Chapter 1087: Chapter 1086: Uncle, I Want a Child Too
Second Sister-in-law of the Wang Family stroked her hair gently as she spoke, sighed, and said, "The eldest also dotes on you a lot. He was just muddle-headed this time. The Old Master will definitely discipline him later. But... don’t blame me for speaking harshly, you really should rein in the eldest a bit. Before, when he went out looking for women, fine, the Old Master turned a blind eye and couldn’t control it anyway. But now look what happened, he went and offended someone he shouldn’t have. Not only did he fail to curry favor, he even ended up getting himself beaten to a pulp."
She spoke earnestly and sincerely: "Good sister, you and the eldest are tied to the same rope. When one thrives, you both thrive; when one loses, you both lose."
All the wariness Wanqing had toward her completely collapsed at this moment. Leaning on Second Sister-in-law Wang’s shoulder, she couldn’t help breaking down and crying, fragile and soft. Second Sister-in-law Wang coaxed her gently for a long while before things finally settled.
On the other side, Gu Anxi walked into the main hall. Bo Xichen was still doing bone-setting for Wang Kefu. At first, Wang Kefu could only groan weakly, and when he got a bit of strength back he started howling like a slaughtered pig... even Old Wang felt a bit distressed listening to it.
Bo Nianyao drank his hot tea and said, "Old Master, there’s no need to worry. Just a small scene."
The Old Master looked at the situation with suspicion, wiped his sweat, and said, "Xichen is really strong. Can he handle this alone?"
Bo Nianyao smiled. "Of course he can. Xichen’s hands are a bit heavy, but they cure all ills. He suffers a little now, but Kefu will benefit for life."
He added, "There’s no such good doctor in Jiang City."
Hearing this, Old Wang couldn’t stop nodding. Once his mind relaxed, he started scolding his son again. "Of all the people you could have offended, you just had to offend someone surnamed Lu. Don’t you know the Lus’ ancestors are from Jiang City? Their whole family is known as walking poison; who dares provoke them? But you just had to throw yourself at them."
The more the Old Master spoke, the angrier he became. "Here’s what we’ll do: tomorrow you and Kegui will switch positions in the company. You’ll be the vice president, and Kegui will be the president."
After saying this, he was still not appeased. He looked at Wanqing, who had just come in, and said, "You need to keep your own man under control in the future. It’s not like you bear no responsibility at all."
Wanqing had just started to feel a bit better, and now she wanted to cry again. She forced herself to hold it in and answered obediently.
The Old Master felt their family scandal had gone public and gave an awkward laugh. Pointing at the tea, he said to Bo Nianyao, "You must find this laughable. Have some tea, have some tea."
Bo Nianyao was very open-minded. "A man who’s never been dissolute has wasted his youth. Old Master, don’t take it too much to heart."
Old Wang sighed lightly. "That’s easy to say, but actually letting it go is very hard. Nianyao, you really are blessed. Xichen is so outstanding, and Anxi married into your family. You truly don’t have to worry about a thing."
Bo Nianyao felt quite pleased. He beckoned Gu Anxi over to sit by him, then asked if she was sleepy. If she was, she could go back to bed first. But Gu Anxi was wide awake; with Wang Kefu screaming like a slaughtered pig, how could she possibly be sleepy?
Seeing that she didn’t want to go back, Bo Nianyao didn’t insist. He knew this little brat liked to watch the drama.
The treatment went on until three in the morning. By the end, Wang Kefu really was like a dead pig, collapsed there, unable to even crawl up. He looked quite pitiful.
Bo Xichen prescribed some medicine and had the Old Master send someone to the pharmacy to buy it for him. Old Wang asked, "Does he need to be hospitalized?"
"No need. As long as he doesn’t exert himself for half a month, he’ll be fine." Bo Xichen smiled faintly, then sniffed himself; he smelled faintly of sweat.
Seeing that things were almost done, Bo Nianyao stood up. "Alright then, we’ll head back first."
Old Wang was endlessly grateful and walked them to the door. "We’ve really troubled you this time. If it weren’t for Xichen, who knows how much more Kefu would have suffered."
Hearing him say that, Wanqing felt extremely uncomfortable. She only spoke after they left. "The Old Master doesn’t stop to think whether this whole thing was stirred up by Gu Anxi. She was having dinner with Kefu tonight."
The Old Master glared at her as soon as he heard that, quite displeased, but he did indeed have questions for Wang Kefu.
At this moment, Wang Kefu’s body felt a little better. He slowly sat up, took a breath, and said, "This has nothing to do with Anxi. I was the one who called her over for dinner."
Wanqing’s lips parted, but she couldn’t get a word out.
And although Wang Kefu said that, he was crystal clear in his heart: it was all those few cups of liquor that caused the trouble, and those few cups had been poured by that little brat Gu Anxi... But how could he dare say that at home? It was truly humiliating beyond belief...
On the other side, once Gu Anxi and the others got back to the villa, they went straight to bed. Lin Yuan’s driver came to pick him up and took him away. Chen Ming, however, was in the mood to sit alone in his room and smoke.
Upstairs, Gu Anxi was sprawled on the sofa waiting for Bo Xichen. He was in the shower, and came out about ten minutes later, towel in hand, rubbing his hair as he walked out. Seeing that she was still awake, he sat down next to her. "Why are you still working on this?"
Gu Anxi said softly, "Isn’t the experiment entering the second phase now? I want to try using an unmanned workshop."
Bo Xichen chuckled. "Then doesn’t that make the equipment in Wang’s company useless?"
