Chapter 6: Like a Demon Crawled Out of Hell
The workers handled the Ironhide Boar’s corpse with weak hands, barely daring to breathe.
Joren stood where he was, wiping the blood from his blade with a dirty rag.
He raised his head. His eyes landed on Brann.
Brann jolted and answered at once.
"What is it?"
Joren’s gaze was calm, but the words he spoke made every scalp in the factory prickle.
"For the rest, can you skip the electric shock?"
"Release them directly."
The words fell.
The air inside the factory seemed to harden.
Several workers dragging the corpse slipped and almost fell. They stared at Joren as if they were looking at a madman.
Release them directly?
That last one had not been stunned. If this kid had not been so abnormal, someone would already be dead.
Brann’s mouth opened, but no words came out for a long while.
He looked at Joren’s blood stained yet serious face. His throat moved.
He took a hard drag from his cigarette, only snapping back when the ember burned his fingers.
His voice came out dry.
"You mean all nine of the remaining ones? No shock. Just release them and let you kill them?"
"Mm."
Joren nodded.
In Brann’s eyes, Joren already had the real strength of an Awakened Warrior.
And in this society, who dared go against an Awakened Warrior?
"Rowan!"
Brann roared toward the control station.
"Go turn off the electric gate."
Rowan trembled all over.
His voice shook as he shouted back.
"That is against the rules! Something will happen!"
"Do as he says!"
Brann cursed at him.
"I told you to open it, so open it!"
Rowan did not dare talk back. Shaking, he pressed the switch.
Boom.
The heavy iron gate slowly rose.
The Ironhide Boar scraped its hooves against the ground, then charged out with a foul gust of wind.
Joren shifted sideways, avoiding the tusks with perfect timing.
The short blade in his hand drew a cold arc through the air.
Pffft.
The blade entered through the Ironhide Boar’s eye socket and drove straight into its brain.
The momentum carried the beast forward several more meters before it crashed to the ground.
It twitched twice.
Then stopped.
Another instant kill.
"Next."
Joren’s voice sounded.
"Open it! Keep opening!"
This time, Joren did not strike right away.
The moment the Ironhide Boar rushed up to him, his body twisted at a strange angle. He slid past the metallic sheen of its hide with barely any space between them.
Its bristles scraped against his clothes with a harsh tearing sound.
At the instant they passed each other, the short blade in his hand stabbed backward.
It entered the softer part of the Ironhide Boar’s belly with precision.
Then he dragged it hard.
The beast was split open.
The huge Ironhide Boar staggered more than ten meters forward. Its organs spilled across the floor with a wet rush before it finally collapsed, unwilling but dead.
[Ding!]
[Feralborn Ironhide Boar killed successfully!]
[Bloodstars gained: 1.0 points.]
Another Bloodstar arrived.
Pure excitement showed on his face.
Joren licked his lips. The corner of his mouth spread wider.
Good.
So damn good.
Everyone in the factory saw it clearly.
They saw the blood covered youth reveal a look of satisfaction after slaughtering a vicious Voidbeast.
Almost pleasure.
A chill crawled up their backs.
Gulp.
One worker swallowed with difficulty. The iron hook in his hand slipped from his grip and clanged onto the floor.
"Is he smiling?"
"Is this kid some kind of freak?"
"He is addicted to killing Voidbeasts? Damn it, I have worked slaughter for twenty years, and this is the first time I have seen someone like this."
The hand holding Brann’s cigarette trembled slightly. He took another hard drag.
This one could only be treated with care.
He absolutely could not be offended.
Boom.
Joren moved faster and faster.
His methods also became simpler.
No more probing.
No extra movement.
Every strike went straight for a fatal point.
Eye socket.
Throat.
Heart.
One raging Ironhide Boar after another became cold corpses before him, and on his system panel, the numbers kept rolling upward.
[Bloodstars: 6.0]
Only four remained.
Joren flicked the blood from his blade and stood in place, breathing a little faster than before.
"Release them all at once."
The words landed.
Every pair of eyes filled with alarm, yet no one dared object.
Rowan clenched his teeth. His hands shook so badly he could barely hold the lever.
He shut his eyes and yanked it down.
Rumble!
The final gates opened at the same time.
Four Ironhide Boars that had been caged for far too long charged out roaring, savage anger burning in their crimson eyes.
The ground shook.
Four black shadows came from four different directions, carrying a force like a crashing tide as they rushed toward the only living thing in the center.
Every path of retreat was sealed.
Brann’s heart jumped to his throat. His eyes were stretched so wide they almost split.
Joren took one step forward toward the Ironhide Boar charging from the front.
The butcher blade in his hand rose from below in a perfect arc.
Pshk.
The edge cut cleanly through the Ironhide Boar’s throat.
Blood sprayed.
The beast did not even have time to cry out before its own momentum carried it more than ten meters away. It slammed into the floor.
One down.
In the next instant, the second boar had already reached his left side. Its sharp tusks stabbed toward Joren’s waist.
Joren did not look.
His hand reversed its grip, and the blade stabbed backward.
The tip entered the boar’s eye.
Straight into the brain.
Another huge body hit the ground.
The remaining two Ironhide Boars had already closed in.
Savage wind pressed in from the front and back.
Joren stomped the ground and launched himself upward.
In midair, his body twisted in a way that should not have been possible. His feet landed separately on the heads of the two charging Ironhide Boars.
Bang.
Bang.
The two racing Voidbeasts were forced sideways under his Great Strength. Their bodies lost balance and crashed into each other.
The impact thundered through the factory.
The moment Joren landed, he did not even look at the two boars left dazed by the collision.
He bent his knees.
Lowered his body.
The blade in his hand became two blurs.
Two strikes in a row pierced their hearts with perfect accuracy.
All dead.
From the opening of the gates to the fall of the last Ironhide Boar, the whole process took less than ten seconds.
The factory lay in a silence like death.
Only Joren’s slightly uneven breathing remained, along with the sound of blood dripping from the tip of his blade onto the concrete.
Drip.
Drip.
The sight made him look like a demon that had crawled out of hell.
