who was my old teammate." Old Master Black said with some emotion.

Among the comrades from back in the day, there were plenty who lived even longer than Old Master Black.

If that old friend of his were still alive, by this time, he could have seen his great-grandson.

If in the past Old Green had remarried, maybe those two kids wouldn’t hold such significance in Old Master Black’s heart.

But in the past, Old Green was afraid he’d forget everything, remarry, and perhaps if he had been married and had children, he didn’t want his wife and daughter to wait pointlessly somewhere.

Old Green insisted on being alone until old age because he feared that if he had been married, he would fail his past wives and children. Besides, he was determined to remember someday and return to his hometown to see his relatives.

"It’s a pity that during Grandpa Green’s lifetime, the country’s economy wasn’t flourishing, and transportation wasn’t advanced. At that time, there was no internet, and even phones were a rarity. Everyone was alive, yet couldn’t meet each other." Jane Sampson also felt a sense of regret for Old Green.
