"OK. Let's go."

Kilniara got up, but Joe didn't move. He stayed where he was, smiling.
"Aren't we going?"
Joe replied, "You didn't ask to change your job to gifted."
Her eyebrows knit slightly, "I will… when we get to a priest."
Joe nodded, "So ask me."
Kilniara stared with knitted eyebrows then they widened in shock, "I… could I change my job to gifted?"
Joe's smile grew, "Thought you'd never ask."
Joe enacted his skill for Kilniara, offering her the option to change to gifted and Kilniara's eyes widened in shock even as her grin grew. Joe smiled.
"Mind if I can see your system message?"
"Yes!" Kilniara leapt at him and began kissing him, ecstatic joy suffusing throughout her.
They remained like this for a time before she finally pulled her lips away from him and spoke excitedly, "When?"
Joe grinned, "Just a day or two ago. I still need some time to prepare for Zilnek, but it should be soon."
Kilniara's grin only grew with that, "So soon?"
Joe smiled at that, "Yeah, but… like I said. Still a lot of things I need to figure out."
Kilniara nodded at that, calming, but then grew giddy with excitement, "Zilnek will be so surprised."
Joe's grin grew, "Yeah. I want to surprise him with it soon, if I can."
"Ah!! Yes! That would be an excellent surprise for him. I can't wait to see his face when you tell him."
Joe laughed, "Well… I'll probably still need several more weeks to figure out … what will happen with me, but…"
Kilniara sobered, "Yes. You are taking a great risk."
Joe shook his head, "I don't think it's… too much of a risk, but I still want to be careful."
Kilniara only nodded and squeezed him tight again, basking in the joy of the moment for a time until she finally settled back and stared at him with a gleeful grin. She spontaneously stole a kiss again before bouncing back and Joe laughed at her antics as he continued.
"Well. I would like to see the system message, if possible."
Kilniara flushed a bit with embarrassment, "Oh yeah! Sorry. Here."

Gunlan Galgandar, Second in Line for Patriarch, entered the city, his carriage rattling across the cobblestones of the outer city. They passed the outer gate without fanfare or delay, quickly allowed inside. As they traveled into the city, his carriage suddenly wobbled, the sign of someone joining or leaving the carriage. He thought little of it, and continued to play with one of his concubines when the window from the driver parted slightly, just enough to let a voice enter.
"Lord. One of the spymaster's men has arrived. He has word."
Gunlan sighed, but then quickly allowed the interruption, pushing the girl away and preparing himself before replying, "Allow him in."

"Yes, Lord."
There was a pause of a few moments before the door opened and the spymaster's man entered. He did not sit, nor seek to sit, simply bowing himself in half, although he did brace himself against the low roof with an outstretched hand.
"Lord. News of the Matriarch."
Gunlan tensed, "Continue."
"She has returned to her cultivating; quite diligently. She has been in contact with the eccentric."
Gunlan held back his rage, his face still, "And the eccentric?"
"He has… heard."
"But?"
"I have no further reports … or actions from the eccentric."
Gunlan grimaced, waving the man away, dismissing him and the man hesitated slightly but then quickly left, to the displeasure of Gunlan. He did not, however, make note of it as the man left quite quickly and bothered him no more. Gunlan's foul mood sunk ever further. If his fool of a mother had returned to her cultivating, then … Gunlan did not like what that boded.

"Mother," Gwenvair spoke as her mother opened the door to her room, "Please come in."
Her mother nodded, gracefulness eliciting both pride and jealousy from Gwenvair who schooled her face well enough to keep it hidden. She waited for her mother to enter the room and close the door before speaking out. She made sure to do so before her mother arrived at her bed. This news was Matriarch's business.
"Matriarch. I have news to offer."
Her mother immediately halted, her easy going guise she had relaxed into quickly hidden behind the royal distance of the Matriarch, "Speak."
Gwenvair bowed, only her head and a single degree of her right shoulder, as was proper for the First in Line for Matriarch, "The eccentric wishes to offer apologies."
"The eccentric?"
"Yes, Matriarch."
"Did he inform you of what he wished to apologize?"
"He begs consideration for the interruption he caused the city today. He had no intention to interrupt the cities affairs or cause discomfort to our clan."
Her mother's breathed hitched, her composure unable to be contained at the realization that what had happened was due to the eccentric. Her mother took another deep breath, calmed herself well before replying, "Please, offer the eccentric reassurance. There was no harm done."
"Thank you, Matriarch. Also, if I may request, as Queen, to keep this … private?"
Her mother's easy grace was quickly replaced by the Matriarch's avid stare, "He did not ask for this?"
"He did. But, I wished to ask in his stead. He appreciates his privacy."
The Matriarch nodded, then her mother quickly nodded again with a deeper sigh, "Ah. You are practicing. Excellent. That is very wise."
Gwenvair smiled, "Thank you."
"Daughter. You are welcome. You are doing very well. I am... so proud."
Gwenvair smiled, grateful for her mother's relaxed attitude towards her, "Thank you, but I am now Queen. So…"
Her mother smiled brightly and settled beside her, excitement easily seen, "He did that pressure...?"
Gwenvair's stiffness disappeared and she shifted quickly, leaning forward and began to gossip excitedly with her mother, "Yes, but he had no intention to do so. It was simply a side effect of … what he was doing."
Her mother's eyes widened and her smile grew even greater, "Truly?"
Gwenvair giggled, nodding. Her mother looked back, her own smile as great, and the two laughed together for a short time before Gwenvair leaned forward.
"And he promised to give me this power as well!"
Her mother's happy giggle disappeared in a wave of disbelief, disbelief that warred with worry, fear, and hope for a future too bright to possibly be. Mother and daughter slept very little that night.
