Chapter 564: Chapter 405 Flying Swords Slash Bugs_2

The Cave also had means to kill those Plasma Bugs, but using such things to kill the Plasma Bugs would be akin to cracking a nut with a sledgehammer.

Take the simplest example, the car that Gavin and his group left behind when they departed. Gritting one’s teeth and hardening one’s heart, it could actually be repurposed as a throwing weapon. Dropped from the sky, it would likely inflict substantial damage if it hit a Plasma Bug resting on the ground.

However, after smashing not even a handful of Plasma Bugs, the car would probably fall to pieces, so it’s not that Dong Tianyu lacked things that could be used as weapons. It’s just that it felt too extravagant to use those things as weapons, and Dong Tianyu was somewhat reluctant to do so.

As he pondered, Dong Tianyu suddenly thought of a movie scene where the male lead killed a Flame Bug. The exoskeleton of the Bug Race was extremely hard, but the insides were still flesh and blood, so if he could break through the exoskeleton and stuff explosives into the Plasma Bug’s body, he could indeed kill it outright.

After recalling this scene, Dong Tianyu took out a cluster bomb he had purchased a long time ago from his Storage Space. After setting up the timer, he entered the Cave in his true form, tied the bomb to the Flying Swords, and then directed the Flying Swords to shoot at the tail of a Plasma Bug resting on the ground.

The Flying Sword easily pierced the skin at the tail of the Plasma Bug, delivering the swiftly exploding bomb inside. The Flying Sword performed a flourish inside the Plasma Bug, severing the cord connected to the bomb, then flew back up into the sky.

The Plasma Bug that had been pierced in the tail by the Flying Sword reacted as if a human were pricked by a hair; it might feel a faint pain, but such discomfort was easily ignored.

When the timer on the cluster bomb reached zero, the bomb detonated violently inside the body of the Plasma Bug.

Compared to ordinary explosives, the main lethality of cluster bombs doesn’t come from the explosion itself but from the secondary objects carried within.

Normally, cluster bombs carry three types of objects. One is the solid steel balls, which primarily serve to increase the lethal radius of the bomb’s explosion.

The second is the inclusion of toxic chemicals that not only cause physical damage to the enemy but also chemical contamination.

The third type involves installing miniature explosives inside the cluster bomb. Cluster bombs laden with mini-explosives are like fireworks in full bloom; after the first detonation, they spray even smaller fireworks in all directions, resulting in a second, albeit less powerful, explosion that covers a wider area.

The cluster bomb Dong Tianyu had prepared was actually the third kind. After the initial detonation, it would shoot the carried explosives in all directions, causing a second explosion with a broader range.

Whether it was due to the Plasma Bug’s sheer size or the toughness of its tail skin, the explosion of the cluster bomb didn’t blow open the creature’s tail, even though blood kept flowing from its ejection holes.

Seeing the Plasma Bug howling in pain and running around chaotically, Dong Tianyu knew that the damage from the explosion was insufficient to kill it.

The cluster bombs in the Storage Space were the most powerful explosives Dong Tianyu had, yet even they hadn’t managed to kill the bug outright.

At this thought, Dong Tianyu suddenly had an epiphany and realized he had been misled by the movie. In the film, human soldiers used mini-nukes to attack the tail of Plasma Bugs, and the blast from the mini-nukes would encompass and potentially decimate the entire Plasma Bug.

However, if the goal was simply to kill the Plasma Bug, it wasn’t necessary to destroy the abdomen used for plasma ejection; destroying its head would suffice to kill it.

With this in mind, Dong Tianyu once again directed the Flying Swords toward the area where the ground-bound Plasma Bug was located. The bug’s cranial carapace was extremely sturdy, but compared to the roughly made Flying Swords by Dong Tianyu, it was quite fragile, and the Flying Swords easily penetrated it, stabbing into the Plasma Bug’s brain.

Subsequently, the Flying Sword caused havoc inside the Plasma Bug’s head, which, having just lifted its head due to the pain, was about to get up—but before its body could stand, its head had turned into mush. Its body twitched a few times before collapsing again, and this time, it never had the ability to rise again.

Compared to the Plasma Bugs that were rampaging around after being hit by cluster bombs and venting their emotions, this Plasma Bug, with all its brain organs destroyed by the Flying Sword, lay on the ground just like the others that were resting, going unnoticed by the rest of the Bug Race.

After confirming that this method of hunting was viable, Dong Tianyu then took control of the Flying Swords to eliminate the resting Plasma Bugs. As their heads were turned into a pulp by the Flying Swords, the limbs of the Plasma Bugs immediately became much more lax.

Perhaps because the Flying Swords were so small compared to the size of the Plasma Bugs, their predatory actions did not attract the attention of other Plasma Bugs, nor were they noticed by the Soldier Bugs guarding them.

When Dong Tianyu finished controlling the Flying Swords on the ground to kill all the Plasma Bugs, he first cleaned the Flying Swords in his Cave before controlling them to depart from the area.

On the way back, even when Dong Tianyu used Divine Sense to scout, he could not find any trace of his teammates.

To say that his teammates failed to break through and were all killed by the Bug Race was something Dong Tianyu refused to believe. After all, with combat capabilities reaching the Path Entry Realm, even if trapped in a swarm of bugs, as long as one wasn’t hindered by anything else, escaping was still possible.

As Dong Tianyu approached the outskirts of Kyoto and was about to land, he unexpectedly saw the figure of Demetrius entering the outskirts camp.

With such an incident having taken place, shouldn’t one return to Kyoto’s mission issuing location for a rendezvous sooner? What was he doing heading to the outskirts camp at this time?

With this in mind, Dong Tianyu suddenly became curious about Demetrius’s actions at the time and decided not to continue flying back. Instead, he hovered above the camp, using Divine Sense to observe every move Demetrius made.

At the moment, Demetrius strolled leisurely towards the camp’s small tavern as if nothing had happened.

Small camps like these on the outskirts of Kyoto were initially built to conveniently serve survivors who had contracted the surrounding land for cultivation, providing them with a place to spend conveniently. Therefore, no walls were erected around the camp, just a simple fence.

The buildings inside couldn’t be called rudimentary, but initially, this camp only had two official buildings and one unofficial building.

The official buildings were a tavern and a general store. Their purposes are evident from their names.

The unofficial building, however, was the intermittently operating Fluttering Blossom Pavilion. As one can tell from the name, and because the camp was designed to serve the survivors working the contracted lands nearby, the initial foot traffic was not heavy, so the Fluttering Blossom Pavilion was open only three to five days each month.

Of course, if the camp became busy for some reason, the once intermittently open Fluttering Blossom Pavilion could, in fact, operate daily.

Today happened to be one of the days the Fluttering Blossom Pavilion was open in the camp, so when Demetrius walked leisurely into the Fluttering Blossom Pavilion, Dong Tianyu suddenly thought that perhaps Demetrius was under so much pressure that he needed to relax at the Fluttering Blossom Pavilion at this time.

Dong Tianyu wasn’t a pervert. Watching videos was one thing, but live performances were out of the question. So, when he saw Demetrius enter the Fluttering Blossom Pavilion, Dong Tianyu stopped planning to keep an eye on him and prepared to leave instead.

However, just as Dong Tianyu was about to leave, a commotion suddenly broke out within the Fluttering Blossom Pavilion. Using Divine Sense to observe, he found that Demetrius had gotten into a fight with the Pavilion’s guards.
