Chapter 651: Chapter 447: True Cause of Death_2
Who would have thought that as soon as Zachary opened his Divine Sense, he found the corpse of a rooster, gutted open, not far from where the group of people had just lingered.
In this godforsaken place, the sight of the rooster’s body must have been brought by that group of people. However, Zachary couldn’t figure out why they would bring poultry with them, let alone so blatantly abandon the three animal corpses here.
Everyone knew that at this time, resources were quite scarce, so under normal circumstances, no one would waste food, especially such obvious meat.
Yet those people seemed indifferent to the poultry corpses. There weren’t many reasons for this outcome. One possibility was that they left in a hurry and didn’t have time to clean up. However, Zachary had watched them leave and they didn’t seem to be in an urgent need to move.
The other possibility was that there was something wrong with these items that they couldn’t deal with. For instance, if meat products were abandoned, it was likely because they thought they truly couldn’t be eaten. Otherwise, even Zachary wasn’t at the point of wasting resources needlessly.
Zachary approached the gutted rooster and immediately saw its heart, which had been tossed nearby, cooked. Seeing the heart but the rest of the body intact, he instantly guessed the reason the others had left.
He then swiftly cut open the corpses of the duck and goose and pulled out their hearts.
Seeing that the hearts of both the duck and the goose had also been cooked, Zachary had a rough idea why the people had departed.
Refusing to accept this mystery, Zachary took out a live chicken from the Cave and, using the Art of Controlling Objects, slowly moved the chicken toward the location of the transportation portal.
Unlike the rooster that had been controlled, because Zachary was only levitating the chicken’s body with the Art of Controlling Objects, the chicken struggled wildly at first. But as it realized it wasn’t being hurt, it gradually calmed down.
However, as the live chicken drew nearer to the transportation portal, it began to get restless. As Zachary continued to move it toward the portal, the chicken started to struggle violently without warning.
But since a part of its body was controlled by the Art of Controlling Objects, no matter how much it struggled, the chicken was still inching closer to the area of the transportation portal.
It didn’t take long before the chicken stopped struggling altogether and became paralyzed, moving forward only with the support of the Art of Controlling Objects.
Seeing this, Zachary promptly pulled the chicken back and dissected it to locate its heart. As he suspected, the heart had indeed become cooked.
Just like the abandoned rooster on the ground, there was no damage to the chicken’s body other than where the heart was.
After confirming this, Zachary took out a pure metal ball from the Cave and sent it with the Art of Controlling Objects to the spot where the chicken had died.
Once the metal ball was in position, Zachary noticed no change to it. Consequently, he used the Art of Controlling Objects to forcefully push the metal ball towards the area of the transportation portal.
As the metal ball got closer to the portal, Zachary noticed that the air around the metal ball started to distort. Normally, such space distortion occurs when an object becomes overheated, making it visible to others as the space surrounding the object distorts.
To confirm this theory, Zachary took out an ice cube from his Storage Space and threw it towards the location of the metal ball.
When the ice cube hit the surface of the metal ball, the collision instantly produced a sizzling sound, like cold oil poured onto a hot pan.
Seeing this, Zachary realized his guess was correct. It seemed that the area around the transportation portal had been manipulated by "It" on the other side, or else until now, no mechanical creature would have crossed through the portal to their side.
Faced with this situation, Zachary was as helpless as the others. Although he wasn’t sure if a Magic Artifact could counteract this state, he didn’t have the desire to test it out.
After all, even if he had found a way to crack the code, those mechanical creatures were of no use to him.
Zachary collected the four poultry carcasses from the ground and placed them into his Cave, where they were disintegrated, slightly increasing his upgrade progress, but no other gains.
Just as Zachary was using the Art of Controlling Objects to retrieve the metal sphere, a dazzling light suddenly shot from within the door, directly hitting and shattering the metal sphere into pieces.
Seeing this, Zachary broke out in a cold sweat, for he had actually intended to check it out himself, but after that incident, he knew there was something on the other side of the teleportation portal watching this side all along.
Realizing this, Zachary suddenly felt a chill of fear. Although he felt that the sudden ambush might not have been lethal, an injury was inevitable.
Looking at the metal sphere now reduced to scraps, Zachary turned and left the area, feeling very fortunate.
No sooner had he returned to Kyoto City than his communication device at his waist rang. Zachary didn’t bother to see who was calling and casually pressed the answer button, only to hear Ye Liuyun’s voice on the other end:
"Brother, where have you been? Ringing your doorbell was useless, calling you was no use, now I’m waiting in your yard, hurry over!"
Although the walls around Zachary’s yard were over two meters high, even for a Martial Artist in the Body Tempering Realm, scaling them was a breeze, so now the walls served merely as a boundary marker indicating ownership of the area.
Zachary had installed a doorbell that rang in the living room on the outer gate, but most of the people who came looking for him either climbed over the wall or called him directly; few waited at the doorbell.
Since Ye Liuyun knew he wasn’t home, as soon as Zachary entered the suburbs of Kyoto, he took out the Black Car from his Storage space and drove home.
By the time Zachary parked the Black Car in the yard, Ye Liuyun was already standing by the car waiting for his return.
Seeing Ye Liuyun’s actions, Zachary, somewhat puzzled, asked, "What’s this about now?"
Hearing this, Ye Liuyun’s smile widened as he said, "Nothing big, just wanted to buy some stuff from you."
Hearing Ye Liuyun say this, Zachary didn’t pay it much mind, as they had traded not once or twice, so he casually asked, "What do you want?"
Hearing Zachary’s question, Ye Liuyun immediately replied, "I want to buy a batch of metal, but the quantity is somewhat large, I don’t know if you can..."
Listening to Ye Liuyun’s trailing voice, Zachary frowned and then asked, "Why did you think of buying these things from me, you know I have always been collecting them."
Hearing this, Ye Liuyun’s expression changed, a look of helplessness on his face as he said, "We’ve traded so many times, how could I not know? But I had no choice, I just couldn’t find any other sellers, so in the end I had to come here."
Seeing Ye Liuyun’s expression, Zachary suddenly became curious and asked, "Would you mind telling me what you want the metals for?"
Hearing Zachary’s inquiry, Ye Liuyun didn’t hold back and promptly revealed the reason.
It turned out that after buying the ham as a gift last time, although Ye Liuyun did not get a clear response from the recipient, the gift had struck the right chord, so the recipient expressed some goodwill, revealing to Ye Liuyun some rather secretive information.
Firstly, the Prophet’s words were indeed true, and the credibility was very high. Although the recipient was the beneficiary, someone of his standing wouldn’t need to use deception to get ham.
