Chapter 109: Perfect Spy!
"Ugh! He just died." The woman beside the man who had just been eaten by the slimes shouted in panic.
"What?!" another one asked in surprise.
"Fuck another one just lost his life in the hope of earning a few more coins." one of the old men said as he sneered.
"He had just come an hour ago. Let him rest beside you, my god." one of the men sighed as he bowed his head.
"Rest in peace."
"Rest i..."
"Res...."
Upon noticing these shoutings, the guards rushed over to investigate what had occurred and discovered that one of the men had died. They promptly relayed this message via their walkie-talkies to their higher-ups. After sending the message, they resumed their duties as if nothing had happened.
People had varying reactions to the death of the young man, but overall, there wasn’t much concern. And why wouldn’t that be after all this wasn’t the first death they had witnessed today and it wouldn’t be the last. Every few hours, one or two individuals lose their lives due to their carelessness.
Dhruv tried to look at who had just perished and put on a sorrowful expression. He did this to avoid arousing any suspicion about his reaction.
After a minute, his frown transformed into a smirk, and he thought to himself, ’First stage passed.’
...
From the shadows of a pillar, a being began to materialize into existence. Once fully formed, he didn’t linger there but swiftly dove into the shadow of one of the guards who was patrolling the area.
It was obvious that the one who had just materialized was none other than Alaric, who had just staged his own death.
As Alaric slipped into the guard’s shadow, he couldn’t help but think, ’How ingenious of my lord to think of this plan.’ Alaric was truly impressed by Dhruv’s clever strategy of faking his death by the slime’s attack, allowing him to escape the watchful eyes of the guards and cleverly infiltrate the gang.
He clearly remembered how, after falling into the swarm of slimes, he had skillfully exchanged his own body with the partially finished body of the bear. The half-eaten bore had the same resemblance, so nobody had raised any suspicions. He had managed to make his escape by slipping into the shadow which was all part of Dhruv’s plan.
After smoothly navigating through the shadows of a few more individuals, Alaric quickly found one of the gang members he had noticed during the kidnapping. After noticing him he quickly dived into his shadow.
He patiently waited in the shadow, hoping for an opportunity to meet with the boss so he could execute his plan after swapping into the boss’s shadow. He didn’t have to wait long, as after half an hour, he encountered the boss.
Upon encountering the boss, Alaric swiftly moved from the shadow of the gang member into the shadow of the boss, seamlessly blending in and moving with him.
As they continued, Alaric soon understood where the boss was going. he was headed toward the area where the individuals he had put to sleep with his spell were resting. Upon reaching the sleep area, the boss wasted no time. He cast the spell twice to ensure that nobody would wake up from their slumber.
After securing the sleep area, the boss hurried toward the weapon storage and stowed away the sword they had acquired from Vexar earlier in the day. As the boss moved towards the sword rack, Alaric, watching from the shadows, took the opportunity to glance around and noticed a vast array of weapons and armor in the armory.
The armory was well-organized, with a wide assortment of weapons neatly arranged in their designated sections. Alaric could see swords, bows, axes, daggers, scythes, and various other weapons, all meticulously placed, with nothing out of order.
After returning the sword to its proper place, the boss started making his way back to his office. While he was on his way, Alaric heard the sound of something ringing.
Tring! Tring! Tring!...
As the ringing echoed through the hall, the boss reached into his pocket and retrieved a rectangular device that was roughly the size of his palm.
After some focus Alaric’s quickly remembered that the device in question was called a smartphone. He wasn’t sure where this knowledge came from, but he had a surprisingly vast understanding of this world despite being "born" just a few days ago. One of his theories was that this knowledge came from the individuals whose bodies were used to create him, but nothing was certain.
The expression of the boss swiftly shifted to one of intense focus as he examined the smartphone. With a moment’s hesitation, he tapped the screen and then placed it beside his ear, saying,
"Hello," the boss greeted, then fell silent patiently listening to the voice on the other end.
Alaric couldn’t hear the exact words of the person on the call, but he could tell from the boss’s changing expression that the conversation wasn’t in his favor. The boss’s focused expression slowly faded into a frown.
After a minute of listening, the boss spoke in a slightly panicked tone, "I-I know, I’m trying my hardest, but they can’t accumulate half a million CC in a day. Please give me some time."
After saying that he began to anxiously await a response.
"..T-Thank y..you for understanding," the boss said after hearing the response. He fell silent once again and began to listen to the other person.
"...Yes, I have some weapons that I could sell as well. I want the same thing in exchange for them," the boss said politely.
"They will come tomorrow. Right, no problem," the boss said. After noticing the other person had already cut the connection he quickly returned the smartphone to his pocket.
Sigh!
The boss let out a sigh of relief and resumed his walk towards his office. Along the way, he encountered one of his partners and instructed him,
"Go and tell Simon to collect the coins from them and bring them to me after their rest... No, go and collect them now and transfer them to me. They will come tomorrow, so be ready."
Nodding in acknowledgment, the man promptly headed towards the hunting area to carry out the task.
The boss arrived at his office and hung up his suit. After doing so, he quickly settled into his chair and closed his eyes, intending to take a nap.
As he drifted into slumber, he suddenly sensed the room’s temperature dropping. Without his suit to keep him warm, he felt a chill and abruptly opened his eyes...
"WHAT?!" he exclaimed in shock as he realized that he was completely surrounded by darkness.
