Chapter 712: Chapter 477 Advantage_2
Brother! Rest assured, no matter what, I will bring you to that water Platform over there, but could you, on the basis of the long distance I’ve traveled to pick you up, clearly tell me whether the boat beneath you just now was your Companion Spiritual Treasure or just an ordinary boat?"
Zachary looked at Charles, who seemed quite sincere, and he did not feel any feedback from the Divine Sense indicating the latter was lying. Besides, such matters couldn’t be hidden for long, so he didn’t conceal the truth and spoke quite freely:
"Indeed, that boat is my Companion Spiritual Treasure. You were not mistaken. The material of the boat’s hull has been upgraded. After all, even before the catastrophe, have you ever seen anyone’s pleasure craft made entirely of Jade?"
Let’s not even discuss whether those ordinary pieces of jade would sink in water. Just to obtain such a large piece of whole jade, even if the jade material is common, it would basically be impossible before the disaster.
I am baffled, if it were just a common wooden or metal boat, your doubt would be justifiable since you could often see such boats before the disaster.
But think about it, from before the disaster until now, let alone seeing it with your own eyes, even rumors of ships made of pure jade, I reckon you’ve never heard of them. I really don’t know why you would harbor doubts."
In response to Zachary’s counter-question, Charles did not say much, only summoned his Companion Spiritual Treasure to the surface of the water, and then collected it back into the Sea of Consciousness.
After watching the entire process, even before Charles could elaborate further, Zachary understood the reason for Charles’s suspicion.
It turns out, the process of summoning and retracting Companion Spiritual Treasures for other people was completely different from Zachary’s.
When Zachary summoned his Companion Spiritual Treasure, it would appear instantly in the area he wanted it to appear, and when he retracted it, the Treasure would vanish from its original spot in an instant.
However, Charles’s process of summoning and retracting his Companion Spiritual Treasure was completely different from Zachary’s. When Charles summoned it, a small but faintly visible light spot would emerge from his forehead.
Once this light spot reached the appointed location, it would rapidly enlarge. When the light dispersed, the Companion Spiritual Treasure would appear in that spot.
The process of retracting the Companion Spiritual Treasure back into the Sea of Consciousness was essentially the reverse of the previous one. The Treasure would swiftly shrink into a light spot and then directly rush into Charles’s forehead.
Although Charles’s process of summoning and retracting his Companion Spiritual Treasure was very fast, it still took a little under ten seconds.
Yet, for Zachary, summoning and retracting his Companion Spiritual Treasure was a matter of a mere thought, with no hints or signs, which is why Charles felt confused and thought Zachary had used a storage device.
Having figured out the source of Charles’s confusion, Zachary in turn asked, slightly puzzled, "Is it the same for others? Is the summoning and retracting process so obvious?"
"Of course, otherwise I wouldn’t have been so surprised a moment ago. That instant summoning and retracting ability of your Companion Spiritual Treasure, is it something that came after evolving the hull material to jade? When it was still made of wood, was it like what I just did?"
Seeing Charles’s smug expression, as if he had provided a seemingly reasonable explanation, Zachary didn’t think too much of it and immediately nodded in agreement: "I’m not too sure about this. I usually don’t pay attention to these things. It could be, I really hadn’t noticed before."
Although he verbally responded that he hadn’t paid attention to such matters before and hence had no recollection, Zachary was very clear that ever since he obtained his Companion Spiritual Treasure, the summoning and retracting had always been the same, without any noticeable trajectory.
However, it did not take long for Zachary to suddenly realize; could that trajectory from the forehead serve as a positioning function? Perhaps it was a superfluous action for others who did not possess Divine Sense.
Under normal circumstances, like Zachary, who had Divine Sense, the process of summoning and retracting Companion Spiritual Treasures should be the same as his.
Only now on Blue Star, Zachary might be the only person possessing Divine Sense, so what was normally an ordinary manifestation has become an anomaly within Blue Star.
Hearing Dong Tianyu’s vague response, Charles didn’t mind too much; though he did feel some envy that Dong could instantly summon and dismiss his Companion Spiritual Treasure, it was just a bit of envy, nothing more.
If given the chance to evolve the material of his Companion Spiritual Treasure, he definitely wouldn’t choose to alter his ship’s hull to jade just for the ability to instantly summon and dismiss the treasure.
Although Charles didn’t agree with Dong’s choice, he still greatly admired him deep down. After all, he had read the files; those who emerged from the Bloody Mysterious Realm had done so by climbing over mountains of corpses and seas of blood to achieve ultimate victory.
Charles was very self-aware. Whatever choices others made, there must be their own considerations. Their experiences differed from his, so he respected that other people’s choices were based on considerations different from his own.
As the two chatted, the speedboat was already approaching the Platform; it didn’t stop, but directly entered the Inner Harbor of the Platform.
Upon reaching the Inner Harbor dock, Charles took Dong Tianyu directly to the elevator, leading him to the Platform’s registration area.
Side by side, Charles explained to Dong as they walked, "Although it was named ’Platform’ when it was built, we prefer to call it the ’Base on the Water.’
To be honest with you, while our base may not have as many high-end supplies and precision equipment as Bases One and Two, I can guarantee that in terms of basic supplies, our base has the largest reserves."
"Originally, the Magic City plan was to build four Platforms. According to the original plan, the supplies should have been distributed evenly among the four Platforms, but due to some reasons, the construction of Platform One was delayed."
"Then, for some unmentionable reasons, some precision instruments and high-end supplies were preloaded onto Platform One, although Platform Two received supplies as planned.
"But most of the good stuff had already been taken by Platform One. By the time our base was completed, there wasn’t much of the higher-end supplies left in the Magic City’s main warehouse."
"However, our boss was pretty assertive. During the supplies loading he said, ’If someone can handle the first day, then don’t blame us for going all out on the fifteenth.’ So, when it came our turn to load supplies, we didn’t follow the plan at all."
"Even though we didn’t yet know that the construction of Platform Four would not be possible, we still managed to empty the supply warehouse."
"Our boss, Felicia, said that she feared the flood could come at any moment, so she decided to move those supplies to a safe place beforehand. Once Platform Four was completed, we’d share the preloaded supplies with it."
"In the end, the flood came before Platform Four could be built, so it’s no exaggeration to say that our base’s supply reserves are at least twice as much as those of the other bases."
"After all, Platform One, when they grabbed the high-end supplies, gave up some of the basic supplies. Moreover, when the initial distribution plan was formulated, a certain reserve was also set aside."
"Our boss led us to clean out the entire warehouse. It’s a good thing we did that, otherwise, those supplies would have definitely been drowned by the flood. If that had happened, wouldn’t all of those supplies have been wasted?" Charles finished with a proud look on his face. Then, seeing no one else around, he spoke to Dong in a lower voice, "Actually, I feel pretty good about the three Platforms of Magic City drifting apart independently.
"Don’t laugh but personally, I think basic supplies are the quickest to run out in a base. If we moved together with the other platforms, and Platform One were to run out of basic supplies, wouldn’t they turn to us, the ’rich’ base, for support?
"Since they could hog all the high-end supplies by being the first completed, they would definitely have the gall to turn to us for help once they start to run low on their basic supplies.
"We’re all on the same side after all. If we were close by, we couldn’t just stand by and watch them die, as long as they could swallow their pride and ask for help."
"But if we’re separated, and there’s distance between us, by the time they come to ask for our help, the power would be in our hands."
