Chapter 1369: Chapter 713: Resources and Connections (Part 2)
What Zhou Lan didn’t say was that acting skills are one of those things where, unless you’re as strong as Song Chi or Zhou Yun, even if you’re really good, it’s still hard to stand out.
For an actor with real acting chops, first you still have to run into a role and a space to perform that can actually let you use them.
For newbies like Huang Zicheng and Lu Zhongting, that’s very hard to come by.
Take that Fantasy Series Zhongting went to shoot—why didn’t he want to do it? Because he himself couldn’t feel the role at all, and he had no belief in the performance.
"Oh right, where’s Yu Zhiyang?" Zhou Yun asked.
Zhou Lan said, "Brother Chi sent him off to study acting."
"Huh?" Zhou Yun was a bit surprised. "Study what acting?"
Zhou Lan: "Real, proper acting. Brother Chi found him a coach, he’s taking classes in Beijing right now."
Zhou Yun hadn’t even known about this.
She really hadn’t expected Song Chi to be this invested in Zhiyang, even finding him an acting coach.
"I thought you were mainly in charge of Yu Zhiyang." As she spoke, Zhou Lan let out a little squeal. "Speaking of which, since I’ve been back, I haven’t even gone to see him yet."
After coming back to the country, a bunch of things had hit Zhou Yun one after another, and she hadn’t remembered Yu Zhiyang at all.
Not until now.
"I was going to take charge, but when Yu Zhiyang came over, wasn’t Song Chi in the middle of shooting ’Jiangyun Platform’? He wanted to stay with the ’Jiangyun Platform’ crew, so I just let him stay there. Then when ’Jiangyun Platform’ finished, Brother Chi sent him off to Beijing." Zhou Lan said unhappily, "I even wanted to complain to you—back then we said he was supposed to be under us. Now great, he’s completely gone over to Song Chi’s side."
Zhou Yun laughed.
"If Yu Zhiyang likes being over with Song Chi, just let him stay there," Zhou Yun said. "You’re too busy to handle everything on your side anyway."
"Speaking of which, what’s that girl Zheng Xiaojue thinking?" Zhou Lan said. "If we have her take on Huang Zicheng and Lu Zhongting, will she do it?"
"Sit down and talk with her seriously. I feel like deep down she still wants to do it, she’s just scared—scared she won’t do it well," Zhou Yun said. "She looks all carefree, but she’s actually pretty sensitive."
Zhou Lan said, "I get why she doesn’t dare. When I first became an agent, I didn’t dare either, I was scared. But you have to take that step at some point. She’s been by your side this whole time and honestly, that’s very lucky—she’s never gone through that phase where no one will even look at you. But what job is ever smooth sailing? As long as you’re moving up, you’re going to hit that kind of situation. Her biggest strength is she loves to learn—she has this real drive to learn anything. Her English too—she just decided to learn and actually learned it. For a little girl who never went to college, that’s not easy at all. I know that."
Zhou Yun nodded.
"Yeah. Plus, I also feel like having her just be my assistant all the time is wasting her talents."
Zhou Lan: "I’ll have a proper, formal talk with her later. Oh, and I’m planning to move Cao Jun to another position too."
"Hm?"
"Our studio is now managing five artists, and there’ll be more later. I want to hand the whole security side over to him. After working together these past few years, I’ve found he’s really reliable and really responsible," Zhou Lan said. "And he’s got experience serving in the army. With him running that team, I feel totally at ease."
Zhou Yun nodded.
"Then doesn’t that mean I’m suddenly losing two top people at once?"
"You’re not really losing Zheng Xiaojue. She’ll still be your executive broker, she just won’t be following you around every single day. She’ll still go with you for the important schedules," Zhou Lan said. "And Xiaoyun’s a seasoned hand now too. She can move up to cover you, we just need to assign you another assistant."
Zhou Yun said, "For now, just having Xiaoyun is enough. But getting a driver is a real need. I can drive, but after filming I’m exhausted, or when I have early shoots I need to sleep on the road."
Zhou Lan nodded. "I’ll leave that for Xiaoju and Cao Jun to handle."
Zhou Yun nodded.
"I won’t move them until the new people are in place."
They arrived at the hospital.
Zhou Yun and Zhou Lan first handed over the big red envelope they’d prepared, then took a photo with the baby.
Yuk Chu didn’t look much different from before giving birth, and her spirits were good.
"Thank you for coming to see me," Yuk Chu said with a smile. "I was starting to get a bit bored being here by myself."
