Chapter 610: Chapter 427 Airborne Vehicle
Having just eliminated that group of skeletons, Wesson observed the color of the Soul Flame in each skull’s eye sockets as he absorbed it, carefully recording the information.
Once Wesson had absorbed all the Soul Flames from the bound skulls, he confirmed that most of the absorbed flames were white, with only a small portion being Green Soul Fires, and no higher-level Soul Flames were discovered.
Based on the information reported by Wesson, the staff at Command Headquarters quickly deduced that the fog must be controlled by higher-level skeletons and therefore, there must still be higher-level skeletons within the fog.
As for the patch of ground fog, Zachary could now see it very clearly; although there weren’t just one or two skeletons left in the fog, only about three to five remained.
Among them, a robust skeleton, whose eye sockets were filled with Red Soul Fire, clearly commanded the other skeletons gathered around it, without the need for further explanation.
Originally, there were quite a few skeletons encircling it, making it inconvenient for Zachary to act. But now that those skeletons had been taken care of by the Sharp Blade Team, Zachary was ready to take the initiative to strike.
Since Zachary had already locked onto his target with Divine Sense, even though they were at a considerable distance, he could still easily hit his target with his Flying Swords.
Perhaps reminded by Wesson’s earlier combat style, Zachary’s approach was swift and decisive: he used his Flying Swords to sever the neck of the skeleton and then controlled the swords to bring the severed skull to his side.
Initially, Zachary didn’t go for the strongest skeleton in the fog but chose a skeleton with Green Soul Fire to practice on.
Slash,
Lift,
Retrieve,
The entire process was as smooth and fluid as drifting clouds or flowing water. Upon receiving the skull carried back by the Flying Swords, Zachary casually tossed it into the Cave. As usual, any potential Origin Energy for upgrades was stored, and the Undead’s energy was sent into a separate space.
After practicing on the other skeletons in the fog and eliminating them, Zachary finally targeted the skeleton with Red Soul Fire using his Flying Swords.
Just as in the practice, even though the red skeleton’s bones were much harder than any other skeletons that had appeared, they couldn’t withstand Zachary’s Flying Swords, which cut cleanly through the neck.
Zachary casually fiddled with the skull brought back by the Flying Sword, musing to himself, "They’re all skeletons, so why does the Soul Flame in their eye sockets change colors?"
Having said this, he didn’t pay attention to the ground fog dissipating but directly tossed the skull into the Cave, only to receive somewhat unsatisfactory feedback from the decomposition process.
It was known whether it was skeletons with white Soul Flames, green ones, or the one with the Red Soul Flame just now, the materials gained from decomposition were basically the same, with not much difference in quantities either.
Zachary was not very satisfied with such a yield. After all, the skeletons with Red Soul Fire were exceedingly rare and possessed special abilities. Their combat strength was perhaps tens of times higher than that of ordinary skeletons, yet the results from absorbing and decomposing them seemed too little.
Zachary wondered if the meager gains were because he absorbed a single skull’s energy, so while he was preparing to collect the remaining skeletal frames on the ground into the Cave, the fog on the ground began to dissipate rapidly following the death of the Red Soul Fire skeleton.
By the time Zachary realized what was happening and tried to collect the skeletal frames from the ground into the Cave, the fog had completely cleared. At this point, it wasn’t easy for Zachary to collect the skeletons in front of others.
Seeing the fog disperse, Wesson immediately led the Sharp Blade Team to the scene. Surveying the few headless skeletons lying scattered on the ground, Wesson frowned, then moved to one of the skeletons to conduct an examination.
While inspecting, he reported the situation to his superiors via earpiece, "The fog suddenly vanished just now... I’ve conducted a preliminary examination of the headless skeletons on the ground. The break in the cervical spine is smooth and even, suggesting they were likely severed by a sharp blade. The others appear to have been treated the same.
I surmise that someone else entered the fog with a sharp weapon and killed the skeletons without us noticing.
Moreover, that person seems to be aware of the role of Soul Flamel; thus, after killing the skeletons, they took all the skulls with them."
Hearing Wesson’s report, Command Headquarters immediately reviewed the footage from the four drones in the vicinity, hoping to find the interloper who unexpectedly joined the fray through the drone cameras.
Although the drones weren’t specifically recording the area where the fog was located at the time because they had been set to patrol and warn, they were always in patrol mode. However, no matter how many times they replayed the footage, they couldn’t find any trace of anyone else in the recordings.
Seeing this, someone speculated, "Could it be that the person has awakened some kind of invisibility power that doesn’t just camouflage optically, but can also conceal their heat signature and the sound of their movements? They might even be able to render their weapon invisible along with themselves."
