Chapter 280: Fair... As Everything Should Be

Seconds passed as Azarex finally came back to his senses. A frown appeared as he looked at his right side. His hand was gone... There was no way he could attach all those broken pieces back to himself.

Not having much time to mourn over his missing limb, Azarex cast [Life Drain]. Energy began to drain from living and dead as he could feel new vitality flowing into him.

Azarex could feel his soul getting healed, but the process was slow. Even though it is slow he knows it was better than nothing at least.

"&^% ^%$ &^%"

The Crystallce roared, sending a shard of ice trying to slice him in half. In response to the attack, Azarex cast a darkness barrier with his left hand.

As the fight continued he began to find it harder and harder to succeed in his plan. Desperation clawed at him as he began to search for anything that could be useful.

Suddenly his gaze landed on a particular spot on the ground. A small monster was in the embrace of another bigger one. He could see marks of heavy injury on the bigger monster... which would have protected it from becoming undead.

But the little one... The little one was..

’He is alive.’ He was shocked to find that the small monster was still alive.

Azarex didn’t know how that small monster was alive... but he didn’t care. It was perfect that it had lived. A smirk appeared on his face as he fit this new piece into his plan.

Using [Better Control], Azarex enhanced the precision and focus of all the left undead and sent all the remaining to one of the Crystallce.

’Death’s aura’ Manipulating his mana, Azarex activated the death aura to full power. This time, instead of spreading it apart, he manipulated it in a small region increasing its potency.

Due to pressure from Azarex and the undead, the Crystallions didn’t have a choice but to take a few steps back.

The misty air once again filled the area with full force as the monsters tried to regain their ground. In just a few seconds they succeeded, and the black mist returned to nothingness.

Not wanting to give the monster even a little bit of time, Azarex forgoes saving his mana and begins to use it at maximum power.

’Enhanced Bone Shards.’ Tens of enhanced bones began to rain, as the monsters were forced to encase themselves in a layer of ice.

Using this distraction, Azarex began to prepare for his next move. He had to weaken it even further. Summoning all his strength, he compressed his mana as fast as possible and prepared a [Enhance Death Bolt].

The moment their shield lowered, he hurled it toward a Crystallce. The bolt struck the second monster, the energy corroding its crystalline form. It howled in pain as the dark magic slowly seeped into its core.

The other two quickly noticed that Azarex was strictly focusing on one of them. instead of protecting their brethren they quickly used it as an opportunity to distance themselves from him.

They were trying to surround him from three sides.

Encouraged by the effect of his spell, Azarex pressed on that monster instead of focusing on others for the moment. As his attack continued... he began to see fractures forming in its icy body, the ghastly mana eating away at it.

But the other two monsters were closing in, their icy breath chilling him. Azarex knew he needed to act quickly.

"^#$% &^#%"

Azarex quickly cast the darkness shield as two ice claws came his way, trying to bind him. The claws collided with the shield, but this time the ice didn’t shatter. They continued to press forward, hellbent on crushing him to death.

’No... no...’ Azarex couldn’t help but curse the timing.

The curse continued as he saw something horrifying in front of him. could see that the monster he had injured this much had gotten some sort of liquid from his clothes and was drinking it.

Azarex wasn’t sure of the contents, but he knew he had to act now or his chances would slip to none. All his work would be for nothing.

Azarex wanted to follow the plan, but the problem was that both of the monsters were on his tail...

The barrier could hold itself, even without the mana channeling, but it would only last for two or three seconds. The question was, could Azarex succeed in a few seconds?

Can he do it?

’Curses, it’s now or never...’ Saying this, Azarex let go of his control over the shield and closed his eyes.

"[Soul Tether]!" A whisper left his mouth again as his body went limp, dropping to the ground without any support.

Suddenly, the eyes of a monster lying on the ground opened. Looking around, he smiled. Gazing in a certain direction, he began to slither there.

Reaching one of the royal guards of his town, the monster grabbed one of its legs. Gripping it with all his strength, he whispered,

"[Life Drain]."

"[Aura of Death]."

Life began to drain from the Crystallce and it began to fill with the death aura at the same time. Both spells worked simultaneously, and the light from his blue eyes quickly faded.

His eyes remained lightless only for a few moments as darkness filled them instantly.

A smile appeared on the monster’s mouth as it looked at its creation with full contempt. Tapping his undead back twice, the soul left the body and reached its original location.

The skeleton gained its life once again.

Before doing anything else, Azarex cast a shield of darkness protecting himself from the ongoing barrage. Having a second to catch his breath, he inspected himself, trying to judge how much damage he had taken.

’Phew, I really was seconds away from dying...’ he heaved a sigh of relief after assessing the damage.

One of his ribs was crushed, barely hanging. He could feel cracks in his skull. As the Crystallce intentionally attacked his core, the area around it was a total mess.

It was nothing one should feel relieved about. But Azarex... he was just happy to be alive. Or dead, perhaps?

Removing the shield, he looked at the monster. He could see the shock on their faces. Their expression was as if they couldn’t believe their partner had been tainted by darkness.

Looking at them, Azarex muttered with a smile, "Shall we go for round 2? This time 2v2. Fair... as everything should be."
