Chapter 267: Being In Debt
"Finally, everyone seemed to calm down," Alaric muttered under his breath as he observed the island with the help of his shadow sense, a basic technique he had been practicing.
Due to the attack from the monsters, there was a wave of panic going around the island. They weren’t panicked because they were afraid of fighting the monsters... no... that couldn’t be the case.
After all, all of them had seen and survived the second quest, becoming something more than capable of facing and fighting a wave of monsters.
The real reason they were panicked was that the attack had happened in a truly untimely manner. First of all, all of their best warriors were out of the village.
Second, and most importantly, they weren’t expecting something like this to happen.
After experiencing the power and care of their lord, they had somewhat relaxed. Relaxed to the point that they... they began to get careless.
Now that reality had once again hit them, their minds had begun to come to their senses, resulting in them being panicked over the situation. But as the hour passed, even the panic didn’t last long, and they slowly began to accept the situation better.
’What should we do now? The task given by the master still hasn’t finished, and now there has been an attack on the island as well,’ Alaric thought as he opened the status window for the quest.
’The time remaining for the third quest isn’t long either,’ he thought as he turned to look in a particular direction.
Peering through the fog, his gaze landed on something particular. Some distance away from him, the magic portal that had ripped reality was silently whispering to him to challenge it.
Knowing that there was no point in delaying the inevitable, he quietly sent a mental signal to the duo, Vexar, and Grec, calling them to a meeting.
Even though Alaric had sent messages to both of them separately, he knew that even if he sent it to only one of them, there wouldn’t be any problem. After all, for some reason, one could always find both of them together.
At first, Alaric found it weird that both of his brothers were spending so much time together. But after quietly observing them for the past few days, he couldn’t help but feel that it was only natural. After all, both of them seemed to complete each other.
Vexar just wants to fight...
Whereas Grec is just the opposite of him—he doesn’t want to fight but really wants... I mean really wants the reward one gets from killing the monster in sort coins.
These two obsessions of theirs have become the best medium that seemed to make their relationship flourish.
All Vexar wants is to fight opponents and train himself while sparring with strong opponents. While the latter didn’t produce any coins, he was anything but poor after fighting so many monsters.
The coins Vexar was getting from all the killing were doing nothing but sitting on his status. After all, he couldn’t use them to upgrade his stats like humans, and there weren’t any worthwhile swords on the Cosmic store either.
Curing this problem, Grec came as a savior and proposed that in return for coins, he would regularly spar with him.
Thinking that this was the perfect opportunity, Vexar quickly agreed. But not everything went as he had planned, and as time passed, it didn’t take him long to realize that he had fallen into a trap.
A trap that was meticulously built by his own brother.
After getting a perfect sparring partner, Vexar didn’t take note of his treasury that was getting emptier with each sparring session, and before he could notice, he was already bankrupt.
When this realization struck Vexar, he almost couldn’t hold back his tears. He was ready to venture into the unknown to earn coins anyhow. His addiction had gone to the point that he went to the slime farm and began to farm coins there for himself.
Only when he got scolded by Alaric did he come to his senses. After that, he just began to mindlessly travel on the island, trying to find another sparring partner.
But no matter how much he looked, there wasn’t anyone who could satisfy his hunger for battle. After so much training, Vexar had reached a point where not even Alaric was his opponent.
Only Dhruv, because of his stats and numerous other advantages, and Grec, due to being tier IV, were a match for him.
After seeing his brother in this much pain, Grec couldn’t help but have another idea...
With a face full of smirk, he quickly laid out his plan to his brother like he was some sort of saint. ’What if you don’t have coins at the moment? You can always pay later... cough! Just with some interest, that is.’
Vexar didn’t find anything wrong with it and quickly accepted the proposal.
The demon lord didn’t know this, but this single decision of his was going to cost him so much in the future...
...Forget about the future; at the time being, he was already in 5 million CC worth of debt, which was rising each second.
’Those two are really weird...’ Alaric couldn’t help but think as he recalled their shenanigans.
After waiting for a minute or two, Alaric sensed two figures entering the house. Knowing the place well, they quickly turned towards the meeting room and sat in their respective seats calmly.
As this was the residence of their master, they didn’t dare do anything rash here.
Before Alaric could say what was on his mind, Vexar opened his mouth with slight annoyance, "What is it, brother..."
’Why does he seem annoyed? Did I call him when he was fighting? Must be something like that...’ Not paying too much attention to his brother’s annoyance, he replied,
"Don’t be annoyed, I have good news for you... So, Vexar, are you ready to conquer the spider dungeon?"
