Chapter 93: Into Hell. Part-4.
"Although I can make a powerful mana bomb from this golem core, we will need to first purify the miasma that’s corroded it way inside the core..."
"I have an artifact that can purify miasma to some extent, but it’s not a high-rank artifact, and it works very slowly."
"We can’t stay in this warehouse for long; it will likely be destroyed by miasma soon."
The warehouse was located on the ground floor of a three-story building, due to which most of the corrosion brought by miasmic rain was offset by the upper floors.
But now that the two of them had used this exit to enter the city, Miasma would sooner or later realize that there is a hidden entrance here that needs to be destroyed.
This was the reason why Xinran had to use a different exit every time she infiltrated the city, as after one use, it would be destroyed by miasma.
"I know a place where we can hide for a while and buy some time to work on the bomb..."
Hearing Xinran’s words, Zephyr nodded his head and followed behind her.
The duo walked towards the wide front door of the warehouse, and Xinran lightly tapped the mana swirling around nearby, and a look of understanding appeared on her face.
"No wonder this warehouse is still in such a good shape despite being bombarded by corrosive miasma for so many years... the upper floor is indeed a good buffer..."
"But to think that they placed such a powerful mana seal on the warehouse... now the presence of these robots here makes sense... miasma likely didn’t get to control them properly because of the seal..."
Although some amount of miasma still managed to sneak inside, it was minimal and could be purified with some effort.
"The person in charge of this warehouse must have been a clever fellow..."
Xinran knew the general situation of the places where the secret exits were from the books and records she had read before.
This was the first time she had used this specific exit to arrive inside the warehouse, so she only knew the layout of the warehouse building, not its exact current situation.
"Well, to leave, I need to break the seal; unfortunately, the cores inside the mining-type robots are too small and more damaged due to lack of maintenance. I will have to leave them behind..."
Xinran had several space rings, but she was carrying a massive number of artifacts and other objects inside them all; she did not have so much excessive space that she could fit cores that would not be of much use in her ring.
She could let Zephyr carry the cores, but in the end it would still take time to extract all the cores safely, and time was something the two of them lacked the most.
It was better to leave early before a fierce counter-attack came.
[Basic Magic: Reserata!]
Using the lock and seal unlocking spell ’Reserata,’ Xinran easily opened the seal with her overwhelmingly powerful magic.
’Reserata’ only worked on seals that were weaker than the user’s rank; it was unusable on same or upper-rank locks or seals.
Thankfully, Xinran was a former S-ranker, and even after decades of decay, her current strength was still around rank ’A+’.
The seal, on the other hand, was easy for her to deal with.
*Click!*
As if some kind of mechanism had activated, the bluish glow of mana disappeared from the main door and the wall of the warehouse instantly.
The front door started to slowly open, and liquid miasma started leaking inside almost instantly.
"Get ready; once the door opens, use the obelisk’s power to resist miasmic corruption. I will rely on my darkness-type artifact to do the same..."
"To get to that safe place, we will have to travel on foot under the constant bombardment of miasmic rain."
"Don’t worry, I have seen Layla easily shrug off dense miasma without getting corrupted in the slightest before; you can do it too... no, maybe you can do it better than her!"
Hearing those words, a solemn expression appeared on Zephyr’s face, and he nodded his head immediately.
’Sigh, in the end, we still have to rely on our own body in the end...’
Zephyr wasn’t surprised or terrified at all; he knew that they couldn’t just keep using the underground tunnels to travel around everywhere in the city.
The entire city was being bombarded by miasmic rain; the sewers and tunnels here were likely already filled with dense miasmic filth, rendering them useless.
Smaller houses were almost already erased, so there was no way they could jump from house to house to avoid the rain.
The only option they had was to make their way forward by walking on the road openly and resist the miasmic rain with their body and artifacts!
’I just hope that the obelisk will not fail me...’
Taking a deep breath, Zephyr channeled his mana into the tattoo located on the back of his palm in a calm and steady manner.
Layla had already told Zephyr about the basic uses of the obelisk, and according to her, the summoning of the obelisk’s power works in two ways.
One is direct summoning, which consumes too much mana because the obelisk gets summoned in a physical form in the outside world and can be used like a shield.
The other method is to just channel mana into the tattoo and only summon a bit of the power of the obelisk with a complete summon.
*SHMMM!!!*
A pure white glow suddenly appeared all around Zephyr’s body as the tattoo located on the back of his palm glowed with a faint but soothing brilliance.
Covered in that glow, Zephyr felt as if the constant pressure and burden placed on him by the heavy presence of miasma in the area were suddenly lifted.
The pure white glow made Zephyr feel comfortable all over his body as if he had entered a hot water-filled bathtub.
"This is nice..."
By the time Zephyr was done preparing, the massive front door slid open, and the due was greeted by a flood of miasmic liquid that instantly rushed inside the warehouse at full speed the moment the door opened.
Seeing this scene, Xinran immediately opened her wings, grabbed Zephyr’s arm, and hurriedly dragged him up!
Zephyr also hurriedly used his movement art to step on air and stabilize himself; only after stabilizing himself did he look downwards and realize that the situation was more severe than the two of them had imagined.
"T-the last time I came here... things hadn’t escalated to this state..."
While speaking those words, Xinran’s voice trembled with anxiety!
The scene beneath their feet was simply too shocking to ignore!
Originally, Xinran thought that they could use the road to walk towards their destination, but the current situation was completely unexpected!
The entire area around them was flooded with condensed miasmic liquid as if a flood had drowned the entire city!
If not for Xinran’s quick reaction, the two of them would have either been swept away by the rushing tide of miasmic liquid or would have been corrupted on the spot!
The obelisk and Xinran’s magical artifact both had limits; being buried under such dense miasmic liquid was tantamount to death!
"It’s at least three meters high... to think so much miasmic liquid would have accumulated in the city in just a few years... this is insane!"
"The last time I came here, the roads were still visible, and you could walk on them normally! There was no such flood of miasma like now! Where did so much miasma even come from!?"
Although it was true that miasma rained in this city every moment, even then, it was abnormal for it to accumulate so much that it would turn into a 3-meter-tall flood!
*Crack!* *Crack!*
Just when Zephyr and Xinran were about to heave a sigh of relief after escaping the sudden ambush of the miasmic flood, an eerie sound of cracking rang out in their ears, causing them both to feel chills run down their spines.
Zephyr hurriedly turned his head towards Xinran and noticed the silver bracelet on her right hand was starting to crack and fall apart!
"Th-this!? How can this be!? I just repaired it recently; how could it break so easily!"
A rare look of panic appeared on Xinran’s face as she stared at her bracelet in shock!
This artifact had never malfunctioned before!
It was an artifact that could use the darkness element to hide the user’s presence from miasma and prevent corruption!
Xinran had used this same artifact to sneak into the city and avoid the miasmic rain’s effect many times before!
"H-how could this have happened... th-this..."
Xinran could use her mana shield and other artifacts to protect herself from the onslaught of miasma, but the problem was that she had already used all these things in her earlier expeditions!
The miasma in the capital city already knew about those tricks and could counter them easily!
Before the journey even began properly, the due was plunged directly into hell by miasma!
