The three exchanged a glance, only resigned to move forward along the only path in the corridor.

In the next few rooms, they found a large amount of graffiti on the walls.

The first picture showed a mass of black figures densely drawn on the wall, with what seemed to be a small figure in the center. Red dots adorned the heads of the surrounding figures, all staring at the small one in the middle.

In the second picture, the dense black figures gathered together on one side, while a lone small figure stood on the other. What slightly unnerved Zhou Bai and the others was a tall white figure behind the small one, towering over the other figures. This figure had long arms resting on the head of the small figure, and wore a bizarre smile.

What followed were various chaotic graffiti, depicting black figures lying on the ground, black figures cut into pieces, black figures smeared with much red, and finally, those small figures all gathered together.

Qian Wangsun frowned at the designs and rubbed his neck, "Don’t you guys think these drawings are creepy? Damn, they’re giving me chills."

"It’s just some pictures." Jian Xing scratched the back of his head, "Let’s not worry about these. Let’s move quickly and see if we can find a way out."

At the end of the creepy graffiti, stairs leading to the second floor appeared before the three. Just as they thought of stepping onto the stairs, beams of white light came from the second floor, slowly extending towards the first.

Their expressions changed, and they each retreated into the adjacent dorm rooms.

Soon, they saw a ghastly pale figure slowly emerge from the staircase and drift toward where the three were hidden, eventually stopping in front of their room.

Upon seeing the pale figure, Qian Wangsun’s face drastically changed, and he quickly covered his mouth and nose. Turning his head, he saw Jian Xing’s face looking extremely troubled, with sweat continuously dripping down his forehead.

Then he glanced at Zhou Bai...

Zhou Bai was lying on the ground?

Qian Wangsun: "???"

Seeing Qian Wangsun’s astonished face, Zhou Bai gave him a reassuring look.

"Reassuring my ass!" Unfortunately, Qian Wangsun completely misunderstood the meaning of Zhou Bai lying down.

Inside Zhou Bai’s mind, Christina huddled into a ball, her screams ringing out as she cried and yelled, "I said today I was supposed to cultivate at home! Why did you bring me here! Why did you bring me here! I have just awoken less than two months ago! I’m going to die today!"

Zhou Bai: "Cut the crap, ready your Sword Qi! Be prepared to fight at any moment!"

To their surprise, the pale figure in front seemed to completely ignore the three hiding in the room, just leisurely floating away and eventually disappearing into the darkness.

Once the figure vanished, Qian Wangsun spoke fearfully, "What the hell was that? Did you guys see his face?"

Jian Xing nodded with cold sweat dripping, "I only saw the side of his face... but... it was Teacher Xing Jun, wasn’t it?"

The face of the pale apparition flashed through Zhou Bai’s mind, looking exactly like Xing Jun.

"Has Xing Jun mutated?" Zhou Bai said incredulously, "But it seems like he didn’t notice us?"

Christina: "Damn it! I knew that Xing Jun was no good!"

"Whatever it is, that ghostly thing feels very dangerous." Qian Wangsun quickly said, "We can’t forcefully break through this Array. Let’s hasten upstairs and see if there’s another way out. Most Arrays comply with the laws of Heavenly Dao, they must leave a sliver of hope."

Jian Xing nodded and followed.

Zhou Bai also got up from the ground and, following Qian Wangsun, hurried up the stairs to the second floor.

Unlike the somewhat dark and mysterious first floor filled with red talismans,

the second floor they encountered was a brightly lit corridor, the walls painted white and ceiling bulbs radiating bright light, with even suns, white clouds, and stars pasted on the walls.

The three exchanged glances, sensing the eeriness of the place, knowing full well that when they had looked at this building from the outside, it had been pitch black with no trace of light visible.

Jian Xing led the way, Zhou Bai followed behind, and Qian Wangsun stood in the middle to provide support. His eyes gleamed with bursts of sharpness as he continually surveyed their surroundings, looking out for unknown dangers.

Seeing Jian Xing occasionally scratch the back of his head, Zhou Bai asked, "Are you feeling itchy?"

"Yeah," Jian Xing nodded. "Maybe I’m just too tense. Ever since we entered this building, my scalp has been feeling a bit itchy."

Qian Wangsun said, "Stop scratching your bald head. If we get out of this, I’ll personally give you a hair treatment."

The three of them slowly moved forward and discovered that the second floor’s rooms were filled with various toys, dolls, puzzles, and even paintbrushes that had been used halfway through.

Suddenly, voices came from behind a closed door, startling all three of them.

They quickly hid to one side and listened attentively to the sound coming from behind the door.

A child’s voice said, "Dad, I want to go out and play."

"I don’t want to read these."

The child’s voice became dejected: "I understand…"

"I will learn…"

"The way that can be told is not the constant way; the name that can be named is not the constant name…"

Hearing the child reciting from behind the door, Zhou Bai and the others were surprised. Weren’t these the exact words from the book pages they had found?

As the child continued to recite, footsteps suddenly sounded, followed by the noise of a door opening and the footsteps fading away. The three of them looked grim as they stepped out from a nearby room.

They looked towards the door that had been opened. The voice of the child reciting had vanished, the doorway was empty, and not a soul was in sight where the footsteps had passed.

The whole process involved only sounds, no human figures.

Feeling a tingling sensation on his scalp, Jian Xing exclaimed, "Could this be the effect of an Array?"

Qian Wangsun, his gaze intense, nodded slightly. "What does all this mean? What does the person who set up this Array want to achieve?"

With no answers, the three could only continue onward. After passing several more rooms, sudden loud thuds came from one of them, sounding like someone striking a ball.

Then a smack echoed. It seemed as if the ball had been smacked away. Each bounce of the ball as it hit the ground propelled it out of the room and in front of the three men, eventually rolling into the darkness.

Simultaneously, the room again echoed with the child reciting scriptures, with the sound gradually fading away, and then disappearing completely.

When the three reached the door of the room where the sounds had come from, they found, as expected, that there was no one inside.

As they moved forward, they gradually understood more about what they were hearing—it seemed to be an adult supervising a child learning scriptures, forcing the child to read and recite constantly.

From the first chapter to the eightieth, as the learning session drew out longer, the adult seemed increasingly agitated, his coercion intensifying.

Snap!

The sound of a lash came, followed by the light sobs of the child.

"I... I can’t remember..."

"I don’t know what the last sentence is."

"Dad... you never showed me... never showed me the last chapter."
