Chapter 573: Chapter 410 Preparing to Return

On Blue Star, the only items in significant stock that could help Cave improve were various energy mineral deposits and marvels; the remaining items beneficial to the upgrade of Cave were extremely rare, some even one-of-a-kind.

At home resting, Dong Tianyu seemed to have forgotten about those Bug Race rulers he had encountered in the Cavern, who had taken control of the human survivors.

Dong Tianyu forgot that every natural disaster had a time limit, and the current Bug calamity was no exception. It might look like the Bug Race opened spatial gateways from time to time, delivering tens of thousands of their kind to Blue Star, but for the Bug Race on the other end of the gateway, it might have been just about ten minutes’ worth of rapid troop production.

In the previous battles between humans and the Bug Race, besides a few special cities, other cities either perished in the Bug onslaught or repelled the assaults time after time.

But they overlooked one thing, despite the many waves of Bug onslaughts against the cities and the multitudes of Bugs they killed, they hadn’t taken down a single Brain Bug that had come to Earth. It’s important to note whether they were the cannon fodder Soldier Bugs, the Bug Race’s main force Tank Bugs, or even the long-range deterrence force of the Plasma Bugs.

In so many battles, the humans certainly killed a significant number, even sending the Beheading Squad to quickly eliminate the Plasma Bugs as soon as they appeared.

Yet from start to finish, not to mention killing a Brain Bug, the humans hadn’t even caught a glimpse of one.

So, although the Bug disaster was about to end, just like the last resurgence of ancient creatures, the ancient creatures that didn’t die didn’t just disappear but instead gained the capacity to reproduce and survive.

The Bug Race left on Blue Star was actually the same; during the disaster, ancient creatures would continually respawn like in a game after death, whereas the Bug Race would keep opening spatial gateways during the disaster to send reinforcements from their controlled worlds.

And once the disaster was over, even though the Bugs could no longer receive reinforcements from their dimensional plane, just like the ancient creatures, they too gained the ability to breed new offspring.

Not only that, due to the presence of the Brain Bugs, the Bug Race understood how to live better than the ancient creatures did.

In the forests now, ancient creatures lived above ground, while the underground Caverns were occupied by the Bug Race.

Of course, the relationship between the ancient creatures and the Bug Race wasn’t friendly; although they both harbored hostility towards humans, in the absence of a third party, the relationship between ancient creatures and the Bug Race was also one of relentless enmity.

The swarm that was originally preparing to attack Kyoto became somewhat chaotic the instant the disaster ended.

Kyoto’s Command Post detected this situation through high-altitude reconnaissance, but before Kyoto had a chance to respond, the slight disturbance rapidly vanished, and then the Bugs began to orderly burrow into the nearby Caverns.

Watching the countless numbers of Bugs, indiscernible in their vastness, all burrow underground and disappear in less than an hour was baffling.

Although the crisis of the Bug wave attacking the city was averted, the faces of those in the Command Post were not looking good, because if the Bug wave had attacked the city, that would have been an outright assault, something they were already prepared for. While casualties were certain in battle, all that was within their planning.

But now, the multitude of Bugs that had gathered together had all burrowed underground, and although the crisis of the Bug wave’s city assault was ostensibly over, they would have to be vigilant against Bug waves appearing from now on.

As the old saying goes, "One can play the thief for a thousand days, but one cannot guard against the thief for a thousand days." Those Bugs have only temporarily burrowed underground, not vanished entirely; therefore, the danger remains, and Kyoto thus needs to dedicate some resources specifically to monitor this situation.

To reduce the pressure, Kyoto also began to learn from other cities, vigorously promoting the Hunting Team by hanging up tasks that are long-term effective against the Bug Race. With just some expenditure of wealth, they could harness the power of the civilians to weaken the Bug Race.

Lying at home resting, Dong Tianyu was unaware of the arrangements made by Kyoto’s Command Headquarters. It was only when he happened to see in the Data Layout that the Bug disaster had ended, did Dong Tianyu realize, to his surprise, that the disaster had concluded.

Dong Tianyu wasn’t too clear about other cities, but having moved to Kyoto and having experienced the Bug disaster, he truly understood the difference between a large city and a small city.

In a small city, just a bit of commotion during a natural disaster could stir up a storm, whereas in Kyoto, despite the recurrent offensives of the Bug waves, the survivors living in the City Center had hardly noticed any problems.

The danger posed by the Bug Race had been thwarted by the Imperial Court on the outskirts of the city. Despite the intense battles on the front lines, those ordinary survivors living in the City Center were oblivious to the events.

This experience made Dong Tianyu once again consider bringing his parents over to live here, but if he were to bring his parents, the troubles that would follow could become greater.

As the old saying goes, "One lie requires countless more lies to cover it up."

Dong Tianyu’s situation was just like this; after all, initially, to stop his parents’ nagging, Dong Tianyu had used Walker Violet as a pretext, deceiving his parents that he had found a girlfriend; later on, he even claimed he had already begun trying for a baby with Walker Violet.
