Chapter 71: To The Royal Capital We Go! Part-1.
"The only way to use the ’Obelisk’ in its physical or summoned form is by using it as an indestructible shield!"
When Layla spoke those words, Zephyr almost thought he had heard wrong, but it turned out that Layla was literally telling him to use that obelisk as a shield because even she didn’t know what else it could be used for either!
"From my years of experimentation, the ’Obelisk’ is indestructible!"
"Unless the user runs out of mana, they can keep the summoned ’Obelisk’ in the material world and use it to resist fatal attacks at critical moments. It is extremely durable and tough!"
Hearing those words, Zephyr felt pity for the poor Obelisk.
’An artifact that is supposed to be closely related to the biggest secrets of this world has been reduced to being used as a mere ordinary shield! How ironic...’
"By the way, what kind of experimentation are you talking about exactly..."
Zephyr already had a hunch about what Layla was going to say before even asking this question, but he still asked the question just to confirm his speculations, and sure enough, Layla didn’t disappoint him.
"I threw it in an active volcano, flew in the sky, and dropped it from the height of tens of thousands of meters and even forced a dragon to use their breath on it..."
"And yet, the ’Obelisk’ remained completely unharmed! Not a single scratch appeared on its surface even after I bombarded it with the most powerful artifacts in my possession for an entire month!"
"Unless the user runs out of mana, causing the Obelisk to get de-summoned, it’s impossible to destroy it with any conventional or unconventional methods that I can think of!"
While sipping her tea, Layal continued in a calm voice,

"But of course, I believe there must be something in the universe that can likely affect this ’Obelisk’; after all, everything has to have a limit!"
"I believe that this Obelisk has several ’Laws’ of the ’World’ manifested inside of it, and that’s why it’s near indestructible..."
"So if we can find someone or something that can interrupt or break the power of the ’Laws’ of the ’world,’ we can likely shatter this ’Obelisk’ too..."
Hearing those words, Xinran clicked her tongue.
"Tch, you are saying it so easily as if breaking the ’laws’ of the ’world’ is easy. The power required for achieving something like that would be impossible for us to even imagine!"
Layla also nodded her head.
"That’s why I said that this Obelisk can be used like a very powerful shield..."
Zephyr suddenly narrowed his eyes and asked curiously at that moment,
"What about miasma? Did you experiment with what would happen to the obelisk if it got attacked with miasma?"
Surprisingly, Layal nodded her head at those questions.
"The ’Obelisk’ is extremely resistant to miasmic corruption; you can certainly use it like a shield against miasma in critical moments without worrying."
"Truthfully speaking, I have tested almost everything, but nothing seems to make the ’Obelisk’ react... the only thing I haven’t tested on it until now is how it would react if it came in contact with another obelisk like itself."
Zephyr was quite surprised after hearing those words.
"There are more such ’Obelisks’ in the world!?"
Layla nodded her head confidently after hearing that question.
"Yes, there are. As I said, the obelisk sometimes partially imparts ancient knowledge to its user at random times and moments..."
"During one of the previous knowledge impartation moments, the obelisk gave me information related to itself that stated there were other ’Obelisks’ like it scattered across the world..."
"I do not know their location or anything about the situation of the other ’obelisks,’ but I am quite sure that they most likely exist... the information given by the ’obelisk’ has never been false, and I am inclined to believe it."
Layla’s words struck Zephyr’s heart deeply; he could feel that he seemed to have found a new reason for himself to keep moving forward in this world.
’These mysterious obelisks might be my ’Key’ to returning home. I am going to travel the entire world anyways; it won’t be too troublesome if I collect these obelisks along the way...’
As if reacting to Zephyr’s thoughts, the tattoo on the back of his palm brightened as the obelisk stored inside trembled lightly in excitement.
’Is it reacting to my determination to find the other ’Obelisks’... Layla’s speculation about it reacting to the existence of other ’Obelisks’ might really turn out to be true...’
’I will need to find a second one to confirm my guess though...’

Zephyr could already guess that Layla had likely never encountered this lively reaction from the Obelisk before because of her weird way of treating it.
’Thrown in a volcano, dropped from the sky... no wonder the Obelisk was so eager to jump ships and leave Layla to join me on my expedition instead.’
’It seems to have some basic level of self-consciousness in it and can likely judge who is more worth following between Layla and Zephyr...’
Seeing Zephyr fall into contemplation, Layla smiled a bit and spoke,
"I have already told you all I know about the ’Obelisk’... all the rewards that you got from the trial, including the space ring, are yours to keep."
"I just want to thank you for helping me get rid of my burden... so treat them as my ’thank you gift’ for you..."
Zephyr nodded his head at Layla’s words and accepted the generosity without hesitation.
’I wasn’t going to return them anyways, but if she’s already willing to give them to me, then I don’t need to hesitate at all.’
’Beggars can’t be choosers; as long as I can keep the items, I can barely forgive her for the horrible trial I had to go through to get here...’
Just when Zephyr was busy thinking about various things in his mind, Xinran put down the empty tea cup in her hand and stood up from her seat.
"Well, if you guys are done with your chit-chat, it’s about time to part ways and get going."
Only when Xinran spoke those words did Zephyr realize that the main reason for coming to this building, which was the search for water, had already been completed, and now there was no more reason to stay here anymore.
"Ah, about that, you two can stay here for tonight if you want actually-"
Before Layla could even finish her sentence, Xinran immediately shook her head and denied the request.
"No way am I going to sleep in the same house as an old witch like you; who knows what shady stuff you would do at night."
"Let’s go, Zephyr; we should get going. This isn’t an ideal place to stay at all. If you stayed here, this man-eating vixen would eat you alive without leaving even bones!"
Ignoring Xinran’s words, Layla spoke in a calm tone.
"You are heading to the Royal Capital next, right? I recently salvaged some old relics related to the royal family. Can you bring them back with you and put them back in their place for me?"
Hearing those words, Xinran’s eyes narrowed.
"Who told you I was going to the royal capital? I will go wherever I want to go! It has nothing to do with you!"
Although she said that, Xinran didn’t deny that she was heading to the royal capital next.
"The relics were salvaged just a few days ago from a hidden outpost that seemed to have once been used for storing lots of old relics from a long-gone past..."
"They hold significant historical value."

"I would be done examining them all by tonight and would like you to return them to their original owners on my behalf."
Xinran frowned after hearing those words.
"When did someone like you become so interested in old relics? Are you pranking me right now?"
Layla shook her head and replied calmly,
"Don’t forget that I was also an ’adventurer’ at a time. I have always had a keen eye on the value of the relics found in those old dungeons and ruins..."
"The relics this time seem to belong to an extinct branch of the royal family, and according to my current speculations, these relics involve a deep secret of the royal family..."
"Once you are in the capital, you can investigate all of it on your own; maybe you might even end up finding those missing powerful artifacts of the royal family."
"You are going to head to the royal capital either way; why not give this a try? Who knows if you might end up being lucky this time? But well, the choice is yours..."
Hearing those words, Xinran contemplated for a while before agreeing to the matter.
"Fine, I will stay for one more night but not in this shady place of yours. I will meet you at the village’s main gate tomorrow morning. Hand the relics over to me in then..."
"Let’s go, Zephy~"
With that said, Xinran spread out her massive bat wings and, without even waiting for Zephyr to reply, flew away from the rooftop of the building at a fast speed.
