Chapter 144: Meeting The Furious Woman
Chapter 144
If there was anything, she definitely prided herself on knowing every variable in her house, but... Alex was a constant source of unpredictable miracles. From winning against the undefeated gambling king to defeating Annie.
Finally, she let out a soft breath and said calmly.
"I don’t really understand why you are so insistent on meeting with her. But, I will spare you the benefit of doubt and wouldn’t ask why. You’ve proven your judgement before, and if you’re sure that you know what you’re doing, then I trust you."
Alex felt a massive wave of relief wash over him. He was genuinely happy that Nyx had agreed without asking a bunch of complicated questions or demanding proof of why he wanted to meet with Annie.
Her trust in him ran deeper than he realized, and he vowed not to let her down.
"Thank you, Nyx" he said sincerely.
"Come with me," Nyx said indifferently, turning on her heel and leading the way back inside.
Together, they walked deep into the lower levels of the mansion. They descended a set of hidden stairs that led far beneath the earth, where the air turned noticeably cooler and had that kind of smell that a basement would have if you hadn’t gone there in a while.
They reached the familiar thick, blast proof steel door that served as the main and only entrance to the underground prison.
Nyx stepped forward, placing her thumbprint against the digital scanner and releasing it once the biometric systems chimed in success. Then she inputted the four digit code.
Immediately after inputting the last digit, there was a heavy hiss sound as the impressive lock mechanism disengaged, followed soon after by the steel door slowing opening.
She did not step inside. Instead she turned to Alex with her beautiful face as calm and collected as ever but her eyes filled with an unspoken warning.
"Annie’s cell password is 0-C-5-J. I trust you should remember where her cell is located. The dampening systems and safeguards are active, so her abilities should be suppressed for now, but make sure you keep your guard up." She paused, then added quietly. "I’ll give you the privacy you asked for. Don’t take too long."
"Yeah I won’t. It’ll just be an hour or so."
Nyx looked at him with narrow eyes before turning around, and walking back toward the upper levels, leaving him alone in the dim, starkly lit hallway.
It was now or never.
Alex took a deep breath, adjusting his shirt before stepping through the threshold. The heavy steel door closed automatically behind him, locking with a definitive thud that made Alex’s heart skip a beat.
He really, really hoped Nyx would remember to come after an hour. But Nyx would surely remember, right? And even if she didn’t, he had his cellphone with him so he would just call her.
After getting that out of his chest, he slowly walked down the stairs into the familiar futuristic hall, his footwear echoing softly against the floor. He then stopped right in front of the first cell which Doris had placed Annie in.
Through the thick, transparent reinforced partition with faint arcs of electricity, he looked inside.
Annie, the stunningly beautiful but ruthless mixed Korean and Western woman was sitting on the edge of the bed.
She was still dressed in the exact same clothes they had brought her in. And her long, messy hair, most probably from raging around the moment she woke up, fell forward, obscuring most of her face that surprisingly, still had most of the burn marks from her dangerous attack.
She was clenching her fist so tightly that her long fingernails were digging deeply into her palms. Alex picked up the sight of tiny, dark crimson drops of blood slowly welling up between her fingers, and dripping silently onto the ground.
From this position she looked exactly like a captured tiger, especially with how furious she was against her confinement. It was a no brainer that her mind was locked in a state of pure, chaotic hatred.
Alex stood there for a second, taking in her appearance, before he stepped closer and called out.
"Annie..."
The moment her name left his lips, Annie’s head snapped up. Her wild, messy hair immediately parted to reveal a face full of venomous hatred.
The burn mark from her own dangerous attack still ruined her beautiful face, giving her a scary look in the dim light of the room. She stared directly at him through the thick reinforced pane with her eyes filled with a pure hatred that looked ready to tear him apart.
"You," she spat, her voice rough and dripping with malice. She stood up slowly from the edge of the bed. Her body was shaking from her pent up rage she had managed to suppress after trying to get out of this stupid place earlier, when she first woke up.
Now seeing one of the culprit faces, responsible for her predicament made her unable to suppress it anymore.
"Did you come down here just to mock me in my present condition? To look at the trapped demon in your cage and feel good about your pathetic self?"
Alex did not answer right away. He just simply leaned against the wall next to the intercom, looking totally relaxed, which only seemed to make her even more angrier than before.
Annie, clenching her bloodied fists even tighter, took a step closer to the glass partition and glared at him.
"Enjoy your little victory while you can, pretty face. Because you and Nyx are living on borrowed time. Your days are on countdown from the moment you took me. Do you honestly think this pathetic little basement can hold me forever? Hmph. What a pipe dream.
The moment Heukryeon finds out where I am, the moment they track me and pull me out of here, it’s over for you. I will personally hunt you both down. Then I will kill you, and I will thoroughly enjoy watching the life leave your eyes while Nyx watches. But don’t worry I’ll make sure that Bitch’s gets what’s coming to her. Her death will be twice as painful as yours."
She then went on and on, her voice rising as she continued talking about how she was going to hurt him, something about skinning him alive or was it feeding him to piranhas?
She then continued talking about how the dark force backing her would destroy Nyx’s entire empire, and how he would beg for mercy on his knees. Yeah right. Like that would ever happen.
Overall, it was a pretty long textbook villain speech, filled with the desperate bravado of a captured fighter who still couldn’t accept her defeat like a normal person. Well, she wasn’t really a normal person in the first place.
Alex listened to her long, angry speech for a few seconds. Then right in the middle of her vivid description of his upcoming demise, he raised a hand to his mouth and let out a loud yawn, tired of listening to her crappy threats.
He even tapped his hand against his mouth to make sure that the sound carried clearly through the glass partition.
Annie froze. Her mouth stayed half open, her words dying in her throat as her face burned with rage from the sheer, insulting disrespect coming from the damn man.
She had just laid out a passionate promise of absolute torture, and here he was acting like he was listening to a boring lecture on maths.
"Are you done talking?" Alex asked, blinking away a fake tear from the corner of his eye, with a tone that was meant to intentionally provoke her. "Because honestly, that was a lot of words just to say, I’m mad that I lost."
As opposed to his outward appearance, Alex wasn’t just playing around. His mind was completely sharp, calculating how long it’ll take for the Aura Of Seduction to start affecting her, since he had already activated it during the first part of her sentence. And the amount of time he had before Nyx would come and check up on him.
He only had less than an hour or so to sleep with this feisty woman over here, copying her incredibly useful ability, and last but certainly not the least, harvest some very much needed Desire Points and Energy from her.
Alex looked at the fuming woman, who had gone silent, on the other side of the glass. If he wanted the Aura’s effect to walk faster then he has to maintain a close proximity with Annie, and occasionally make small contacts with her.
He reached out his hand, and his fingers began to tap rapidly against the digital keypad mounted on the reinforced frame. He punched in the unique cell password Nyx had given to him, even though he didn’t exactly need it because he had already memorized them when Doris was opening the cell.
BEEP
A green indicator light flashed on the panel beside the door, followed by a click sound as the heavily reinforced partition hissed open slowly, removing the only physical barrier separating him from the dangerous, hateful woman inside.
