Chapter 50: Deviation of the core
Rose looked around the room. Her eyes paused momentarily as they landed on the two girls chained to the floor.
They were both naked and covered in bruises mixed with some fluids.
And most of all they were unconscious.
Rose, upon witnessing this sight, quickly summoned the magic of the dungeon and cast a pure white light over both of them.
She then rushed over and shattered the chains binding them.
Crack! Crack!
"You bastard...!" She said with an enraged expression and a hateful tone. "What did you do to them!"
The chains fell to the floor, causing the girls to fall into Rose’s arms.
The demon smiled and sat up. "What did I do...?"
The cunning smirk on his face enraged the angel even more. She laid Nieves and Chiara on the ground carefully and stood up.
Without warning, radiant energy began to disperse from her body, filling the chamber with a soft and active glow. Her hands steadily clenched into fists as she directed them towards the horned demon.
"Whoa wh—"
The horned demon stood up and took a step back in the sight of this divine horror.
FLASH!
In an instant, a shockwave of pure divinity erupted from all directions.
The secluded space began to break in on itself and at the same time, the horned demon’s body disintegrated into nothing, completely removed from existence.
"..."
With the sub space gone, the main dungeon room faded back.
After a while, Rose nonchalantly turned her attention towards the girls and knelt down beside them once more, cradling them gently into her arms.
"O, poor souls..." Rose said inwardly. "How foolish of you to come here..."
A rift tore behind her, she stepped through taking Nieves and Chiara along.
There, she waited a little longer for them to muster up the energy for their bodies to become active once more.
...
Moments later, in the empty boss room, a light particle began to rise beside the throne where the demon once stood.
Slowly, they began to conjure themselves up one after the other.
Piece by piece, the horned demon’s body reformed from nothing, his torso appeared first.
Then followed his full body, standing exactly as he was before his destruction.
He cracked his face and stretched his limbs, producing an oddly satisfying yawn.
"That angel... Ha... Always so dramatic," He muttered with a smile as he fell backwards to his throne.
...
Meanwhile, on the other side of the rift, Rose had reappeared elsewhere within the dungeon.
She watched Nieves and Chiara closely as she waited for them to muster enough energy to move.
Her plan was to drop them outside as soon as they woke up... But...
’Why are they taking this long?’ Rose thought. ’My magic should have healed them a long time ago... And yet...’
She leaned in to continue pouring magic, to boost the process.
Then she heard a strange sound.
Badum...!
At first, she didn’t pay much attention to it, then she heard it again... This time from Nieves.
Badum! Badum!
’What the...’
She hovered her hands over their chests... Then to their stomachs where the sound resonated from the loudest.
Badum! Badum! Badum!
Upon feeling the type of magic coming from them, Rose’s eyes opened in shock.
"..."
She pressed her hands firmly on their bodies and channeled her magic deeper, scanning for the source of this energy.
And there it was...
Two pulsing masses of demonic energy. Alive in their bellies.
Rose pulled her hands backward instantly as to not get corrupted.
"Bloody hell!" She exclaimed as realization hit her.
These girls were... Pregnant!
...
Crash!
BOOOOM!
Alackster and Morena were thrown backwards by a massive swing of the Tyrant Frog’s claw.
Morena slammed into the ice-cold ground and rolled several times before using her energy to bring herself to a halt.
Cough! Cough!
She placed her hands on her mouth as she spat out blood. She had stayed too long in another being’s body, constantly using her foreign magic over and over.
This had drained her both physically and mentally.
She glanced over to her side where Alackster flew even further, crashing into multiple icy trees.
As the wind continued to flow, Acheron barely had any energy left to keep herself standing.
"SHRIEKKKKK!"
The Tyrant Frog let out a large triumphant roar that shook the entire wasteland. Its massive form cast a shadow that swallowed the light around them.
Acheron fell to one knee as she wiped the trickling blood from her lip.
’Two hours... And we have barely done any damage.’
She forced herself back up and turned to take a quick check on her team.
Dalia had completely exhausted her mana reserves and lay on the ground under a simple barrier spell she had placed up earlier.
William was the only one who kept charging back and forth. He was a prodigy all right, but there was something seriously wrong with this level of stamina.
Crash!
It was as if as the battle intensified harder and harder, his lips just continued curving upwards, forming a genuinely happy smile.
Acheron raised her head up to the frog’s HP bar.
[Glacial Tyrant Frog HP: 1,198,547 / 1,500,000]
"Tsk!"
They were nowhere near halfway and most of them were already this tired. At this point, it was a matter of when they would finally dry out and lose.
’Its hide is too thick. Every attack barely scratches the surface... But what if we don’t attack the outside?’
She stared at the creature as it moved, watching how it protected itself against William’s relentless attacks.
’Armor on the outside... But the inside has to be softer.’
It was basic logic. If they couldn’t break through the defense, they needed to destroy it completely.
Her eyes returned to her panel as she thought:
’One chance. That’s all we have left.’
Acheron mustered all the energy in her body and rose, stepping forward foot by foot.
"Arlo!" She shouted amidst the chaos.
Morena’s head tilted towards her direction.
"Bind it! One more time!"
Morena wanted to protest that she had literally nothing left... But then she remembered the profile she made of Acheron.
Maybe she could do it?
She slowly raised her trembling hands and began to summon what little power she had left in this body.
Dark chains came from nowhere, appearing from the ground in all directions surrounding the frog.
Clang!
Clang!
Clang!
They wrapped around the creature’s legs, pinning it to one position.
The Tyrant Frog thrashed immediately, trying to break free of the cage once more as it did before.
It moved back and forth but it didn’t budge this time.
It was stronger?
It shifted its vision towards the binder. The light coming from her wasn’t normal.
It was a strange color... A distinct color.
It was the color of life.
Naturally a mage or any being that possesses a core has different amounts of mana reserves. But when it’s exhausted and the willpower of the user is unyielding to give up... The core begins to search for new ways to power itself...
And the only way it could do that... Was through the user’s body.
It would begin to steal life energy from the soul of the user.
Little by little.
This event was known as deviation of the core.
The frog opened its mouth and said in its beast language:
"You fool... You are willing to take the life of an innocent to take me down."
Morena smiled and stomped her feet harder into the floor.
"Die, son of a b*tch..."
The frog got even angrier and thrashed harder, not paying attention to the one who commanded it all.
Golden light began to erupt from Acheron’s body, amplifying her Arcane energy to its absolute limits.
The Tyrant Frog sensed the danger and struggled even harder.
But Morena did not yield.
William stepped away just in time to view the attack from a safe angle.
Boom! Crack!
Acheron, whose eyes now glowed like the stars under the night sky, raised both her hands and pointed them towards the sun.
A massive magic circle formed above the battlefield so grand, it overshadowed even the frog’s gigantic body.
The temperature dropped for a moment as everything seemed to pause.
From the silence, a voice called out...
"Grand... Redemption."
