Chapter 874: Chapter 460: She Seduced Someone Else’s Husband, She Is a Fox Spirit (2)
"Then let me cover this meal," Joshua Hughes said generously.
"This meal? It doesn’t even cost a hundred bucks. Are you sure you’re okay with that? I’ll treat. You still owe me this favor." He didn’t want Joshua Hughes to dismiss him so easily.
"But Joshua, have you noticed? The Yates Family’s second wife kept emphasizing the existence of a blind ghost, and you... and Madam Hughes seemed to nearly faint upon hearing about this blind ghost. There’s definitely something wrong here," Alexander King said, retracting his playful demeanor, now serious and solemn.
Joshua Hughes’ expression turned a bit grave: "She’s certainly not going to say anything. We’ll have to go find Harper Johnson."
He glanced at Alexander King, almost blurting out "your mom," but stopped himself. He disliked Grace Roe, so much so that he didn’t want to even call her mother, especially after what she dared to do on the ship this time. She knew he wouldn’t eat candies, as he’d never liked various sweets since childhood, and understood venomous snakes couldn’t harm him, because he’s been through terrifying tests before. All of this dreadful conspiracy was aimed at Avery Jane.
"Joshua, I always feel like this matter isn’t simple; there must be something hidden," Alexander King put down the fried dough stick, looking worriedly at Joshua Hughes: "The Yates Family’s second wife surely won’t talk either; she’ll do anything for her daughter."
"I naturally have ways to make her talk. Within two days, I’ll ruin the foundation of the Yates Family, destroy everything of Brian Yates, and wait for her to come to me and clarify things herself," Joshua Hughes said indifferently while sipping his porridge, picking up some sausage rolls, unaffected in the least. He didn’t like Brian Yates anyway, and this was the perfect chance to completely destroy him, ensuring the Yates Family never recovers, and also help that little fool Avery Jane get some justice.
It was the most intense, terrifying, yet maddeningly sweet dream, but upon waking up, he was already gone. There had been such craziness before, he often would be by her side, but today was different; he had been gone for long, and the side of the bed had turned cold. She started to feel uncomfortable with this sensation.
Her petite body curled up in the blanket, she slowly sat up, the body reminding her of the soreness from the night’s passion, confirming that last night wasn’t a dream. The light in the room had dimmed, leaving her unsure of the hour, with clear eyes scanning the room, she turned on the light, finding it was almost dusk.
She had slept the entire day. Today, she hadn’t gone to work, picking up her phone from the bedside, there were several missed calls, the phone having been set to silent by Joshua Hughes when he left; the last text message read: "Call me when you wake."
This man, even leaving a note seemed simple yet domineering, with a tone impossible to resist.
She got out of bed, and the disheveled sheets with some marks revealed last night’s intense situation; the bruises and intertwining marks on her skin left her standing in front of the wardrobe mirror, feeling a deep sense of alarm as she changed.
She dared not look at her body this way, as it would remind her of everything from yesterday; she was too indulgent last night.
Putting on a large, soft robe, tying a knot at the waist after freshening up, she then moved to the living room where a large warm box was on the table.
Smiles spread across her lips like enticing pear blossoms, reaching out to open it, finding several exquisite black food boxes with gold patterns inside.
Every dish was delicately made, not plentiful but enough to make anyone’s mouth water. He was indeed thoughtful; these seemed like lunch dishes, though he wouldn’t expect her to sleep till evening.
She picked up the phone and dialed out...
"Hello?" A voice sounded tired and weak, tinged with sourness and a subtly ticklish sensation, making the man receiving the call feel his bones soften bit by bit, curling his thin lips into a mesmerizingly charming smile.
"Awake?" The lights in the office were still on, with the entire Yates Family’s financial statements and related business documents laid out before him; economically crushing a not-so-large company was no challenge for him.
"Mm." Avery Jane replied softly, somewhat embarrassed, as she answered lightly. She took food from the large warm box, chewing in small bites.
