Chapter 129: Chapter 129: You Are Just Blinded by Interests

’If Asher will stop at nothing to get what he wants, then what is all this resistance? Just a futile struggle?’

’Kenneth Yates must have kept this from me because he didn’t want to drag me into it. But this involves both of us. Isn’t it too cruel for him to bear it all alone?’

Summer Lancaster didn’t know how she’d left Eleanor Grant’s room. By the time she came to her senses, she was already in an empty hallway. A sudden fear of the silent, deserted space washed over her, and she quickened her pace toward her own room.

Summer Lancaster felt a persistent sensation of being watched from behind, but when she turned to look, there was nothing. She shook her head. ’I must be too sensitive.’ Yet, the moment she faced forward again, everything went pitch-black. Panicked, she steadied herself against the wall. ’The lights went out,’ she realized with a jolt. ’I’m not blind.’

Trembling, Summer Lancaster continued forward, relying on instinct to guide her toward her room. But the hallway seemed to stretch on forever, and no matter how far she walked, she never seemed to get any closer.

A cold breeze brushed past her from behind. Summer Lancaster whirled around to see a pair of blood-red eyes staring back at her.

"Aaaah—!"

Summer Lancaster collapsed. When Kenneth Yates rushed over at the sound of her scream, everything had returned to a state of calm. The only things left on the floor were a few gleaming silver hairs.

"Damn it!" Kenneth Yates snatched the hairs from the floor and furiously punched the wall. Blood immediately trickled down his knuckles. He had been following Summer Lancaster the whole time, but someone had used that brief moment of darkness to whisk her away.

When Summer Lancaster awoke, she found herself on a black bed. All the surrounding furniture was also black, giving off a demonic aura. She got up, pulled aside the curtains, and gazed out at a sight she had never seen before. She was at the summit of a mountain. Looking down, she could see no bottom, and the view, wreathed in mist, struck fear into her heart.

Suddenly, the door creaked open, and a man with silver hair walked in. He wore the same dangerous smile, the same scornful expression.

"Not surprised? It seems you already figured it out." Asher didn’t come closer to Summer Lancaster. Instead, he leaned against the doorframe, as far away from her as he could be.

Summer Lancaster turned to face Asher and sat on the bed, trying to appear unfazed. "Yes, I know. But that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want." She did her best to conceal her anxiety, but her hands trembled uncontrollably.

Asher laughed and began to walk toward Summer Lancaster. "You are in my hands now. Do you really think I can’t do whatever I want?"

"He will come for me! He definitely will!" The conviction in Summer Lancaster’s eyes unsettled Asher. He despised that look on humans, that expression of absolute faith as if they could never betray anyone. In the end, it all just ended up buried with them. ’Everyone betrays,’ he thought. ’Including me.’

"We’ll see if he loves you more, or if he loves his Heart’s Desire more. I don’t believe in this worldly love. One day, he’ll leave you, and I will be right here, quietly watching as you destroy each other." Asher moved to the window, gazing out at the ethereal, wonderland-like view.

"You’re wrong. He loves me, and I trust him. The Heart’s Desire, and everything else—he did it all for me. So how can you even question whether he loves me or the Heart’s Desire? The Heart’s Desire represents our love. I believe you’re inherently good. You’ve just let ambition blind you to what’s real in this world." Summer Lancaster stood up, her voice firm as she rebutted his claims.

Asher spun around and violently raised his hand.
