Chapter 697: Sorrowful father’s idea
The details of what happened next weren’t necessary for Ye Liuyun to elaborate; Dong Tianyu could more or less guess the entire process of the incident.
It all boiled down to the exposure of Gordon’s theft of the Mysterious Core. Subsequently, others seized this opportunity to strip Ye Liuyun of his authority to oversee the supplies. Due to the loss of his power, Master Ye, along with Mr. Thompson, was conveniently kicked out of the inner circle of power and became idle personnel.
"What’s become of Gordon now?" Dong Tianyu was somewhat interested in Gordon’s fate, but what Ye Liuyun replied took Dong Tianyu by surprise.
"That damned guy, after he stole all the Mysterious Cores, knew that it would definitely come to light, so after the theft, he didn’t care about the fate of others and just fled with three of his subordinates from the ship."
Hearing Ye Liuyun’s response, Dong Tianyu mused to himself, "First time using the Mysterious Core to obtain the Companion Spiritual Treasure, a small wooden raft, and then using the Mysterious Core to upgrade the raft’s level, expanding its area.
If it weren’t for the wooden raft awakened by the Mysterious Core, I reckon Gordon wouldn’t have torn off his facade to steal and escape."
In response to Dong Tianyu’s soliloquy, Ye Liuyun, although somewhat in agreement internally, spoke through gritted teeth, "That guy is just a trap waiting to happen. Doesn’t he think, although everyone’s awakened rafts have the property of unsinkability upon contact with water,
but how could one survive for a long time on the water with just a raft? In the end, one still needs to rely on others.
Even if he used up all the Mysterious Cores by himself, he would only get an empty hull without any other equipment on board. He didn’t think about how he was going to live in the future.
There’s no need to say more about the other things, Master Ye has already spread the news through various channels. Tell me, how can Gordon face people in the future? No one would want to deal with a betrayer like him. He really has cut off his own escape route."
Regarding Ye Liuyun’s words that Gordon had put himself in a dead end, Dong Tianyu didn’t entirely agree, but he didn’t voice any opposition either.
The two chatted while eating, and perhaps because the matter with Gordon had caused him considerable stress, and since he couldn’t share his feelings with those on the ship, he found a suitable listener once Dong Tianyu arrived. Ye Liuyun poured out his frustrating experiences of the recent past, eventually drinking himself into a stupor.
After helping Ye Liuyun onto his own ship, Dong Tianyu left Ye Liuyun’s side.
Upon using Divine Sense and discovering Mrs. Thompson was still in her original room, Dong Tianyu’s previously anxious heart relaxed considerably.
When Mrs. Thompson heard a knock on the door, she looked puzzled, wondering who could possibly be looking for her at such a late hour.
Upon opening the door, she saw Dong Tianyu standing outside and her face instantly showed surprised joy. She then immediately pulled Dong Tianyu into the room, examining her beloved child whom she had carried for ten months, observing his vigorous and healthy appearance, the uneasiness in her heart gradually dissipated.
"Zachary, how have you been out there? I heard there have been a lot of Mysterious Ships appearing. Have you encountered any? Have you been hurt?"
"Mom, I’m fine. You know how strong your son is. Those Mysterious Ships pose no danger to me. By the way, where’s dad? Why hasn’t he come back this late?"
Dong Tianyu, not wanting his mother to worry too much, deliberately steered the conversation toward Mr. Thompson.
"Your dad went out to play cards. He apparently quit his job on the ship and has completely freed up his schedule.
Now there’s not much to do on the ship, so ever since your dad was free, he’s been playing cards every day. I really don’t understand his obsession with cards, playing non-stop every day until eleven or twelve at night."
Instead of commenting on his mother’s complaints, Dong Tianyu remained quiet. After all, he had a general idea about his father’s current situation on the ship from Ye Liuyun’s outpouring earlier.
As Dong Tianyu and Mrs. Thompson were catching up, Mr. Thompson came in through the door. When he saw Dong Tianyu sitting next to Mrs. Thompson, his expression remained unchanged, yet the subtle upturn at the corners of his mouth betrayed his inner joy.
"Zachary, did you come back for any particular reason?"
"Nothing much. I just came back to see how you two are doing and to find out if the house is lacking anything."
....
After they had nearly finished chatting about family matters, Mr. Thompson suggested Mrs. Thompson go to rest before he broached the subject with Ye Liuyun: "After entering those Mysterious Ships, what kind of dangers might one encounter?"
Upon hearing Mr. Thompson’s question, Dong Tianyu immediately countered, "Dad, why are you asking this? No matter how dangerous it is, that’s not a place for someone your age."
His warning only seemed to discontent Mr. Thompson, who retorted, "What do you mean ’not a place for someone my age’? Ever since you taught your mom and me to cultivate, we’ve both been practicing every day. Even though we don’t usually engage in physical confrontations, neither your mom nor I are helpless.
Seeing Dong Tianyu’s undisturbed gaze, Mr. Thompson knew he had to explain things clearly or his son would not let it go.
He sighed and then shared the reason for his inquiry.
It turned out that Mr. Thompson’s query wasn’t for himself, but for Robinson William.
Even though both Master Ye and Mr. Thompson, as well as Ye Liuyun, had been relieved of their duties on the ship, Robinson William had still been appointed as deputy captain of the newly formed Guard Squad.
