Chapter 134: Chapter 134: Frozen
Kenneth Yates wasn’t particularly surprised. In fact, this was exactly what he had expected; he had long since come to understand that Asher’s methods were far from ordinary.
"Hmph. Did you really think any of my friends would be useless? If I’m not mistaken, Ronan Jenkins is the one who gave you that cut on your face." A victorious, confident expression appeared on Kenneth’s face.
"Tch!" Asher scoffed, rising to his feet in a huff and flicking his silver hair. "I just underestimated them. I’ll make them suffer the agony of bitter cold and scorching fire." Asher’s green eyes turned a bloodthirsty red. Kenneth had been watching his eyes closely. ’If the legends are true, then his eyes are the key.’ The green irises had indeed turned red in an instant, with no transition whatsoever.
"Enough nonsense. I’ve brought Heart’s Desire. Where is Summer Lancaster?" Kenneth held out his hand, revealing a sparkling diamond ring. That was Heart’s Desire.
A grin spread across Asher’s face. He walked over to Kenneth and slowly extended his right hand. There, on his ring finger, was the very ring that belonged to Summer Lancaster.
Kenneth lunged for his hand, but Asher snatched it away.
"Where is Summer Lancaster? My patience is limited, and you’ve just run it all out." The tension and urgency in Kenneth’s voice were proof enough of his impatience and fury.
Asher, however, seemed to be in high spirits. "Don’t be so angry. This is just a warm-up. Next, we..."
CLICK!
Kenneth whipped out a pistol from behind his back and aimed it at Asher, whose words died in his throat.
Asher raised both his hands, but his posture betrayed no fear whatsoever. "Does it have to be like this? We’re old friends who haven’t seen each other in years. Is this really how you’re going to treat me?"
"Hmph! I, Kenneth Yates, have no friend like you!" A cold sneer touched his lips as he pulled the trigger. BANG! A scorched mark and a small bullet hole appeared on the wall.
Asher clutched his right arm as blood trickled from his hand. He had dodged to the right at the last second, but he hadn’t expected Kenneth to have also aimed slightly to the right. He could have avoided it, but Kenneth had already seen through his every move.
"Where is Summer Lancaster?!" Kenneth loomed over Asher, who was kneeling on the ground. Asher’s lips had gone pale. ’At the end of the day, he’s only human. He can’t just ignore the power of a bullet. And his composure wasn’t an act, which is why I guessed he’d try to dodge at the last second. Asher’s eyes kept glancing to the right. People give themselves away. If you’re going to dodge in a certain direction, you instinctively look that way first.’
"Hmph. Go find her then. Let’s see if you two are so in love you have a telepathic connection!" Asher showed no sign of weakness, refusing to submit even while gravely injured.
Kenneth holstered his pistol and bolted out the door. ’I have to find Summer!’
Sean Murphy and Ronan Jenkins entered a room. The lights were off, and the switch didn’t work. Just as they were about to head further in, the door slammed shut on its own. SLAM! Sean glanced around nervously, but Ronan paid it no mind and kept walking forward. Just as he neared the bed, ice suddenly began to creep out from its base. They tried to run, but by the time they reached the door, their feet were frozen to the floor. The extreme cold, combined with the pitch-black darkness, became too much for Sean. He crouched on the ground, hugging himself. ’It’s impossible to escape now. All we can do is conserve our strength and wait for the ice to melt.’
