Chapter 504: Chapter 375 Wharf Brawl_2
After the Soldier Bugs active at the docks had been eliminated, the cleaning crew arranged by the Officials also began their follow-up cleanup work.
These soldiers looked at the ships moored at the central dock with disdain on their faces and couldn’t help but curse, "These Bugs Clan really have timing, never coming early or late, but just had to pick this moment to show up."
Hearing the grumbles of his subordinates, the captain was helpless. After all, once they had become soldiers, they did as they were told from above, and obedience to orders was of the utmost importance.
As the last Soldier Bug at the dock fell, the soldiers armed with sickles began to disperse, searching for valuable items on the battlefield.
Watching the soldiers scavenge at the docks, the complexions of some survivors on the ships gradually turned awkward; every item the soldiers didn’t take signified a loss for the corresponding survivor.
Although everyone knew that such losses were inevitable, looking at this situation still made them feel great pain in their hearts.
In the face of this unspoken understanding, no one talked about it.
What else could they do? Unless they were willing to fight for their lives, it was an unwritten rule for the soldiers to collect some things after a battle.
Fortunately, these soldiers had their limits and didn’t target a single survivor to plunder; they generally took a bit from each family’s warehouses before moving on to the next battlefield with their comrades.
Seeing that the Soldier Bugs on the docks had been cleared by the soldiers and that those soldiers had already moved on to other battlefields, the survivors who now felt safe began to order their ships to move closer to the shore.
Just as Yara was about to speak, a soft sword had somehow appeared in Dong Tianyu’s hand, and he directly struck above Yara’s head.
Reacting swiftly, Yara ducked and rolled; but even with her quick response, she inevitably got some blood from the Bug Race’s corpses on her body.
Looking at the deep pits etched into her body by the corrosive blood, Yara wiped the nonexistent sweat from her forehead, then looked up to the sky.
This time, the Bug Race had become dissatisfied with the current situation and had arranged for various types of Bugs to rush into the City Center.
The Bug that had just attacked Yara was a Scout Soldier of the Bug Race, but sometimes it could seamlessly transition into a raiding Soldier Bug.
"Is that the Flying Bug that wanders around the fissure, preventing fighter jets from approaching?"
Yara did not know the name of the Flying Bug, but given its ability to fly, naming it the Flying Bug seemed appropriate.
With the addition of the Flying Bug, the battle that had been under control became chaotic once again.
However, the common survivors without any fighting ability had already taken shelter in the nearby Refuge Center at the second sound of the alarm, so the attacks of the Flying Bugs did not impact them too severely.
At some point, the fissure in the sky gradually began to shrink and ultimately disappeared from everyone’s view, releasing the Flying Bugs that had been guarding the vicinity of the fissure. They immediately joined the surge of Bugs.
The unrestrained Flying Bugs charged en masse towards Kyoto’s City Center.
In the face of these Flying Bugs, Kyoto had long been prepared, though in practice, the preparations were just so-so.
The Flying Bugs were like drones on a battlefield; due to the altitude at which drones operate, ordinary firearms struggle to cause damage from the ground.
While eliminating these drones was indeed simple, ordinary firearms had little effect on them.
But if things got serious, the military did have equipment capable of causing damage to them; it was just that such equipment was prohibitively expensive.
After all, when dealing with drones from the ground, there were only a few types of weapons that could be employed.
But no matter the weapon, their actual production costs are all much higher than drones, like the saying goes, "Using a cannon to kill a mosquito."
It’s not that cannons can’t kill mosquitoes, but the total cost of one Missile is higher than the cost of an entire unit of drones. Because of such hesitation, the Flying Bugs were able to rush into the City Center, where Missiles could no longer be used for interception.
The flying insect, besides its flying capabilities fueled by fuel, has capabilities inferior to the Soldier Bug.
However, it is precisely because of their ability to fly that these bugs can damage the exteriors of fighter jets in the air.
Zachary and Yara originally stood near the edge of the deck, but facing one battle after another, they gradually moved toward the cabin.
When the two reached the entrance to the cabin and saw the swarming Flying Bugs, Yara shook her head and then led Zachary to the control room.
Yara directly took over command authority this time and said to the second officer beside her, "Everyone, get into the cabin."
Hearing the broadcast from the broadcast room, most of the survivors on the deck were obedient and hid in the cabin as soon as they heard the broadcast.
For some reason, every time Yara and Zachary were together, they would encounter brainless people.
After the broadcast, there were two people on the deck who either genuinely did not hear it or pretended not to hear it. After broadcasting three times, those guys still hadn’t left the deck.
This wasn’t before the natural disaster; facing such people, Yara would not indulge them. Once all the sealed compartments were tightly closed, the ship astonishingly began to gradually sink.
When the river water submerged the deck, those people finally became somewhat nervous. As soon as they confirmed through various channels that the ship was indeed sinking, they panicked and ran frantically towards the command tower.
However, as they were running desperately, they were occasionally attacked by Flying Bugs. Just a slight moment of carelessness could cost those Kyoto survivors a terrible price.
With wave after wave of ambush from the Bugs, those stubborn survivors did not make it close to the command tower before the ship finished sinking.
As the ship slowly descended, Zachary and his group truly entered the bottom of the river.
Because of Yara’s decisive actions, although they submerged into the seabed recklessly in this chaos, the death rate among the crew of their ship would have been virtually zero if it weren’t for a few individuals who courted death.
Half an hour later, Zachary, after using the periscope to confirm that the Bug swarm’s attack had ended, pulled Yara aside and inquired, "The bug swarm has finished outside, shouldn’t you arrange for the ship to resurface now?"
Hearing what Zachary said, Yara nodded and said, "Ah, who knows how many people are left at the dock after this battle?"
As the ship resurfaced, Zachary and Yara could finally come out of the command center.
Both of them were actually in pretty good spirits, so even though there was some distance between the two on the riverbanks, their enhanced senses allowed them to see the situation on the dock.
It was unknown how long it had been since the battle ended, but looking at the ships that were originally stopped in the river, they had once again docked at the pier.
"What do you think would happen if they encountered another Bug swarm attack before they’ve had a chance to get organized? I think those people are dangerously naive," Yara said.
Hearing Yara speak so indignantly, Zachary hardly would have thought that actually, Yara had an interesting personality, if not for the jealousy almost spilling from her face.
"Alright, stop being envious of them. The dock over there is actually not safe at the moment. What they are doing now is risking their lives!"
Hearing Zachary say that, Yara asked somewhat perplexedly, "Why do you say that? Aren’t the Soldier Bugs and Flying Bugs all eliminated? What else could be dangerous at the dock now?"