"It’s still useful. What if I can’t pull it off? I’ll have to settle for second best." She smiled, then sat up, face full of contemplation. "Uncle, I checked the experimental data that day. Aren’t the components before synthesis too dangerous? They’re not only toxic to humans but also carry a certain explosion risk."
Bo Xichen nodded. "Yes. Your Bo dad and I have been thinking about how to control this problem recently. Your idea of an unmanned workshop is correct—full robotic operation. As for the hazardous components, we’re planning to have them supplied by a third party. We’ll choose a relatively remote location so that even if something happens, there’ll be no casualties."
Gu Anxi seemed lost in thought, and after a while she spoke softly. "What about the Lu Family’s side?"
She paused for a moment and then said, "Little Uncle, did we do something wrong? We shouldn’t have let them start in the first place, right?"
Bo Xichen sighed helplessly. "From the moment Jiang Chaoge got hold of the project files, there was no way to stop the Lu Family anymore. The only way was to let them do the research in the open, keep everything under our control. If we’d officially declared the project ownership as ours, and Lu Ze and Lu Heng continued to work on it in private, who knows what would’ve happened."
Gu Anxi stared at him, suddenly understanding. After a long while she finally said, "So it’s actually that Old Brother can’t tolerate them anymore, huh?"
Her eyes widened. "Jiang Chaoge is just a tool, isn’t she? The ones Old Brother really wants to deal with are Jiang Bin and the Lu Family, right?"
By this point, Bo Xichen no longer hid anything from her. He spoke softly, "Yes. Ever since we came back from the Lu Family, Mr. Wang hasn’t been able to stomach them."
This project is something King Jingyao is determined to take, and he plans to take down both the Jiang Family and the Lu Family as well.
Gu Anxi was momentarily stunned, then asked in a low voice, "Then what will happen to Jiang Chaoge?"
Bo Xichen gave a faint smile. "That depends on how Mr. Wang decides. It also depends on her attitude after everything comes to light later. If she insists on standing with the Jiang Family and joining in the mess, then she may very well end up with the same fate as Lu Heng and his father."
Gu Anxi didn’t speak again. She merely shifted closer and gently leaned her small body into his arms.
Bo Xichen murmured in a low voice, "Go to sleep."
But she wrapped her arms around his neck, unwilling to move, and after a while spoke again, "Little Uncle, there was a time I felt like being together with you was especially hard."
She smiled in embarrassment. "But now it feels like things are pretty easy for us."
Bo Xichen lowered his head, pinched her soft little cheeks, and chuckled. "Isn’t it because you’re a bit obsessed with me?"
"Uncle Bo!" She got annoyed and punched him in the lower abdomen. He pretended to be in great pain.
Right then, though, Gu Anxi burst out laughing, laughing especially happily. "Little Uncle, Chen Ming broke up with that kindergarten teacher."
He tapped her lightly. "You and your weird little brain."
Lying in his arms, her small hand playing with the tie at his waist, she said in a soft, lazy voice, "Do you think he’ll get back together with Beauty Song Jia? They obviously like each other, just a pair of stubborn mules who refuse to admit it."
Bo Xichen smiled faintly. "If they really like each other, of course they’ll end up together."
Gu Anxi yawned. "Little Uncle, you really have zero gossip spirit."
She looked like she was about to fall asleep, so he carried her into the bedroom and gently set her down. He thought she’d already drifted off, but as soon as she lay down she wrapped her arms around his neck and mumbled, "Tell me, why is it so easy for other people to have kids..."
Bo Xichen felt a sharp ache in his chest. He was just about to say something when he realized she’d already fallen asleep.
He let out a long breath, reached out to pull the blanket snugly over her, then went alone out onto the terrace to smoke a cigarette before coming back to bed...
Early the next morning, Gu Anxi seemed to have forgotten all about the night before. Everything was as usual.
Bo Xichen wanted to say something but held back. On the way to the lab, he mentioned the matter lightly to Bo Nianyao. Bo Nianyao smiled. "You’re the one putting pressure on her, aren’t you? Your mom and I already agreed we wouldn’t rush you two for the next couple of years. Zai Zai’s health isn’t great; she needs to really nurse herself back first."
Bo Xichen drove with a faint smile. "Maybe it’s because she sees other people getting pregnant and she wants to be a mom too."
In his mind, Bo Nianyao imagined a child who might look like Anxi or like Xichen. But no matter how he pictured it, he felt he couldn’t even capture one ten-thousandth of how wonderful that child would be... Just then Bo Xichen spoke up. "I’m planning to try for a baby after the New Year. By then Anxi’s body should be pretty much recovered."
Bo Nianyao thought it over carefully, did a bit of mental math, and said, "That works."
Then they moved on to other topics, matters related to the experiments. Bo Xichen mentioned what Gu Anxi had been busy with lately. Bo Nianyao was both shocked and delighted, unable to help exclaiming, "That’s fantastic. Zai Zai really is a genius. By the way, Xichen, does this put pressure on you?"
While driving, Bo Xichen replied in a very calm tone, "Anxi listens to me. Whenever she has something good or invents something new, I’m the first one she runs to."
Inside, Bo Nianyao was cursing: MMP, I was just trying to show some concern, and you go and stuff dog food down my throat.
...
Jiangcheng Hotel.
Early in the morning, Lu Heng got up with a bit of a dizzy head. Madam Lu considerately handed him a cup of clear tea, then started complaining, "Your father is never home these days, and you, Lu Heng, only get back in the middle of the night."
She gently massaged her son’s head. "Who were you socializing with last night to be out that late? When your father came back he even asked about you."
