Two eyes, a large one and a small one, grew on the back of Jian Xing’s head.

As his scalp twisted continuously, a bloody slit was slowly torn open from within, revealing teeth that gnawed up and down.

It was as though a mouth, dripping with blood, was biting its way out from his scalp, issuing a silent, manic laughter.

However, the seemingly mutated Jian Xing was no longer paying any attention to Qian Wangsun or Zhou Bai, simply staring blankly at the Tao Te Ching in his hands, unmoving.

The sight made Zhou Bai’s scalp tingle.

Just as he was wondering what to do next, a thunderous noise came, shaking the entire Building 7 violently. A loud shout emanated from the first-floor entrance and quickly spread throughout the building.

"Is there any student in here?"

"Someone’s coming to rescue us!" Zhou Bai’s face lit up with joy, but then the sight of Qian Wangsun lying on the ground and the possibly mutated Jian Xing made his expression turn sour again.

With the just-heard booming sound, Zhou Bai saw the mouth on the back of Jian Xing’s head crack open wider, enlarging, and in one breath, it swallowed the book in his hand; then, a crazed look appeared on the back of his head.

Zhou Bai immediately unleashed his Primordial Spirit power, scooping up Qian Wangsun from the ground in an attempt to take him away.

As for Jian Xing, Zhou Bai was out of options.

But just as Zhou Bai was about to whisk Qian Wangsun away, another surge of Primordial Spirit power spread from Jian Xing’s body, gripping Qian Wangsun’s hand tightly.

"Damn it!"

Qian Wangsun, with blood on the corner of his mouth, smiled and looked at Zhou Bai, "What are you looking at! Run for it! Go downstairs and call a teacher to save me!"

Zhou Bai and Christina simultaneously unleashed their Primordial Spirit power, with 211 and 99 worth of Primordial Spirit power blasting out, breaking through Jian Xing’s power and dragging Qian Wangsun over.

But, in the next moment, the ground shattered, and countless steel bars rose up, coiling around Qian Wangsun’s body like paint-black steel, the power of an Array.

Christina, wielding Sword Qi, cut through the steel bars, but soon more sprang up, piercing through Qian Wangsun’s limbs, hooking onto his hands and feet.

Enraged, Qian Wangsun bellowed, "I told you to go! Did you hear me? He’s the Main Array Person! If you don’t want to die, get out! Go down and call a teacher to save me! Are you stupid?"

Indeed, Jian Xing before him could manipulate the power of Arrays, and Zhou Bai, despite far surpassing his fellow students, was simply not able to confront the enemy within this Array.

When Zhou Bai’s attempt to save Qian Wangsun failed, he turned around and ran, a myriad of judgements about the situation flashing through his mind.

The most rational and self-preserving action to take was to flee with all his might, and then call for a teacher’s support.

But if he did so...

Zhou Bai turned back and saw Qian Wangsun clearly, his limbs pierced and locked by countless steel bars.

He opened his mouth wide, a smile of despair on his face, as he pushed the Primordial Spirit power within him to the brink.

Barrages of air arrows were fired from his body towards Jian Xing, but were all deflected by the white figure, Xing Jun.

Qian Wangsun... would die.

If Zhou Bai fled in the most rational and self-preserving way, calling for support, it simply wouldn’t be fast enough to save the other person, just like he’d done before.

Boom! Zhou Bai’s foot stomped on the ground, and he spun around, facing the positions of Qian Wangsun and Jian Xing.

In that moment, Zhou Bai’s mind was almost blank, the peculiar Array powers, the white figure Xing Jun, the mutated Jian Xing, each one like a demon crawling up from hell, exerting infinite pressure on him.

But in the next instant, his feet were already on the move, propelling him towards Qian Wangsun.

Don’t run away, don’t passively accept sacrifice, don’t end up helpless again, I train, I grow stronger, just so that in times like this, I have the power to alter the outcome... No such thoughts flashed through Zhou Bai’s mind.

At that moment, he simply felt... he could save Qian Wangsun; he had already acquired... the power to change tragedy.

Roar!

Zhou Bai threw out the Illuminating Stone, and as the power of the Primordial Spirit continued to empower it, the stone suddenly burst into an earth-shaking radiance before beginning to crackle and break.

Under the illumination of pure white light, absolute brightness brought about absolute darkness. Although it couldn’t completely stop the opponent, it did provide a fleeting opportunity.

"Christina!"

With a wild roar in his mind, Zhou Bai violently flung Christina away.

Christina almost instantly flew in front of Qian Wangsun. The whizzing Sword Qi sliced down, severing Qian Wangsun’s limbs that were being restrained, and ’Jian Xing,’ who tried to pull Qian Wangsun to its side, only retracted a pair of severed hands and feet.

As Zhou Bai tossed Christina away, he closed his eyes and took several steps forward. Aided by the power of the Primordial Spirit, he dashed in front of Qian Wangsun.

Leaping and spinning, almost as soon as Zhou Bai laid atop Qian Wangsun’s mangled body, a cruel glint crossed the eyes of Jian Xing, who had just recovered from the shock.

In a flash, the white shadow of Xing Jun appeared before Zhou Bai, raising his palm and striking down towards both Zhou Bai and Qian Wangsun behind him.

The air vibrated, nearly becoming solid. This strike was the most powerful blow Zhou Bai had encountered since arriving in this world.

Boom!

Zhou Bai’s body shook, and Qian Wangsun beneath him let out a scream of pain.

But thanks to the defensive power boost provided as Zhou Bai lay down, neither of them died.

Instead, under the attack of the white shadow Xing Jun, the ground controlled by the Array beneath them suddenly shattered, and both fell into the second-floor space, while Christina also turned into a wisp of blue smoke and was once again absorbed by Zhou Bai.

Watching helplessly as the two escaped before his eyes, ’Jian Xing’ released a piercing scream, his face twisting with a hint of madness. He churned the severed limbs left by Qian Wangsun into minced flesh, then leaped down through the large hole into the second floor with the white shadow Xing Jun.

Upon entering the second floor, Xing Jun saw Zhou Bai crawling on the ground, with the gravely wounded Qian Wangsun beneath him, desperately moving away.

Qian Wangsun screamed, "Are you fucking trying to crush me to death!"

"Shut up!" Zhou Bai retorted, "If you’re not dead, then help!"

"Damn!" Qian Wangsun laughed crazily, and with a surge of Primordial Spirit power, he pushed forward, speeding up their escape.

Hiss!

Jian Xing stared furiously, twisting his body as he climbed the walls like a lizard, chasing after Zhou Bai.

The white shadow Xing Jun closely followed, soaring up in the blink of an eye.

At the same time, the steel and concrete around Zhou Bai violently shifted, all attacking him. He, relying on his strong defensive power, managed to resist, but he already suffered serious injuries, overwhelmed by the Array’s force.

Taking advantage of the slight delay Zhou Bai experienced, the white shadow Xing Jun rapidly caught up.

Just as the white shadow Xing Jun was about to attack again, Zhou Bai suddenly relaxed, thinking, ’Finally, he has arrived. If he were any later, I would have had to abandon this guy Qian Wangsun.’

The next moment, a large hand enveloped in white light pierced through the darkness, directly seizing the white shadow Xing Jun’s head, and with a loud pop, crushed it.

Zhou Bai bought more than ten seconds of time, long enough for his teacher to sense something was amiss and rush to the second floor to back them up.

But upon seeing the face of the man who had crushed the white shadow Xing Jun, Zhou Bai was slightly stunned.

It was Xing Jun, the real Xing Jun.
