Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Long Time No See
Kenneth Yates picked up his jacket to put it on, but Dominic Thorne stopped him.
"Boss, I’m not drunk. I’m just... Heh. I’m taking off. I’ll drink with you another day. See ya..." Dominic Thorne left the bar just like that, without any real explanation. No one knew what was really on his mind.
Kenneth Yates watched his retreating figure, feeling a sense of resignation. ’He’s clearly a very lonely person, yet he insists on acting like the whole world is just his supporting cast. There’s a saying that rings true for him: if you don’t want to be abandoned, abandon others first. That’s the kind of person he is. He won’t take the initiative to get close to people, afraid of being hurt, afraid of being given the cold shoulder. But once he lets someone in, he’s all in. If he were to pull away now, he’d probably be the one who ends up suffering the most.’
The glasses emptied, one by one, and Kenneth Yates’s mind grew hazy. ’Maybe getting drunk isn’t such a bad idea. At least then I can see Summer Lancaster in my dreams. Summer Lancaster, what are you doing right now?’
A woman in a strapless minidress slowly approached. With fiery red lips, she was the very picture of seduction. Many men tried to hit on her as she walked, but she ignored them all, heading straight for Kenneth Yates and sitting down on the sofa.
"Kenneth, long time no see..." Reina West raised a provocative eyebrow, a seductive smile playing on her lips. She was a world away from the pathetic, suicidal mess she’d been a few months ago; now, she radiated a newfound confidence.
Kenneth Yates looked up, his cold gaze filled with disdain and disgust. He’d seen her earlier but had been wracking his brain trying to place her. ’So it was Reina West.’ Her transformation was significant, but he couldn’t be bothered to care.
"Do I know you?" Kenneth Yates stood up, looking down at her, the contempt at the corners of his mouth unconcealed. He would never again put on a smile for the person who had hurt the woman he loved.
Reina West’s lip twitched. Although she had come fully prepared to face Kenneth Yates, his words were still unexpectedly heartless.
"Kenneth!" Reina West stood and grabbed Kenneth Yates’s arm, but he flung her off.
’Being touched by this disgusting woman just made him feel sick.’
"Kenneth, I know I was immature before. I was wrong, and I’m here to apologize!" Reina West pleaded, her voice trembling on the verge of tears. But Kenneth Yates remained unmoved. He wouldn’t give a second chance to someone who had already wronged him.
"I came looking for you today because of Summer Lancaster," Reina West said, lowering her head. Her face was blank, but her mind was racing with calculations.
Kenneth Yates whipped around and glared at Reina West. "What do you know."
"I—I just want to help her. Don’t be angry. I really do just want to help her," Reina West stammered, taking a step back, completely intimidated by his powerful presence.
"How do you know about her affairs?" A murderous aura began to radiate from Kenneth Yates. He didn’t want anyone to know what was going on with Summer Lancaster. ’So why does an outsider like Reina West know?’
"I—I have a friend in Francelia who works at the hotel you were staying in," Reina West explained frantically, her eyes wide, terrified Kenneth Yates wouldn’t believe her.
Kenneth Yates’s sharp gaze narrowed. He turned away and said coldly, "You don’t need to concern yourself with her. You’d be better off worrying about yourself. Don’t just wait around for the day the West Group falls into the hands of an outsider." Without another word, Kenneth Yates walked out of Vexx, not giving the place a single backward glance.
But behind him, the woman who was shrinking in the distance parted her red lips and smiled...
