Chapter 859: Chapter 450: This Is Truly a Hard-Fought Battle (Part 2)

Joshua Hughes didn’t say another word. His face stayed calm, but his eyes were so sharp it felt like they could pierce straight through a person’s heart. Very soon, someone rushed out of the room, cheering as they found the first star. Watching the joyful smiles on the screen, Joshua’s eyes grew even darker. On the surface, everything looked so perfect, so dazzling and glamorous, yet this ship was already hiding a darkness no ordinary person could see. Even he, up to now, only sensed the stench of a conspiracy, but still couldn’t catch the black hand behind it all......

On a cruise ship this huge that could hold four or five thousand people, hiding one or two people wasn’t hard at all. But how had they known he would make a move early this morning? Joshua’s somber gaze slowly moved to the person in charge, as if he were going to peel off the man’s skin bit by bit, staring him down from head to toe. The manager felt like he’d fallen into an ice cellar, so scared he could barely get a word out.

"Mr. Hughes, I didn’t, I didn’t....." He didn’t even know what he wanted to say, his upper and lower teeth chattering as he stared at Joshua’s cold, austere, terrifying face.

"For the next two days you stay on the second floor, and keep a close eye on the lowest level staff quarters. If anything feels off, you report to me immediately. And don’t say a word about what happened today." Joshua finished speaking and walked out of the monitoring room. The manager’s body went limp as he collapsed into the chair. He’d been so scared he was drenched in sweat, as if he’d just been dragged out of the water.......

"What do we do, he’s already suspicious?" The woman’s voice trembled. A musty smell spread through the dark room, making it unbearable. She’d never lived in such a dump in her whole life. Joshua Hughes hadn’t played that game today for nothing; his goal had been to find them. Luckily they’d acted a step earlier, or the consequences would have been unimaginable.

"Mr. Hughes is a dragon among men, clever beyond the ordinary. It’s only natural he would notice something. But what we should really do is drown that woman in the sea. That way, she and the ghost inside her body will never be reborn. Otherwise, Mr. Hughes will still be in danger in the future." The man’s voice sounded like it came from underground, icy and dried-out, without the slightest rise or fall, and with no trace of emotion crossing through it.

"But right now we have no chance at all, that woman lives on the top floor." The woman’s voice held both anxiety and helplessness.

"We must find an opportunity. That woman is already possessed by a ghost. Mr. Hughes will become more and more obsessed with her, and in the end he’ll hand over the entire Hughes Family to her." His words seemed to carry a hint of hypnosis, cold and bewildering.

Yes, he’d already gone crazy for that woman, doing such irrational things. A few days ago he’d even taken a necklace out of the Hughes Family vault to give to her. No woman was allowed to wear Hughes Family jewelry before marrying into the family, yet Joshua kept breaking the family rules for her. There would definitely be bigger and more trouble to come........

"I’ve done the calculations. We may need to act as soon as possible. The ghost on her carries too much resentment, it’s already made Mr. Hughes completely lose his reason. If we wait any longer, we might not get another chance. Other than snake venom, her greatest fear is water, so sending her to the bottom of the sea is just as good." The icy voice let out two dry laughs. "We’ll be docking soon. That will be our last chance. Mr. Hughes is so enchanted with her that once we’re back, he’ll definitely find a team of trustworthy people to protect her. Then we won’t stand a chance."

Not a single ray of sunlight entered the gloomy room. They didn’t even dare to pull open the curtains, let alone open the window. The terrifying stench of conspiracy grew thicker and thicker......

:"Joshua, I’ve checked all the bank transactions of these two men over the past six months, as well as the accounts of all their family members and women. Very strange—both of their accounts suddenly had an extra five hundred thousand deposited some days ago. And there’s something even stranger, guess what?" Alexander King looked at the report in his hand. Joshua Hughes was definitely in trouble, and this opponent was no ordinary figure; his work was almost watertight.

"It’s not just the two of them. It’s four." Joshua’s fingers tightened around the phone, his knuckles turning white.

"As expected of the chairman of the Hughes Clan listed group. Impressive."

The person behind this had already anticipated he would discover an inside man among the bodyguards, so they’d made preparations early and laid down a maze of illusions.

This was shaping up to be a tough battle. The backgrounds of these bodyguards were all very well concealed. If Joshua hadn’t provided Alexander with their information, even he wouldn’t have been able to investigate so quickly. Yet the man behind the scenes could easily get hold of their bank account numbers.

"They haven’t shown any special movements recently, nor have they come into contact with any particularly suspicious people. Joshua, these guys are not easy to handle. When it comes to counter-surveillance, you could say they’re even more professional than we are." Alexander had stayed up all night, and there weren’t many suspicious points he could dig up.

:"The only somewhat unusual thing is that one of their mothers died two weeks ago, and they held a ritual ceremony, that’s it. But you know these men don’t believe in that stuff." Alexander mentioned that bodyguard’s name. Joshua’s brows slowly furrowed. A ritual, a string of Buddha Beads on his wrist, a strange look on his face—these things all seemed to be linked together. In fact, when the fog grows thickest is when it’s about to disperse. Joshua pressed his lips into a thin line and gazed out toward the distant sea, deep in thought.......

Maybe the answer was about to be revealed soon. He hoped he could get rid of all this trouble quickly, then quietly enjoy the vacation with Avery Jane. That would be the best outcome.
