Chapter 87: Am I racist?

’So the name of this evolution of his is Ebon Guardian. Why does this evolution sound underwhelming compared to its previous one?’ Dhruv wondered.

He was about to inquire of Alaric if there might have been a better option than this, but he stopped mid-way when he noticed the "Variant Asteri" tag beside the species name.

"Perhaps he chose this option because it was the only one available with the variant option or maybe it was truly the best choice," Dhruv thought. He decided not to ask Alaric about the situation to avoid any potential awkwardness in the conversation.

As Dhruv delved into Alaric’s status, he realized that there weren’t any massive changes. He felt a mix of happiness and perhaps even a little bit of envy when he noticed his long list of skills. After looking at it for a while it became apparent that Alaric wasn’t just upgrading his previous skills but also buying new ones, which was a pretty good habit.

What surprised Dhruv was the two new additional body parts that Alaric has, which he can further mutate.

"One could be a reward for the evolution, which means the second is from..." Dhruv paused, glancing towards Alaric, and then asked, "Alaric, was there a feature known as manual evolution during your evolution?"

"Yes, master, there was this feature, and it came just after choosing the evolution. Is there something wrong with this?" Alaric replied.

"No... No, there isn’t anything wrong," Dhruv assured him. "I was just curious if you had acquired a new organ."

"Yes, I purchased an organ called Endless Stomach, and its function is to allow me to eat more and digest faster so I can accumulate essence points," Alaric explained.

Dhruv understood the reasoning behind Alaric’s choice, as he had similar plans for the future. He checked his own status once more and felt satisfied with his overall arrangement. Then, he looked at Alaric and said...

"You have done a great job Alaric, keep improving just like this."

"T-Thank you very much master" Alaric replied with a happy expression.

He continued to talk for a few more minutes with Alaric about the various skills he could learn to aid himself. Afterward, he shifted his attention towards Azarex, and thought of opening his status...

’So this evolution is a continuation of his previous one, and he was fortunate to get it in a variant form as well,’ Dhruv thought to himself. He breathed a sigh of relief when he realized he had received a better evolution than his previous one.

Considering his stats alone, Dhruv estimated that Azarex’s evolution had granted him a total of 120 stat points: 40 in stamina and magical abilities, and 20 in both strength and agility. This was a greater increase than what Alaric had received, as his evolution only rewarded him with 80 stat points.

Dhruv also noticed that Azarex was also diligently leveling up his skills and buying new ones.

Upon further inspection, Dhruv discovered that Azarex hadn’t purchased any additional organs and had only acquired one new organ, likely as a gift from his evolution. Dhruv found the name of the organ interesting so, he clicked on it.

[Unholy Cortex: Located within the Greater Unholy Revanent skull, the Unholy Cortex is a specialized organ that allows for precise and advanced control over undead minions. It enhances the Deathlord’s telepathic connection with their undead thralls and grants them the ability to coordinate and manipulate these minions with unparalleled finesse.]

"Wow, a control-type organ. With this, the number of undead he can control must have increased once again," Dhruv thought after reading the organ’s description.

After carefully looking over it once again, he found nothing amazing, except for the number of coins he possessed. Dhruv Praised Azarex as well and moved on to Vexar.

’Let’s see what type of shit you are cooking’ Dhruv thought, anticipating a shock as he opened Vexar’s status.

Dhruv was genuinely surprised by the fact that there wasn’t any weird thing present on his status.

’Why did I think there would be something unusual about his status? Did I just become racist?’ Dhruv questioned himself, feeling a bit puzzled by his own expectations.

’I’m sorry.’ he apologized in his mind and began looking at his stats seriously.

Upon reviewing Vexar’s status, Dhruv realized that his evolution was a continuation of his previous one, and he too had been fortunate to obtain the Asteri variant.

Vexar had got a decent upgrade in his stats as well. Coming further down there wasn’t any new addition to him. Despite his naivety, he had also upgraded his skills and bought a few new ones.

As Dhruv shifted his gaze away from the status panel and was about to compliment Vexar for his good performance, but had to stop midway when he saw something weird in his peripheral vision...

Dhruv noticed that there were several humans standing on the shore of his island. Among them, there was a group leader, and strangely enough, the leader appeared to be a blind person.

Before he could make up any more features of this group, a notification rang in his head...
