Chapter 57: Three S Class Treasures!
The Frontier Marshal’s office occupied the top floor of Antares Command.
It was less an office than a luxury suite.
A vast one way window overlooked the entire northern district of Norcrest, while a thick carpet made from mutated Snowfleece hide covered the floor. Every step sank into it like walking across clouds.
Joren dropped into the oversized chair behind the desk and spun around once.
Comfortable.
"Frontier Marshal, these are the proposed defense line adjustments for this quarter, the logistics department’s supply requests, and..."
Across the desk stood a middle aged man in a sharply pressed uniform and gold rimmed glasses.
Half a meter of documents rested in his arms.
His name was Strade.
The adjutant Manester had personally assigned to Joren.
Before taking this post, Strade had reportedly been the finest writer in Alkaid Authority’s classified records office.
He adjusted his glasses, noticed the crease forming between Joren’s brows, and smoothly pulled the entire stack back against his chest.
"Of course, none of these minor matters require your personal attention."
His delivery remained calm and efficient.
"The Commander gave me very clear instructions before sending me here."
"Your only responsibility is to cultivate and grow stronger."
"Document approval, coordination between departments, inspections from higher command, and other administrative work..."
Strade set the files on a side table and gave the stack a light pat.
"Leave all of that to me."
"You only need to appear at the monthly meeting, and perhaps sign something when the mood takes you."
Now that was professionalism.
Joren looked at the capable adjutant in front of him and silently gave Manester full marks.
"Excellent."
He tapped one finger against the desk.
"Use this office whenever you need it. I will call if something comes up."
"Understood."
Strade inclined his head, offered no unnecessary words, and left with the stack of documents.
The heavy soundproof door closed behind him.
The authority in Joren’s face disappeared at once.
Excitement took its place.
He raised his wrist and activated the tactical watch.
A holographic screen unfolded before him.
The interface had changed completely.
[Name: Joren]
[Position: Frontier Marshal of Antares Command and Sirius Bureau]
[Authority Level: S Class]
The golden lines of text pulled the corner of his mouth higher.
Yesterday, he had still been some nobody with the number J 1047.
Today, he commanded troops and held the highest level of access in the branch.
"A title may be useless, but S Class authority is very real."
Joren swept his fingers through the display and opened an icon that had always been grayed out.
[S Class Strategic Resource Vault]
This was the reward Manester had promised.
Any three treasures.
Normally, only commander level figures were permitted to draw from this vault.
It contained the finest strategic resources in Norcrest, and some of the best items held anywhere in the eastern war zone of the Aurelian Dominion.
[Identity verified.]
[Welcome, Frontier Marshal.]
[Available S Class selections: 3]
The catalog poured across the screen like a waterfall.
Joren only needed one glance before his breathing changed.
A Rank Six Beast Emperor crystal core.
Ancient Combat Arts recovered from prehistoric ruins.
Life Essence capable of regrowing a severed limb in moments.
Any single item would have driven ordinary Awakened Warriors into a frenzy.
Joren did not let the spectacle distract him.
He knew what he lacked.
His cultivation had reached peak Rank Three. His body was reinforced by [Heavenly Overlord Body Art] and [Undying Body].
Neither could make another qualitative leap in the immediate future.
The fastest way to raise his combat power now was obvious.
Better equipment.
He was like a fully developed character still carrying a wooden sword from the starting village.
The standard Black Gold blade was well made, but it had already begun struggling against Rank Four lords.
Against a Rank Five beast king, it would be nearly useless.
Worse, once [Primordial Bladebody] released its full edge, ordinary metal could not withstand the strain.
The weapon might explode before it ever touched the enemy.
"First, the blade."
Joren entered three filters.
Combat blade.
Heavy weapon.
S Class.
The list vanished, leaving only a handful of results.
His gaze moved across several weapons of wildly different designs before stopping on a simple straight blade made entirely of black metal.
[Name: Heaven’s Sin, S Class]
[Materials: Abyssal Silversteel Essence, spine of a peak Rank Five Earthsplitter Demon Bear, and meteoric iron]
[Weight: 1360 kilograms]
[Property One: Crushing Pressure. The blade possesses extreme density and generates a gravity field when swung, suppressing nearby targets.]
[Property Two: Indestructible. Capable of enduring Rank Six protective force without breaking.]
[Property Three: Armor Breaker. The heavy edge specializes in destroying reinforced armor.]
[Description: This weapon carries the weight of a mountain and cannot be wielded without monstrous strength. It offers no elaborate elemental enhancement. It is a pure instrument of slaughter, built around overwhelming hardness and overwhelming weight.]
"This one."
Joren snapped his fingers.
It might as well have been forged specifically for [Primordial Bladebody] and [Primal Might].
The Black Gold blade had always felt too light in his hand.
Like trying to stab someone with a toothpick.
Over a thousand kilograms of weight, combined with his strength at full release...
Even if Heaven’s Sin failed to cut the Flame Brutebull, one strike would still flatten it into paste.
"Confirm exchange."
[Ding! Exchange successful.]
Joren moved straight to the second selection.
A psionic weapon.
His Nightshade throwing knives had been destroyed, and he needed a replacement.
One set caught his eye almost immediately.
The weapons resembled the transparent wings of some strange insect.
[Name: Voidshard Array, S Class]
[Materials: Void Crystal and the wings of a Rank Four mutated Ghostface Cicada]
[Configuration: Set of 36 blades]
[Property One: Formless. Completely transparent during flight and produces no disturbance in the air. A true invisible killer.]
[Property Two: Formation. All 36 blades may combine into a single longsword or separate into an array.]
[Description: Wherever the void passes, all life is severed.]
Joren watched the demonstration.
Transparent blades filled the air, killing without ever revealing where they had come from.
A low whistle escaped him.
Thirty six blades.
With his Mental Force controlling all of them at once, he could create a localized storm of steel.
The next time he faced a Beast Tide, he would not even need to move.
He could simply stand there and turn the space around him into a forbidden zone.
"Exchange."
One selection remained.
