Chapter 43: More plans

Carmen’s POV

He backed away but he didn’t leave.

"You can leave, but this is not over," he said, but I was already walking past him as fast as I could. I was drenched, and my dress was still zipped down behind me, but that was the last thing on my mind. I didn’t care as I practically ran straight back to my room, closing the door behind me as I dropped to the ground.

"Idiot! Idiot!" I cursed under my breath as I held my hands to my head, wondering how the one man I promised myself to stay away from was suddenly the person whose hands I willingly allowed. Lips and tongue too.

"I forget myself," I whispered under my breath, stopping myself in time before I slapped myself as I slowly straightened back up, heading to the bathroom and running hot water into the tub before I sank into it.

Worse was the fact that I could still feel the sensation of his lips against my breasts, his hands and tongue in my mouth. A moment was all it took for me to realize that I was sexually attracted to Nico, rolling my head back as I closed my eyes.

"Shit!" I muttered again under my breath. It was one thing to act uninterested and a completely different thing to allow him—utterly kiss him—then act uninterested. In his place, I would be just as pissed too.

Lathering my body with soap as fast as I could, the thought of masturbating came to me and I erased it, aware that Nico would be the only thing on my mind. The bath was much faster than I wanted it as I pulled on my nightgown before heading to bed.

Different thoughts flashed through my mind, yet the one at the top of it was Nico. Ignoring and trying to distance myself wouldn’t work. Sleeping with him was a disaster waiting to happen, I thought as I dived into bed.

But I had just settled on the bed, staring at the glittering lights on the ceiling, when I frowned. "Is sleeping with him really a bad thing?" I muttered to myself, realizing that if it was simply sex, then it should be fine, right? The thought that Nico was someone I could fall in love with never having crossed my mind.

I loved the feel of his hands on me, but it was simply because he was experienced. He knew where to touch and how to ignite passion with a woman, which was expected. There was no rule that said that sleeping together wasn’t...

"But he’s my stepbrother," I wondered aloud. Legally, we were family, and if Bianca was the bitch I knew her to be, things could be worse than that, rolling to the side as I buried my head into the pillow. "Nico of all fucking people..." I muttered under my breath. "Carmen!!!!" I groaned loudly into the pillow as I rolled over to the other side, squeezing the pillow as hard as I could.

I stayed on the bed for a while until I could no longer lie down in peace, yanking the blankets off as I headed towards the huge dressing room in my room, picking up a book and a pen, which I began to scribble in.

Goals.

{Kill father’s killer and earn the other 50% of father’s assets}

{Pay Nico back somehow} I scribbled, knowing that if he asked me to kiss him for half my debt, I would do it.

{Settle in my territory safe and sound}

I scribbled down with a full stop, unable to think of anything else I wanted, ignoring the desires I felt. I could simply pick any good-looking man and it would be the same.

Writing it down helped, and I was able to calm down before shutting the book and heading on back to bed, pulling the blanket over me as I allowed myself to drift off to sleep as peacefully as I could.

*********

Nico’s POV

I couldn’t sleep. More to do with the pressure in my trousers, which was yet to go down, and the fact that it took all I could summon not to head straight to her room and take more.

"I am acting like a horny teenager!" I muttered under my breath as I got up from my bed and headed out of the room, aware that sleep wasn’t going to come anytime soon as I headed off to my study, with Martin, the head of my security, who had been waiting by the door, moving to immediately follow me—something I found funny.

My gun was strapped underneath the shirt I now wore as I slowly headed there, speaking to him more amused than I thought. "Tell me, Martin, if someone offered you a life-changing amount, would you at least warn me before you betrayed me?" I asked, making an allusion to what happened to Gotti. There was no way the attack would have worked if most of the people that surrounded him hadn’t betrayed him. Worse was the fact that whosoever was involved was closer than he thought.

"...you know I would never betray you, boss," Martin responded with deep gusto from behind me, and I simply nodded my head. It wasn’t like there was anything else he could say, especially because I also trusted him. For that information, I would match the offer.

Especially since, while most people thought me to simply be a Mafia don of a territory in Marcelle City, I was also one of the top members of the Gallias cartel. Money wasn’t a problem for me as one of their top enforcers.

I headed into my study, and Martin followed me, dropping into the seat around the table as I popped open a bottle of wine. Pouring him and myself a cup and handing it to him before I began to speak.

"Gotti is still alive. They haven’t attacked again?"

"Whosoever they are, they are being extra careful. The resources thrown into his assassination were a lot. They must be reeling that they failed," Martin responded as he sipped the wine in his glass with a severe expression on his face.

Aware that the only reason he could sit there in front of me was because of how close he was to me. Customarily, he should stand until he was dismissed.

"My bets are on Vito. If they attack again, they’ll have to make sure it succeeds or they’ll become a joke," he said, and I listened as I sipped slowly from my glass.

"That’s good! Keep an eye on Bianca and Gordon like usual. Gotti too. I don’t want anything to happen without me being aware of it," I told him, and Martin nodded his head, gulping the contents of his cup before rising to his feet.

"Of course, boss," he said with a small bow as I gestured for him to leave, but his shift had long been over. He had just stepped out, closing the door behind him, when I dropped to my seat by the window with a huge table in front of me and reports I needed to go through.

Breathing out a deep sigh, I poured myself another drink instead.
