Chapter 318: Eternal Greater Lich
...
Death Knight (Rare): Not content with only using magic, you can now bring others to eternal slumber with your own hand. After this evolution, you will become a fearsome warrior of the undead, clad in cursed armor and wielding a soul-draining weapon.
You will begin to forget magic as you adapt enhanced combat skills. Your attacks will drain life from your enemies, and you can summon spectral steeds to do your bidding as well.
+80 in Strength, +30 in Agility, and +25 in Stamina, along with the organ [Knight’s Heart], will be provided as a reward for taking this evolution.]
...
’A Death Knight... Nah! I don’t like pure physical evolution,’ Azarex thought after reading the description of the evolution.
If the evolution were to give even a little bit of a Magic Power boost, then he could’ve at least thought about it... but a pure physical evolution wasn’t something he was looking for.
[Knight’s Heart: A heart is what a knight needs the most. Enhances combat skills and life-draining capabilities.]
Shaking his head as he read the description of the organ, Azarex clicked on the last and arguably the best evolution.
...
Eternal Greater Lich (Epic): You will evolve into the supreme ruler of the undead, wielding unparalleled necromantic power. Your mere presence commands death while you drain life just from your gaze. The command you have over death is absolute.
You will gain perfect mastery over necromancy. You can command many undead with perfect coordination. The portal to powerful dark spells also opens.
+110 in Magic Power, +55 in Stamina, and +45 in Agility, along with the organs [Undead Phylactery Runes] and [Heart of the Lich King], will be provided as a reward for taking this evolution. The evolutionary energy needed to buy death-related organs will be halved.]
...
A cheeky smile appeared on Azarex’s skull as he read the description of the evolution. In his words, it was just perfect. Perfect. It had everything he was looking for in an evolution.
’Perfect mastery over necromancy... there is additional dark magic as well. A great boost in magic power. I get two free organs as well. And there will be a discount during my mutation session as well.’
Azarex thought as the smile on his skull continued to get broader and broader. With much hope, he clicked on the first organ he was getting.
[Undead Phylactery Runes: An rune will be carved on both your hands, which will act as a portal. With the help of Undead Phylactery Runes, you can store undead in a separate place.]
"Hahaha! This is perfect... just perfect," Azarex whispered as he read the description of the organ.
Being a necromancer, most of his strength lies in his undead. But until now, there was no easy way for him to transport his undead. They could follow him, but that easily became problematic.
This clearly became obvious in this dungeon where he didn’t have undead to do his bidding. Due to not having any undead,, he was almost beaten to death. But now... all those problems were solved. He could just store his undead in the rune.
With clear satisfaction, he clicked on the last organ.
[Heart of a Greater Lich: Provides near-immortality and vastly increased magical resilience.]
"I get it but what does this mean exactly..." Azarex couldn’t help but scratch his skull as he read the description.
He understood the magical resilience part, but just from reading the description, he couldn’t understand how exactly this near-immortality would work. Even after thinking for a while, he couldn’t figure out anything.
Azarex closed the window and took a deep breath. Looking at the evolution options, he sighed.
"I guess there is not much for me to choose from," he thought, looking at the options.
[Do you want to select Eternal Greater Lich (Epic) as your evolution for Tier IV?]
Azarex nodded without any hesitation.
[Congratulations! You have reached Tier IV and can perform manual evolution. Would you like to continue?]
Nodding, Azarex waited as numerous panels appeared in front of him. To check whether his sacrifice was worth it or not, he looked at how much evolutionary energy he has.
"Hehehehe! I knew it... it was all worth it." A sinister laugh escaped his mouth as he evaluated how much his energy had increased.
If Dhruv were here, he would have cried tears of blood looking at his guardian’s evolutionary energy. Azarex had gotten a total of eleven times more than what he had gotten in the third tier.
Looking at it, he couldn’t help but giggle some more. After laughing for a bit, Azarex finally calmed down a bit. Full of excitement, he began to scroll through the panel, choosing organs without any limitation.
He was going on a shopping spree.
As he was scrolling through the options, Azarex found the organ he was very much interested in: [Phylactery of Souls].
"Huh! Good, I can get this organ as well... Well shit, why is this so expensive?"
As Azarex was going to confirm the organ, he found the price for the organ. This single organ was going to cost him a total of 1/11th of his evolutionary energy.
Since the organ was worth it, he clicked on confirm and moved on, finding new organs with each passing moment.
As time passed, his cart began to get full of all sorts of organs. Some of them are as follows:
[Necrotic Brain: Infused with dark energies, this brain enhances the user’s ability to cast and control necromantic spells. With a more mutated brain, it will be easier to control more and more undead.]
[Nether Hands: Hands that radiate dark energy, capable of channeling immense necromantic power. Enhances the precision and power of spellcasting. A mere touch from them is capable of planting corruption inside.]
[Ghoul’s Stomach: A stomach capable of digesting the essence of the dead very quickly and effectively.]
[Ebon Eyes: Eyes that see into the realm of the dead, allowing the user to perceive and interact with spirits and otherworldly entities. Improves perception of mana.]
Similar to them, Azarex continued to choose organs one after another. After selecting ten of them, he finally calmed down. Even after choosing this many organs, there was still plenty of evolutionary energy left, so he decided to use it to increase his stats.
After doing some more work, it was time to finish the evolution. A final notification appeared in front of him to make the confirmation. Without any hesitation, Azarex nodded.
With his movement, the realm shivered as well. Within seconds, it folded itself around its master.
