Chapter 656: Chapter 450 Difficulties and Overcoming Difficulties
After hearing what Gordon had said, Dong Tianyu was not surprised, as he had already heard about Yara’s choice from Ye Liuyun, and the fact that Franklin’s hometown was by the sea in Magic City, and that his family had the necessary resources, was not unexpected.
Nevertheless, Dong Tianyu was still curious and asked Gordon, "Why don’t you go find Franklin?"
"If I really went to find Franklin, it would be better to just return to my hometown. After all, living at someone else’s mercy is less preferable to staying under the protection of my own family. No matter what, they are my blood relatives, and they would at least ensure my basic livelihood. To stay with outsiders, especially aboard the ships of big families, I can’t guarantee what might happen," Gordon replied.
Hearing Gordon’s words, Dong Tianyu instantly thought of some things and then suggested, "Actually, I’ve been wondering, isn’t there a market selling boats outside the city? Why doesn’t Ye Liuyun go there to find a suitable purchase?"
After Dong Tianyu asked this question, Gordon hesitated for a moment before answering, "Actually, I’ve asked Ye Liuyun about this, and Ye Liuyun vaguely told me that the boats for sale in that market all basically have trackers. It’s fine normally, but once a disaster strikes, those boats would become live targets at sea, with every move monitored."
Upon hearing Gordon’s explanation, Dong Tianyu also realized this was like the mortgaged cars before the disaster. As soon as you bought one, and left the dealership, it would not be long before it was located and towed away by others.
Yet, before the disaster, they only wanted the car, but after the disaster, what they’d be after could be your life.
Lately, Dong Tianyu asked Gordon some more questions, and after understanding the situation, Gordon stood up and took his leave.
In reality, no matter how much the two of them talked now, it didn’t have much practical significance. The most critical thing now was for Ye Liuyun to secure a boat, and then they could start discussing the next steps of their plan.
After Gordon had left, Dong Tianyu didn’t wait for Ye Liuyun to return but instead was met with three days of torrential rain in a row.
Although Kyoto, reconstructed after the earthquake, didn’t suffer another flood, the torrential rain served as a reminder to everyone. Even many ordinary people began to sense the abnormality of the weather and started quietly stockpiling food. No one had anticipated that just because of a rainstorm, the price of grain in Kyoto would more than double.
It was before Ye Liuyun came to find Dong Tianyu that his life remained leisurely.
Seeing Ye Liuyun’s exhausted face, Dong Tianyu casually took out a bottle of chilled Coke from the fridge and handed it to Ye Liuyun.
Instead of putting on airs and politely refusing the Coke Dong Tianyu handed him, Ye Liuyun took it briskly, opened the cap, and drank the entire bottle in one gulp, then let out a satisfied burp.
After burping, Ye Liuyun said contentedly to Dong Tianyu, "You really get me. I’ve always had a taste for this, but nowadays, getting a Coke is a bit troublesome."
Dong Tianyu didn’t respond to Ye Liuyun’s comment. Seeing Dong Tianyu’s indifference, Ye Liuyun spoke in a slightly annoyed tone, "After what I said, you won’t even get me another bottle? Are we brothers or not?"
"Should I chop you because we’re brothers?" Dong Tianyu retorted.
Hearing Dong Tianyu’s comeback, Ye Liuyun fired back, "What era are you living in, still playing with that old meme."
Alright, no more joking around, let’s talk serious business. I’ve checked out the boat, and there’s a big problem. First of all, the power system is completely damaged, and fixing it would be quite troublesome.
Another issue is that the boat was originally stuck in a marsh, and then during the earthquake, it became embedded in the ground. Now there’s a very critical problem: if a flood comes, the buoyancy of the water might not be enough to lift the boat out of the mud, leaving us with no way out.
Also, loosening the mud under the hull in advance is not an option. The boat has a narrow bottom and wide top, and if we loosen the soil now, it’s very likely that the boat will tilt due to the lack of sufficient support.
This boat isn’t a bicycle that we can just pick up from the side if it tips over. If it does tip, we might indeed end up with nothing to show for our efforts.
Beyond the problems with the boat itself, there are several other issues, starting with supplies.
After estimating, the distance from the deck to the ground is less than twenty meters. Though hauling supplies up is a bit of a hassle, it’s still surmountable.
But the key issue is, the location of that boat is quite remote, and we don’t know exactly when the flood disaster will strike. If we go there now to wait, we don’t know if the next disaster will be a flood, and if we wait until the flood arrives to head there, I’m not sure if we can make it in time."
Listening to the problems Ye Liuyun had pointed out, Dong Tianyu just listened silently, showing no intention to speak.
Ye Liuyun opened another bottle of Coke, this time not rushing to finish it all at once, but just taking a sip to moisten his throat before continuing,
"I’ve thought it over a bit, and the power issue isn’t actually that important for us. First of all, we’re not likely to get enough fuel, and secondly, I’ve found out that repairing the power system would require a lot of electronic components.
I’ve thought about it, and what we really need from this boat is just a space that can ensure our survival. Whether the boat can navigate normally isn’t that important. It would be best if it can move, but it’s fine if it cannot."
